The 2023-2024 Women’s College Basketball schedule rolls into the final weekend of February, as the hunt for March Madness continues to heat up. As teams around the landscape of college basketball continue to fight for a chance to compete in the Women’s National Basketball Championship, many of the top talented shooting guards around the country continue to build strong statistical seasons en route. One of those players putting together a terrific freshman season while being a key contributor for the USC Trojans is JuJu Watkins who lands atop the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Shooting Guards Rankings list.

Watkins, who was the top women’s basketball recruit of the 2023 freshman class has been as dominant as any player in the country over her first season. The freshman from Los Angeles, California is averaging 27.5 points per game while trailing only Caitlin Clark for the overall top scorer in Women’s College Basketball.

Heading into the final week of February the Trojans shooting guard currently leads a talented group of shooting guards while ranking among the leaders to take home the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award for the top shooting guard.

Joining Watkins among the top shooting guards list includes Chellia Watson of the Buffalo Bulls, Lucy Olsen of the Villanova Wildcats, Ta’Niya Latson of the Florida State Seminoles, and Dyaisha Fair of the Syracuse Orange.

Sara Scalia

School: Indiana Hoosiers

Just missing the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Shooting Guards Rankings list is the Indiana Hoosiers shooting guard Sara Scalia.

After transferring into the Indiana Hoosiers last season, Scalia has returned to her routine scoring form while averaging 16.3 points per game this season while shooting 43.5 percent from behind the three-point line and 44.1 percent from the field.

Scalia is another dynamic shooting guard who can do a little bit of everything while being a threat to shoot the ball from nearly any spot on the hardwood. The Hoosier’s senior shooting guard has averaged 3.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and one steal per game over the first 26 games of the season.

Saniya Rivers

School: NC State Wolfpack

A second talented shooting guard just missing the list of the top 10 shooting guards among the best women’s college basketball players is the NC State Wolfpack junior Saniya Rivers.

Rivers has been a key contributor all season while helping the Wolfpack to a 23-4 start to the season while ranking among the top teams within the ACC conference. In 24 games as the starter this season, the junior shooting guard has averaged a career high 12.1 points per game to go along with 6.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

Meanwhile her aggressive style of play on the defensive end of the floor has helped pace the Wolfpacks defensive play all season while posting 2.4 steals per game.

Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Shooting Guards

10. Charisma Osborne

School: UCLA Bruins

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Shooting Guards Rankings list is the UCLA Bruins Charisma Osborne. The fifth-year senior is capping off a five-year career with the Bruins finishing up as full-time starter since arriving with the Bruins.

The Moreno Valley, California native has been as solid as ever this season while also improving her all around ball handling skills while posting a career high 4.3 assists per game.

To go along with the assists, Osborne is averaging 14.9 points per game while also adding 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals on the defensive end of the floor.

9. Mikaylah Williams

School: LSU Tigers

The LSU Tigers are as loaded as any Women’s College Basketball team in the country with Mikaylah Williams being one of those weapons. Williams however is just starting her collegiate career while ranking among the best freshman in the country this season.

Through the first 27 games of her career Williams has posted 31.6 minutes per game while scoring 15 points per game for a Tigers team looking to repeat as National Champions.

Over that same stretch the six-foot shooting guard has averaged 15 points per game while also grabbing 4.8 rebounds and dishing out 3.1 assists. Despite being just one of many weapons on a loaded roster, Williams has capitalized on the opportunities she has had over this season.

8. Charlisse Leger-Walker

School: Washington State Cougars

Despite going down with a season ending ACL injury that required surgery, it is hard to look past Charlisse Leger-Walker as a top tier shooting guard when healthy.

Leger-Walker who has been the backbone of the Cougars roster has led the team to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances including their first in over 30 years.

Prior to going down, the Cougar’s talented shooting guard has turned in two triple doubles and three double doubles over 21 games played this season.

Overall Leger-Walker finished her 2023-2024 campaign averaging 13.2 points per game to go along with 6.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game.

7. JJ Quinerly

School: West Virginia Mountaineers

Another talented shooting guard that lands on the list of the best in college basketball is the West Virginia Mountaineer’s junior JJ Quinerly.

