Honorable Mentions

Light Heavyweight is a very talent stacked division, and ranking the top ten isn’t easy, therefore, here are the honorable mentions before we move on to the actual list.

Fanlong Meng is an undefeated fighter from China, with 16 wins and no losses, he is also the no.1 contender for the IBF light heavyweight championship.

Joshua Buatsi is also an exciting fighter with an undefeated record of 14-0. He recently defeated Daniel Dos Santos showing amazing power knocking him down early and then finished it in the 4th with an amazing knockout with his right.

Umar Salamov is an incredible fighter, and also the former IBO light-heavyweight champion.

 

Top 10 Light Heavyweights

10. Lyndon Arthur

Starting off the list at number 10 is Lyndon Arthur. With an undefeated professional record of 18-0, the English professional boxer has been the Commonwealth light heavyweight champion since 2009.

He has defended this title three times, and in his last fight against Anthony Yarde, in December of last year, Arthur won by a split decision and also became the WBO Inter-Continental Light-Heavyweight Champion

Though Arthur hasn’t had a taste of a world championship yet, he is showing a lot of promise. His next fight is against undefeated fighter Davide Faraci in July.

 

9. Badou Jack

With 29 professional fights, and 37 years of age, the Swedish boxer, Badou Jack is one of the more experienced fighters in the light heavyweight division. He has held world titles in two different weight classes.

He defeated Anthony Dirrell to win the WBC super-middleweight title in 2015. He defended this title three times before moving to light heavyweight. In 2017, he also defeated Nathan Cleverly to become the  WBA light-heavyweight champion.

His next fight was against Adonis Stevenson for the WBC light heavyweight title, however, the fight was ruled a draw, and Stevenson retained his title.

Jack was scheduled to fight Jean Pascal but tested positive for a banned substance. He instead fought undefeated Dervin Colina on the Floyd Mayweather – Logan Paul undercard. Jack was able to stop Colina with body shots which knocked him down 3 times to end the fight.

8. Marcus Browne

At number 8, Marcus Browne holds the spot, with an impressive record of 23 wins and only 1 loss.

Browne won the vacant WBC USNBC light heavyweight title back in 2016, a few years later, in January of 2019, he defeated Badou Jack to become the  WBA interim and WBC Silver light heavyweight champion, however, he wasn’t able to defend these titles and lost the, to Jean Pascal in August 2019.

Browne has remained inactive since then, and there aren’t any announcements about him fighting any time soon.

 

7. Eleider Alvarez

Eleider “Storm” Alvarez, is an incredible Colombian professional boxer, who has had a lot of success in the sport. He has a record of 25 wins and two losses and has held multiple titles over his career.

He won the WBO–NABO light-heavyweight title in 2011 and defended it three times. In 2014, he won the WBC Silver light-heavyweight title and went on to defend it four times. The biggest fight of Storm’s career came in 2018 against Sergey Kovalev, when he won WBO and IBF light-heavyweight titles.

However, in an immediate rematch against Kovalev, he lost the title. Alvarez’s last fight was against Joe Smith Jr., which he lost, and his next fight is still to be announced.

 

6. Jean Pascal – WBA Regular Champion

At number 6, we have Jean Pascal. The  Haitian Canadian professional boxer is one of the most experienced  fighters in the light heavyweight rankings right now. He has an extensive record of 35 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw.

In 2009, he won the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super-middleweight title. In his next fight, he moved to light heavyweight, and fought Adrian Diaconu. Pascal won the fight and won the WBC light-heavyweight title. He continued to defend his title twice, before fighting Chad Dawson in 2010; A fight that Pascal won, and with it won the  IBO, vacant The Ring and lineal light-heavyweight titles as well.

His next fight was against Bernard Hopkins, which was ruled a majority decision draw, however in the immediate rematch, Pascal lost his titles to Hopkins.

In 2019, Pascal won the WBA interim and WBC Silver light-heavyweight titles, and defended them against Badou Jack in his last fight.

Pascal was scheduled to face Badou Jack in a rematch on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather – Logan Paul but was cancelled due to Pascal testing positive for a banned substance.

5. Gilberto Ramirez

From Mexico, our number five pick, Gilberto Ramírez Sánchez has an extensive undefeated record. He has 41 victories and no defeats, 27 of which have come by way of knockout.

However, he has spent most of his career at super middle-weight, with only his last two fights being at light heavyweight. This is why he is low in the rankings, despite having an incredible record.

He won the WBO super middleweight title in 2016, and defended it 5 times before moving to light heavyweight. His most recent fight was against Alfonso López, in which he won the NABF light-heavyweight title

Ramirez’s next fight is against 22-3 Sullivan Barrera on July 9th.

 

4. Sergey Kovalev

Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev is our number Four pick, and the russian boxer has a very impressive record of 34-4-1. He is a very accomplished fighter, and got his first taste of a world championship in 2013. He defeated Nathan Cleverly to become the WBO light heavyweight champion of the world and defended his title for his next three fights.

Then, in November 2014, he fought against Bernard Hopkins, and added two more titles to his name. Kovalev continued to defend the WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO light heavyweight titles for four fights before he lost them to Andre Ward in 2016.

The next year, Kovalev fought Vyacheslav Shabranskyy, and won the vacant WBO, IBA, and inaugural EBP (Super) light heavyweight titles. His last fight was against Canelo Alveraz, which he lost along with the WBO light heavyweight title.

 

3. Joe Smith Jr. – WBO Champion

Joe “The Irish bomber” Smith is our number 3 pick for this list, and he has a record of 27 wins and only 3 losses, and since last weekend, is the current WBO light heavyweight champion of the world.

In 2016, Smith fought against Andrzej Fonfara and won the WBC International light heavyweight title, which he defended once before losing it to Sullivan Barrera in 2017. In his last fight, he defeated Maxim Vlasov and became the WBO light heavyweight title

Joe Smith also holds the WBO–NABO light heavyweight title, and his next fight could be against Artur Beterbiev

 

2. Dmitry Bivol – WBA Super Champion

Our number two Pick is another Russian. Dmitry Yuryevich Bivol is an undefeated boxer, with a record of 18-0. He is also the current WBA super world light heavyweight champion of the world.

In 2016, he won the Won WBA interim light-heavyweight title of the world. He defended it twice before being promoted to the main title. Bivol continued to defend the WBA light-heavyweight championship five times, and defeated some big names including Joe Smith and Jean Pascal

Bivol just recently defeated Craig Richards by unanimous decision. Bivol was able to dominate most of the fight and hold off a late surge from Richards. 

 

1. Artur Beterbiev – WBC, IBF Champion

At the top of the list, we have the current unified WBC and IBF light heavyweight champion of the world. Artur Beterbiev is undefeated with 16 wins and no losses.

He won the vacant IBF light-heavyweight title in 2017 against  Enrico Kölling. He continued to defend it twice, before defeating Oleksandr Gvozdyk WBC light-heavyweight title and adding the to his collection as well.

In his last fight, Beterbiev defended both his titles against Adam Deines, and won by a 10th round TKO. His next looks to be against Joe Smith Jr.
