The 2021-22 NBA schedule has flipped to February 2022 as the action on the hardwood heats up before a run to the NBA playoffs. As the 30 NBA teams and the NBA players prepare for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game. As you look around the NBA from early on in the season to know a few new faces make the climb into the Top 10 NBA Teams while other teams fall outside of the Top 10.

One of those teams that made a climb inside the Top 10 teams in the NBA, is the Miami Heat who charged to the top of the Eastern Conference. While the Brooklyn Nets fell outside of the Top 10 to land in the honorable mention list and the Washington Wizards fell completely off of the board after losing eight of their last 10 contests.

With that said, here is our list of the Top 10 NBA Teams

Honorable Mention

Brooklyn Nets

Hanging on by just a small thread, the Brooklyn Nets land just outside of the Top 10 NBA teams as we enter the first full week of February. As the Nets continue to struggle due to injuries to stars such as Kevin Durant and James Harden, the team has failed to find consistency since Kyrie Irving joined the teams for their road contests.

The Nets have won just two of their last eight contests including losing eight straight games. Despite their struggles, the team is loaded with talent if their stars can get healthy to move back up the board in the Eastern Conference.

Trade Deadline Update: The Brooklyn Nets just traded away James Harden and Paul Millsap for Philadelphia 76er’s Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and two first round draft picks. This definitely gives the Brooklyn Nets a new look. James Harden forcing his way out breaks up the potential offensive force the team once had. The Nets are getting a playmaker and defender in Ben Simmons.

Denver Nuggets

After a promising start, the Denver Nuggets continue to hold onto one of the top six spots in the Western Conference and a potential playoff berth. The Nuggets have won 29 of their first 53 games this regular season but lack the talent and supporting cast for Nikola Jokic to move to the top of the Western Conference. The team has won six of their last 10 contests to land them just ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the top six in the Western Conference.

Top 10 NBA Teams

10. Dallas Mavericks

Using a solid stretch run of basketball that has pushed them to 5th in the Western Conference, the Dallas Mavericks moved inside of the Top 10 NBA teams rankings after winning six of their last 10 contests. The Mavericks are led by Luka Doncic who continues to put together MVP caliber numbers night in and night out while leading the team in points (26.0 ppg), rebounds (8.9 rpg) and assists (9.1 apg).

Meanwhile on the defensive side of the ball the Mavericks are as good as any team in the NBA allowing the third fewest amount of points per game (103.5 ppg) and the second fewest amount of offensive rebounds to their opponents per game.

Trade Deadline Update: The Dallas Mavericks traded Kristaps Porzingis and a second round pick to the Washington Wizards for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans. Dallas gets a ball handler in Dinwiddie and a 3 point marksman in Bertans. Dallas gets to unload an off injured player that didn’t mesh well with Luka Doncic.

9. Philadelphia 76ers

The success of the Philadelphia 76ers continues to revolve around their All-Star big man Joel Embiid who currently leads the NBA in scoring heading into February 7th, 2022. While the club has failed to resolve their issue with star point guard Ben Simmons and have failed to unload him, it leaves the club with one less talented player to fill up the stat sheet night in and night out.

However, the 76ers have been red hot winning seven of their last ten contests. On the year, the 76ers have been strong on the road winning 18 of their first 28 road contests while winning 14 of 25 at home.

Trade Deadline Update: The Philadelphia 76ers finally traded Ben Simmons. The 76ers traded Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and two first round draft picks for James Harden and Paul Millsap. This possibly creates the best duo in the league with Joel Embiid and James Harden.

8. Utah Jazz

As the Utah Jazz attempt to find a way to bounce back after winning just three of their last ten overall games, their current position in the Western Conference is up in the air as other teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets and even the Minnesota Timberwolves fight to move up in the 2021-22 NBA Standings.

However, the team had been without Donovan Mitchell since January 17th, 2022. Over that stretch the team posted just two wins while losing six contests with their star guard within the lineup. In his return the Jazz picked up a dominating 125-102 win over the Brooklyn Nets while Mitchell led all scorers with 27 points.

Trade Deadline Update: The Utah Jazz were a part of a three team trade with the Portland Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs that acquired them Juancho Hernangomez and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. The Jazz had to part from Joe Ingles who is currently out for the season.

