Who is the best Featherweight Boxer?

Nick Ball wins a close one to Raymond Ford while Luis Alberto Lopez continues his dominance at 126 lbs after dominating Reiya Abe to remain the #1 Featherweight Boxer of the World. Also Rafael Espinoza dominates after his uset win. So here is a look at the Top Featherweight Boxers List. Before we get to it here are some honorable mentions.

What is a Featherweight Boxer?

Featherweight is a weight class of boxers that consists of boxers weighing at maximum 126 pounds (57 kg).

Top 10 Featherweight Boxing Rankings

10. Ruben Villa

Starting off our rankings, we have Ruben Villa, an American Professional boxer with a record of 22 wins and only 1 loss. 

He is the former WBO international featherweight champion and held the WBC youth featherweight title as well. 

In his most recent fight, he defeated Cristian Cruz Chacon winning by unanimous decision, and he is scheduled to face Segawa Sulaiman in his next fight on July 13th.

9. Josh Warrington

Josh Warrington is a professional boxer from the UK and he has a record of 31 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw. 

Warrington is a former two-time IBF featherweight world champion. He is also the former WBC international featherweight champion, and the former European, British, and Commonwealth Featherweight champion. 

Warrington faced Luis Lopez Vargas and lost his IBF title. He took a hard shot in the first round, which made his nose bleed, and couldn’t do much in the following rounds. Though he had some success in the late rounds, he couldn’t do enough to convince the judges. 

In his most recent fight he faced Leigh Wood for the WBA Featherweight Title. Warrington came out strong in the third and applied pressure to the point where Wood was cut over right eye. In the seventh round Wood finished Warrington.

As of right now, there is no announcement on his next fight.

8. Raymond Ford

At number 8 we have Raymond Ford, a professional boxer from the USA with a record of 15 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw. 

Ford is the current WBA Featherweight world champion and has previously held the IBF North American featherweight title as well. He fought Otabek Kholmatov with the Vacant WBA featherweight title on the line. He won the fight via TKO in the 12th round. 

More recently, Ford faced Nick Ball and lost via split decision in a close fight. There is no announcement on his next fight but Ford is looking to move up to Super Featherweight.

7. Robeisy Ramírez

Robeisy Ramírez is a professional boxer from Cuba and he has a record of 13 wins and 2 losses. 

Ramirez is the former WBO featherweight world champion and previously held the WBO Global title as well. As an amateur, he won Olympic Gold twice in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.

In his most recent fight, Ramírez lost the title to Rafael Espinoza via Majority Decision after a competitive performance. His next fight is against Brandon Leon Benitez on June 29th.

6. Rafael Espinoza

Rafael Espinoza is a Mexican professional boxer with an undefeated professional record of 24-0.

Espinoza is the current WBO Featherweight world champion, and he won the title after a win over Robeisy Ramírez. The fight was quite competitive, with both fighters getting knocked down. 

Espinoza stole the fight with a remarkable final round, landing a barrage of punches, and knocking Ramírez down, making his way up to number six in our Featherweight rankings.

Rafael Espinoza recently faced Sergio Chirino Sanchez and won by Technical Knockout in the fourth round where he dominated throughout. No announcement on his next fight.

5. Nick Ball

Title(s):

  • WBA Featherweight World Champion

Nick Ball is a British Professional boxer with an undefeated record of 20 wins and 1 draw. 

Ball is the former WBC Silver featherweight champion. He defended the title 4 times before getting a chance to fight for the world title last weekend. 

He faced Rey Vargas with the WBC Featherweight world title on the line. Though he didn’t have the best start, he came back with two knockdowns in the late rounds. Still, the judges didn’t believe he had done enough to win, and the fight was scored a split draw.

Recently, Nick Ball faced Raymond Ford for the WBA Featherweight World Title. In a close exciting fight that could have gone either way, Nick Ball won by split decision. In a close fight going into the 12th, Ball was able to survive getting rocked in the 12th round.

4. Brandon Figueroa

Title(s):

  • WBC Featherweight Interim Champion

Brandon Figueroa is an American Professional boxer with a record of 24 wins 1 loss, and 1 draw. 

He is the former unified WBA and WBC super bantamweight world champion, and he also fought for the WBO title. He is now the WBC Featherweight Interim Champion after his last fight against Mark Magsayo.

Figueroa fought Magsayo for the Interim WBC Featherweight title. He won via unanimous decision with Magsayo being deducted a point in each the eighth and eleventh round. 

Recently, Figueroa faced Jessie Magdaleno where Figueroa was able to knock out Magdaleno with a vicious body shot right at the bell of the 9th round. There is no announcement on his next fight.

3. Rey Vargas

Title(s):

  • WBC Featherweight World Champion

Rey Vargas. Is a professional boxer from Mexico, and he has an undefeated professional record of 36 wins and 1 loss. 

Vargas is the current WBC Featherweight world champion. He previously held the WBC Super Bantamweight title as well and defended it 5 times before moving up to featherweight. 

He won the Featherweight title after defeating Mark Magsayo via Split decision. Vargas had good momentum between rounds 3 and 8, and he won the championship rounds as well. He got dropped in the 9th but had done enough to win the decision.

In his most recent fight, he fought Nick Ball with the WBC featherweight title on the line. Vargas had a solid start and took the early rounds, however, Ball came back with two knockdowns in the later rounds. In the end, the fight was scored as a split draw, and Vargas retained his title.

2. Leigh Wood

Leigh Wood is a British professional boxer, and he has a record of 28 wins and 3 losses.

Wood is a two-time WBA Featherweight world champion and currently holds the title as well. Wood also held the British and Commonwealth featherweight titles

He fought Mauricio Lara in a rematch after he had lost the WBA title to Lara in their previous fight. Lara missed weight, and the title was only on the line for Wood, who seized the opportunity and won the fight via a decisive Unanimous Decision.

Wood fought Josh Warrington with the WBA Featherweight title on the line. After a great start Warrington came back in the third round and was able to cut and bruise Wood around right eye.

Warrington applied the pressure but too much resulted in a point deduction due to shots in the back of the head. Wood hit Warrington with a right hook soon after that stunned him. The referee stopped the fight in the 7th round.

No announcement on his next fight but Leigh Wood looks to move up to the Super Featherweight Division after vacating the WBA Featherweight World Title.

1. Luis Alberto Lopez Vargas

Title(s):

  • IBF Featherweight World Champion

Now at #1 in the Best Featherweight Boxers Rankings list is Luis Lopez Vargas. Lopez is a professional boxer from Mexico, and he has a record of 30 wins and 2 losses.

Vargas is the current IBF featherweight world champion and has previously also held the WBO International featherweight title. 

Vargas fought Josh Warrington for the IBF title and won the fight via Majority Decision. He had a good start and hurt Warrington in the first round. Warrington did come back in the later rounds, but couldn’t do enough.

Vargas went up against Joet Gonzalez. The fight was very competitive, with Lopez taking control in the early rounds, and Gonzalez bringing an onslaught of punches in the later rounds. Still, Lopez was able to resist and retain his title, winning via Unanimous Decision.

Recently, Luis Alberto Lopez faced Reiya Abe and won by technical knockout. This was a fight where Lopez dominated Abe for 8 rounds before the referee stepped in. There is no announcement on his next fight.
