Luis Concepción - WBA Interim Champion

from Panama is an excellent boxer in the flyweight division, with a record of 39-8. Though he doesn’t make it into the top ten, he definitely deserves an honorable mention. 

Sho Kimura

is another impressive boxer from Japan, and he is also the former WBO flyweight champion, having held the title from 2017 to 2018.

 

Top 10 Flyweight Rankings

10. Angel Acosta

Starting off the list at number 10 is Angel Acosta. He has a record of 22 wins and 2 losses, and he is also the former WBO light flyweight champion. 

In his most recent bout, he faced off against Gilberto Mendoza and scored a unanimous decision victory. His next fight is scheduled for 10th September, against the current WBO flyweight champion Junto Nakatani. 

 

9. Muhammad Waseem

Muhammad Waseem is a very talented professional boxer from Pakistan, and he has a record of 11-1. He is the former WBC silver flyweight champion, and he also challenged Moruti Mthalane for the IBF flyweight title, however, Waseem lost via UD. 

His most recent fight was late last year, against Jenny Boy Boca, Waseem won the fight via TKO in the 8th round. 

 

8. Jay Harris

Coming in at number 8, Jay Harris is a Welsh professional boxer, with a record of 18-2. 

Though Harris hasn’t won a world title yet, he has held multiple regional titles. He has held the Commonwealth flyweight title since 2017 and also won the European flyweight title in 2019.

Early last year, Harris got a crack at a world championship, when he faced off against Julio Cesar Martinez for the WBC flyweight title. However, Harris lost the fight via UD. 

 

7. Cristofer Rosales

At number 7, we have Cristofer Rosales from Nicaragua. With a record of 31-5, Rosales is quite an experienced fighter and the former WBC flyweight champion. 

In his most recent fight, Rosales fought Samuel Gutiérrez and won via UD. This fight happened in September of last year, and Rosales has been inactive since. Rosales’s next fight has not been announced yet. 

 

6. McWilliams Arroyo - WBC Interim Champion

Arroyo is a Puerto Rican professional boxer with a record of 21 wins and 4 losses. He is also the current  WBC interim flyweight champion and has held this title since February 2021. 

Arroyo has previously challenged for the world title a couple of times but couldn't win. He challenged Amnat Ruenroeng for the IBF flyweight title in 2014, and Román González for the WBC and Ring magazine flyweight titles in 2016.

Arroyo won his most recent fight, and his next fight has not been announced yet.

5. Moruti Mthalane

Our number 5 pick, Moruti Mthalane is a professional boxer from South Africa, and he has a record of 39 wins and 3 losses. 

Mthalane is a  former two-time IBF flyweight champion, having held the title from 2009 to 2014 and 2018 to April 2021. From 2014 to 2017, Mthalane also held the IBO flyweight title. 

He lost the IBF title to Sunny Edwards in his most recent fight via UD, and his next fight has not been announced yet. 

 

4. Junto Nakatani - WBO Champion

At number 4, Nakatani is a Japanese professional boxer, with an undefeated record of 21-0. Nakatani is also the current WBO flyweight champion. 

He won the vacant WBO title in his most recent fight against Giemel Magramo via TKO in the 8th round, and for his first title defense, he will be facing Ángel Acosta. 

 

3. Artem Dalakian - WBA Champion

At number 3, we have Artem Dalakian,  a Ukrainian professional boxer of Armenian descent, with a record of 20-0. The undefeated fighter is the current WBA flyweight champion, having held the title since 2018. 

He is currently ranked the fourth-best active flyweight in the world by The Ring, and the TBRB, however, he makes it at number 3 on our list. 

Dalakian’s last fight was against Josber Perez, and his next fight has not been announced yet. 

 

2. Sunny Edwards - IBF Champion

Sunny Edwards is a British professional boxer with an undefeated boxing record of 16-0. Edwards is also the current IBF flyweight champion, and he won the title earlier this year after defeating Moruti Mthalane. 

Sunny Edwards is quite popular because he is the younger brother of the former WBC flyweight champion Charlie Edwards.

 

1. Julio Cesar Martinez - WBC Champion

Julio Cesar Martinez is a Mexican professional boxer with a record of 18 wins, 1 loss, and 1 no-contest. He is also the current WBC Flyweight champion, having held the title since 2019. Throughout his reign as the champion, he has defended the title three times. 

Martinez is currently ranked as the number 1 flyweight boxer in the world by BoxRec, The Ring, and the TBRB, and he also makes it at the top of our list. 

Last weekend, Martinez made his third title defense against Joel Cordova. Martinez came out stalking and after a mostly one-sided fight, he knocked out Cordova in the first minute of the sith round to retain his title.