7. Cleveland Cavaliers

One of the teams that many around the NBA weren’t expecting to compete this season was the Cleveland Cavaliers as they continue to put young pieces in place. However that has not been the case this season as the Cavaliers have won 33 of their first 54 games this season while positioning themselves in 4th place in the Eastern Conference.

The team has won seven of their last ten contests while pushing their record to 19-11 within the Conference. The team has seven different players averaging double digit points per game including Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen and rookie Evan Mobley.

Trade Deadline Update: The Cavs just added Caris LeVert and a 2022 second round pick. LeVert’s playmaking ability should be a tremendous help for the second half of the season and the playoffs. They had to unload Ricky Rubio, lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick.

6. Chicago Bulls

After holding strong atop the NBA Eastern Conference, the Chicago Bulls have dropped within the Top 10 NBA Teams rankings as they fall to second in the conference. The team has won just five of their last ten contests while struggling to win on the road.

The Bulls are just 14-13 away from Chicago and the struggles have dropped them in the standings. Much of their struggles have come on the defensive side of the floor as they have allowed the 12th most points per game in the NBA ON the offensive side of the floor the Bulls have to of the top scorers in the NBA in DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine while ranking 7th in the NBA in scoring to start the season.

5. Milwaukee Bucks

After winning the NBA Championship, many expected the Milwaukee Bucks to roll within the Eastern Conference this season. That hasn’t been the case to start the season as the Bucks are just 21-16 against teams in the Eastern Conference. Despite some of these early struggles, the Bucks are one of the hottest teams in the NBA winning seven of their last ten contests including three straight games heading into Monday February 7th, 2022.

As long as the Bucks have a healthy Giannis Antetokounmpo the team has the talent to climb back atop the conference while making another deep run within the NBA playoffs. Antetokounmpo currently leads the team averaging 28.9 points per game while also averaging 11.2 rebounds.

Trade Deadline Update: The Miluakee Bucks acquired Serge Ibaka via trade. This will improve their size and defensive presence after losing Brook Lopez due to injury. This was a part of a four team deal which they had to let go of Donte DiVincenzo.

4. Memphis Grizzlies

Like the Miami Heat, the Memphis Grizzlies are putting together a strong stretch run while moving up the standings. The Grizzlies have won two straight games as well as seven of their last ten games to move to 37-18 on the season.

The recent stretch of play has moved the team to 3rd in the Western Conference while having the third best record in all of the NBA. As a team the Grizzlies rank 3rd in the NBA in points per game while averaging 112.7 points a game.

The team has four different players averaging at least 16.7 points a game including star Ja Morant who leads the team with 26.4 points per game. The addition of Steven Adams has given the team a solid big man down low to compliment Morant.

3. Miami Heat

The Miami Heat are looking to get back to the NBA Finals and their talent level has been on full force of late as they have won six of their last ten contests while moving to the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Much of their success has come from their ability to slow down opposing teams while ranking 5th in the NBA in fewest points allowed per game (104.4 ppg).

Much like many of the other top teams, the Heat has a talented roster led by Jimmy Butler while also having a very deep roster. Currently six players are averaging at least 11 points a game while three other players are averaging at least eight points a game.

2. Golden State Warriors

The Wild Wild Western Conference continues to be a strong two team race led by the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns. While the Warriors sit at number two among the Top 10 teams in the NBA, the team is as good as any team in the NBA winning nine of their last 10 contests as well as eight straight contests.

Much of this success has come with the return of one of the key members of the splash brothers in Klay Thompson. Since his return the Warriors have won seven of the 11 contests with Thompson on the floor including five straight.

1. Phoenix Suns

As hot as the Golden State Warriors have been, it is hard to imagine the Phoenix Suns continuing to hold the top spot in the Western Conference and the top spot among the Top 10 NBA Teams as play gets rolling in February 2022.

The Suns have won nine of their last ten contests while pushing their overall record to 42-10 on the season. The Suns are as consistent as any team in the NBA winning 22 games at home and 20 games on the road while splitting their 10 losses evenly.

Six different active players are averaging at least 10 points while Devin Booker continues to lead the charge. With the deep roster of talented options, the Suns are looking to win their first NBA Championship.

Trade Deadline Update: In two separate trades the Phoenix Suns acquired Torey Craig and Aaron Holiday. Craig returns to a familiar team and Holiday adds depth to the backcourt. The Suns had to send away second year player Jalen Smith.