After taking over as the full-time starter last season, Quinerly has not disappointed while producing 14.5 points last season before taking a big step forward while producing 19.2 points per game this season.

The Mountaineer’s shooting guard is as talented of a shooter as any at the shooting guard position while connecting on 45.4 percent of her shots over her first 26 games of the season. In addition to scoring, the Mountaineers guard has been phenomenal on the defense end of the floor averaging 3.2 steals per game.

6. Abbey Hsu

School: Columbia Lions

Despite not playing at college recognized for their athletic skills, Abbey Hsu has emerged as a candidate to take home the Ann Meyers Drysdale award as the best shooting guard in the country.

The senior guard is off to the best season of her four-year career with the Columbia Lions capping off a four-year run as the starting shooting guard. Hsu is currently averaging 33.9 minutes per game over her first 23 games of the season while averaging 20.6 points per game to go along with 7.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

The talented shooting guard enters the last week of February shooting 44.5 percent from the field while connecting on 39.1 percent of her three point attempts this season.

5. Dyaisha Fair

School: Syracuse Orange

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Shooting Guards Rankings is the Syracuse Orange shooting guard Dyaisha Fair. Fair has been hot of late while leading the Orange to five wins over their last six games.

A stretch the senior shooting guard has turned in four games with at least 22 points including two 33 plus performances. Overall Fair who is rounding out a solid college career is averaging 21.8 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

The fifth-year senior will wrap up her career with four seasons averaging at least 21 points per game. In addition to ranking among the top scorers in the country, Fair has also been strong on the defensive end of the floor while averaging 2.3 steals per game.

4. Ta’Niya Latson

School: Florida State Seminoles

After a brilliant start to her career for the Florida State Seminoles as a freshman last season, Ta’Niya Latson has continued that success during her sophomore campaign.

The Miami, Florida native has been all over the floor for the Seminoles this season while leading the team in scoring while averaging 21.7 points per game.

As Latson continues to rank among the top scorers in Women’s College Basketball, the second-year standout continues to develop an all-around game at the guard position while increasing her season average to 4.3 assists per game to go along with 4.3 rebounds while also playing strong defense on the opposite end of the floor.

Only thing holding Latson back from a higher ranking is her down season behind the three-point line while shooting just 27.4 percent from three-point territory. Nonetheless the Seminoles guard ranks among the best shooting guards in the game.

3. Lucy Olsen

School: Villanova Wildcats

A name that has not seen any recognition all season long is the Villanova Wildcats shooting guard Lucy Olsen. Olsen, who is in her third season with the Wildcats, is off to the best start of her career while nearly averaging double the number of points she posted during her sophomore season.

After posting 12.4 last season, Olsen has averaged 23.5 points over the first 26 games of the season while helping the Wildcats to a 17-9 overall record while sitting in third place within the Big East conference.

Over her last three games Olsen has been as hot as any player in the country posting two games with at least 30 points pushing her season total to eight 30-point games including one 40-point game back in mid-November.

2. Chellia Watson

School: Buffalo Bulls

While all eyes have been on the talented freshman as the top shooting guard in the country, another talented shooting guard that has gone under the radar is the Buffalo Bulls senior Chellia Watson.

Watson, who transferred into the Bulls for her senior season, has been as dynamic as any shooter in the country, shooting 44 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from behind the three-point line while averaging 23.3 points per game.

Currently the Bulls shooting guard ranks fifth in the country in scoring over her first 24 games of the season. In addition to the scoring, Watson is currently averaging 5.6 rebounds per game to go along with 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals.

1. JuJu Watkins

School: USC Trojans

Headlining the list of the top shooting guards on the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Shooting Guards Rankings list is the USC Trojans freshman JuJu Watkins.

Watkins, who entered her freshman year ranked as the top freshman of the incoming class, has not disappointed over her first 23 games of her collegiate career.

Over the first 23 games of the 2023-2024 Women’s College Basketball season, Watkins is averaging 27.5 points per game to go along with 7.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

While her offensive skills have been astonishing to start the season, the overall performance has not stopped there as Watkins has been dynamic on the defensive end of the floor as well averaging 2.6 steals per game and 1.7 blocked shots.

The future looks bright for the Trojans with Watkins in line to emerge as the best player in the country over the next few seasons.
