Top 10 Best NHL Left Wingers of the 2023-2024 Season

As the 2023-2024 NHL regular season is coming to a close, it feels like the right time to look at some of the top players on the ice this season. Below we’ll take a look at the Top 10 Best NHL Left Wings of the season.

Matthew Tkachuk

Team: Calgary Flames

In his second year with the Florida Panthers, Matthew Tkachuk has spent less time in the penalty box and more time on the ice, However, it hasn’t converted to more goals or points.

Tkachuk has scored 25 goals this season, which is 15 less than last year’s tally. But his 84 points, which is top-20 overall in the league, still gives him an honorable mention on this list.

10. Kyle Connor

Team: Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets are having a great season and are strong contenders for the Presidents Trophy, and Kyle Connor has heavily contributed to this success.

Despite having a somewhat frustrating start to the season due to injury, Kyle Connor has been fantastic when healthy and on the ice. He’s scored 31 goals with 55 points and looked like he could have had a career year if he avoided the injury list.

9. Brad Marchand

Team: Boston Bruins

Brad Marchand possesses an innate ability to get under his opponents’ skin. He’s done it his whole career and often becomes his main talking point, and his on-ice talent is often overlooked.

This season, the 35-year-old surpassed 1000 career games and scored his 400th career goal. He’s scored 28 goals and 66 points in the Bruins hunt to win the Atlantic division.

Marchand may no longer be at the offensive level he once was, but he remains one of the best Left Wingers in the NHL.

8. Brady Tkachuk

Team: Ottawa Senators

Brady Tkachuk is a tenacious player, and about as old school as they come. He can score a goal, plaster an opponent into the boards, and drop the gloves all in one stint on the ice. And still, at just 24 years old, opposing teams have a long time left to endure him.

Tkachuk leads a bad Senators team in goals with 34 on the year, and trails only Tim Stűtzle on points with 68. He’s amassed those numbers while leading the team, and third in the entire league, in penalty minutes at 128.

Love him or hate him, Tkachuk is yet again proving he is a top-10 Left Winger in the NHL this season.

7. Jason Robertson

Team: Dallas Stars

The 2022-23 season was a career-best for Jason Robertson in almost every way. It was also criminally underrated. But it also greatly raised his expectations for the 2023-24 campaign. Expectations some say he has fallen short on.

However, Robertson has 27 goals and leads the Dallas Stars with 77 points in a season that will see them in the playoffs for a third consecutive season.

You could say being the leading points scorer for arguably the best team in the Western Conference should have him higher on the list. However, he hasn’t quite lived up to the bar he set himself last season.

6. Chris Kreider

Team: New York Rangers

Chris Kreider will likely never again see the highs that he reached two years ago when he took the NHL by storm and scored a career-high 52 goals. But he’s still had a solid season that should not be overlooked.

He might not tear down the wing and rip one past the goalie like others on this list, however, he somehow seems to have a way of finding the net.

As evident with his 38 goals and 70 points this season which has helped the New York Rangers to the top of the Metropolitan Division, and one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

5. Jesper Bratt

Team: New Jersey Devils

At #5 we have on the Top 10 Best NHL Left Wings list is Jesper Bratt. Bratt was slaughtered by fans for his performance in last year’s post-season. But he has countered that by having a career-best year.

He leads the New Jersey Devils with 79 points and scored 25 goals.

With Jack Hughes being out of the lineup for several games this season, Bratt was heavily relied upon and came through. Showing that the Devils got a steal in the sixth round back in 2016, and could help lead the resurgence of the team in the future.

4. Jake Guentzel

Team: Carolina Hurricanes

Jake Guentzel scored 22 goals and 52 points for the Pittsburgh Penguins in their hunt for the playoffs. But the Penguins decided to opt for a rebuild and shipped Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes in the final year of his contract.

Guentzel has scored a further 5 goals and 21 points in just 14 games for the Hurricanes.

Regardless of what happens in the playoffs, Guentzel will be one of the hottest free agents of the offseason.

3. Kirill Kaprizov

Team: Minnesota Wild

The Kirill Kaprizov criticism at the start of the year only highlighted how high his expectations are.

But the Russian came alive in the latter part of the year and will likely close out his season with over 40 goals and close to 100 points. He has been the sole bright spot in a miserable Minnesota Wild season.

The Wild needed more from Kaprizov at the start of the season to have any chance of success. But his late-season resurgence in a dire team shows how elite Kaprizov is, and how he is one of the top Left Wingers in the NHL.

2. Filip Forsberg

Team: Nashville Predators

Filip Forsberg has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career, which has led to him being continually overlooked.

But now, at 29 years of age, Forsberg is having the best year of his career. He leads the Predators in goals and points, with 43 and 89 respectively, which are both career bests for the Swede.

You can’t help but ponder the numbers Forsberg could’ve produced had he stayed healthy through the years. But he has certainly proved that when on the ice, he’s not only one of the best Left Wingers in the NHL but one of the best forwards in the league.

1. Artemi Panarin

Team: New York Rangers

Artemi Panarin received a ton of backlash from New York Rangers fans for his performance in last year’s postseason. But he has more than made up for it this season.

He leads the New York Rangers in goals with 46 and points with 115, both career highs for Panarin, and he leads all left-wingers in the NHL.

Panarin has always been one of the National Hockey League’s most exciting players to watch, But this season he has really put his stamp on the ice and left no doubt that he deserves to be top of the Top 10 NHL Left Wings Rankings.
