Top 10 Lightweight Boxers – June 2021 Rankings

Devin Haney remains undefeated after defeating Jorge Linares. Where do you rank him amongst the other Lightweights?

Honorable Mentions

Masayoshi Nakatani is a Japanese professional boxer with a professional record of 19-1. He is also the current WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title, and he will be fighting Lomachnko for his next fight.

Isaac Cruz Gonzales is another incredible fighter who deserves an honorable mention. He has a record of 21-1-1.

 

Top 10 Lightweights

10. George Kambosos Jr.

Starting off the list, we have George Kambosos Jr. The Australian boxer has an undefeated professional record of 19-0, and he is the only boxer on this list who hasn’t challenged for a world title.

He has won multiple regional titles, and most notably, he defeated former IBF Featherweight champion, Lee Selby, in his last fight. Kambosos is going to be the next challenger for the unified lightweight champion Tiofimo Lopez. The fight will happen on 19th June at the LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida.

 

9. Luke Campbell

Luke Campbell is a very talented fighter with a record of 20-4 with 16 KOs. The British southpaw has a solid list of accomplishments over his career. He won the WBC Silver Lightweight title in 2016 after defeating Derry Mathews, and in 2015, he also won the WBC International Lightweight title.

Campbell has challenged for the world title twice, but came short, in his most recent fight, which was for the WBC interim lightweight title, he suffered his first knockout defeat. His next fight has not been announced yet.

 

8. Javier Fortuna

Javier Fortuna is the former WBA super featherweight champion, and he has a record of 36-2-1 with 25 knockouts. He won the belt in 2015, after defeating Bryan Vasquez, and defended it once before losing it to Jason Sosa.

Fortuna then moved up to the lightweight and got a title shot after going on a 4 fight win streak. He fought Robert Easter Jr. for the IBF Lightweight title, however came short losing by split decision.

The Dominican boxer defeated Antonio Lozada Jr. in his last fight, and he will be facing Joseph Diaz on 9th July for the vacant WBC interim lightweight title

 

7. Jorge Linares

With an extensive record of 47-5, Jorge Linares is one of the most experienced boxers on this list. He has won world titles in three weight divisions including lightweight. In 2014 he defeated Francisco Javier Prieto to win the vacant WBC Lightweight title.

After defending the title twice, he also won the WBA Lightweight championship after beating Anthony Crolla, which he defended three times.

Linares lost the belt the Lomachenko in his next fight. Liners fought Devin Haney last weekend in a close fight. Though Haney controlled the action for most of the fight, Linares landed a powerful right-left combination at the end of the tenth round and dropped Haney. Still, he was able to survive the last two rounds by clinching, and won the fight, handing Lineres his first defeat by decision.

 

6. Richard Commey

The next fighter on our list, Richard Commey is from Ghana, and he has a record of 30-3. His first attempt at a world title at lightweight failed in 2016, however after about 3 years, he won the IBF Lightweight title defeating Isa Chaniev.

After one title defense, he lost the belt to Teofimo Lopez, who is the current champion.

Commey won his most recent fight, which happened in February against Jackson Marinez and his next fight has not been announced yet.

5. Devin Haney, WBC Lightweight Champion

Devin Haney is currently the youngest world champion in the world, and he has an undefeated record of 25-0 with 15 KOs. Haney is also the current WBC Lightweight champion.

Haney defeated Zaur Abdullaev in 2019 to become the Interim WBC lightweight champion and was later promoted to the world champion when WBC made the then champion Lomachenko their franchise champion.

He has defended the title three times and in his fight last weekend, against Jorge Linares, in what was seen by many as the toughest test of his career by far. Haney managed to maintain control for most of the fight, however, in the tenth, things took a bad turn, when he was badly hurt by an incredible combination from Linares. However, Haney was able to weather the storm, and survive the next two rounds to win a unanimous decision.

 

4. Ryan Garcia

Garcia is one of the most popular stars in boxing today, however, don’t let that take your focus off the fact that he is an incredible boxer. With an undefeated record of 21-0, with 18 KOs, Garcia has been tearing his way through the lightweight division.

Most notably, he has defeated fighters like Romero Duno and Francisco Fonseca, Jayson Velez, and most recently, Luke Campbell. In his last fight, he also won the vacant WBC interim lightweight title.

Garci was scheduled to fight Javier Fortuna, however, he had to pull out because of undisclosed reasons. Therefore, the interim title was vacated and Fortuna will fight Joseph Diaz for it.

 

3. Gervonta Davis, WBA Lightweight Champion

Gervonta Davis is a reigning two-division champion, which is quite rare. With an undefeated record of 23-0, with 22 KOs “Tank” is currently the WBA Super World Super Featherweight and the WBA Regular Lightweight champion

He won his last fight against Léo Santa Cruz and won the WBA Super World Super Featherweight title, which he will be defending against Mario Barrios on June 26th.

 

2. Vasyl Lomachenko

Vasyl Lomachenko is one of the most artistic fighters in boxing today. His incredible footwork, speed, and accuracy make him a challenge for any fighter in and around his weight division. Loma is the former unified WBA (Super), WBO, WBC, and The Ring lightweight champion.

However, last year the former P4P king had to deal with his first convincing loss against Teofimo Lopez Jr. Though Lomachenko rallied in the later rounds, he couldn’t do enough to put Lopez away and score a victory.

Lomachenko will face Masayoshi Nakatani in his next fight on 26th June.

 

1. Teofimo Lopez, WBA – WBC – IBF – WBO – The Ring Lightweight Champion

Teófimo López jr is undoubted, 2020’s fighter of the year. At just 23, He has an undefeated record of 16-0 and he has managed to become the unified lightweight champion of the world, after defeating the P4P king Vasiliy Lomachenko.

As the unified lightweight champion of the world, Lopez is in a position to have some incredible matchups in his division. And he will be fighting George Kambosos Jr. on 19th June.
