Ranking the best Super Featherweight/Junior Lightweight boxers after Shakur Stevenson’s dominant TKO victory over Jamel Herring to win the WBO Junior Lightweight Title. Also, Kenichi Ogawa winning the vacant IBF Super Featherweight Title

Honorable Mention

Rene Alvarado 

Rene Alvarado is an excellent fighter from Nicaragua. He has a record of 32-9, and he also won the WBA (Regular) super featherweight title, which he lost to Roger Gutiérrez.

Azinga Fuzile

At number nine, we have a professional boxer from South Africa. Azinga Fuzile has a record of 15-2.

He is the former IBF Inter-Continental super featherweight champion, and in his fight before fighting for the vacant IBF Junior Lightweight Championship, he defeated Martin Joseph Ward via TKO in the seventh round. 

In his most recent fight, he took on Kenichi Ogawa for the vacant IBF Junior Lightweight title. Fuzile looked good early but accidental headbutts did him no favors. He was close He lost via unanimous decision.

Top 10 Super Featherweights

  1. Robson Conceição

Robson Conceição is a professional boxer from brazil with a record of 16 wins and 1 loss. As an amateur, Conceição became the first Brazilian boxer to win a gold medal in the Olympics. 

After turning pro, he has had an impressive career, and he even challenged Óscar Valdez for the WBC Super featherweight title in his most recent fight, however, he could not win. The fight was exciting, close, and controversial. What made the fight controversial was Valdez testing positive for a banned substance.

As of now, there is no official announcement about his next fight.

 

  1. O’Shanique Foster

At number 8, we have O’Shanique Foster from the USA, with a boxing record of 18 wins and 2 losses. 

He holds the WBC Silver Super Featherweight Title, and in his most recent fight, he defended it against seasoned veteran Miguel Roman. 

There is no announcement about his next fight yet.

  1. Kenichi Ogawa

Title(s): IBF Super Featherweight Champion

Kenichi Ogawa is a really talented fighter from Japan and has a record of 29-1-1-1, he also held the Japanese Super-Featherweight title from 2014 to 2017, defending it 5 times.

In his most recent fight, Ogawa took on Azinga Fuzile for the vacant IBF World Junior Lightweight Championship. Ogawa dropped Fuzile multiple times in the fifth and 12th round. Ogawa won via unanimous decision making him the new IBF Junior Lightweight Champion.

 

 

 

  1. Chris Colbert

Chris Colbert, the Brooklyn native is a young and exciting fighter with an undefeated professional record of 16-0. 

In January of 2020, Colbert fought Jezreel Corrales for the Interim WBA super Featherweight title, and won via a UD, Colbert also defended his title against Jaime Arboleda and in his most recent fight, against Tugstsogt Nyambayar. 

As far as Colbert’s next fight is concerned, it hasn’t been announced yet

  1. Miguel Berchelt

Berchelt is one of the most experienced fighters in the division. With an extensive record of 38 wins, 2 losses, and 1 no-contest, he has fought the best of the best. 

In March 2016, Berchelt knocked out  George Jupp to win the WBO interim super featherweight title. After defending the interim title once, Berchelt got a fight against Francisco Vargas for the WBC super featherweight title. Berchelt won the title, via KO, and went on to defend it seven times. 

However, in his last fight, Berchelt lost the title to Óscar Valdez. Berchelt’s next fight isn’t announced yet, but it will be very important for his career.

  1. Jamel Herring

With an impressive record of 23 wins and 3 losses, Jamel Herring is one of the best boxers at super featherweight, being ranked number 1 by the Ring. 

He is the former WBO junior lightweight champion.  He won the title after Masayuki Ito in 2019 and defended it three times, losing the title to Shakur Stevenson last weekend. The fight was mostly one-sided, and in the tenth round, the referee stopped the fight, declaring Stevenson the winner by TKO.

  1. Shavkat Dzhon Rakhimov 

The Tajikistani professional boxer, Shavkatdzhon “Shere Khan” Rakhimov makes it to number 6 on our list. The incredible southpaw has an undefeated record of 15 wins and no losses with 1 draw. 

Rakhimiv has won multiple titles over the course of his career; however, in 2017, he got his first taste of a world championship. 

He defeated Emanuel Lopez to win the vacant IBO super-featherweight title and defended it three times, Rakhimiv’s last fight was against Joseph Diaz for the vacant IBF super-featherweight title; however, the fight ended in a Draw.

As of now, there is no announcement regarding Rakhimova’s next fight. 

  1. Roger Gutierrez

Title(s): WBA Super Featherweight Champion

Roger “the Kid” Gutierrez is a young Venezuelan boxer who has an impressive record of 26 wins and only 3 losses with 1 draw. Moreover, 20 of his victories came by way of knockout. 

Gutierrez has had an incredible career up till now, and he is still very young at 25 years of age. After losing to René Alvarado in his early career, Gutierrez faced him again for the Won WBA (Regular) super featherweight title. 

His most recent fight was the trilogy bout against René Alvarado which he won again, defending his title for the first time.

  1. Shakur Stevenson

Title(s): WBO Super Featherweight Champion 

Shakur Stevenson is another exhilarating young boxer from the USA. With an undefeated record of 17-0, the 23-year-old young star has a very bright future in the sport. 

In his brief professional career, Stevenson has achieved a lot. He won the vacant IBF Inter-Continental and WBC Continental Americas featherweight titles, and in 2019, he won his first world title at featherweight. 

Now, competing in the Super featherweight division. Stevenson won the WBO junior lightweight title last weekend, after defeating Jamel Herring. Stevenson was ahead on the scorecards from the beginning of the fight, and to remove any doubt, he won the fight via TKO in the 10th round. 

His next fight has not been announced yet.

  1. Oscar Valdez

Title(s): WBC Super Featherweight Champion

At the top of the list, sits the current WBC super featherweight champion, Oscar Valdez. He started his professional career in 2012 and has an undefeated record with 30 victories. 

In 2016, he won the vacant WBO featherweight title and went on to defend it six times. On the 20th of February, Valdez defeated Miguel Berchelt and became the WBC super featherweight champion as well. In his most recent fight, he defended his title against Robson Conceição and won via a unanimous decision. 

As far as Valdez’s next fight is concerned, there hasn’t been any official announcement as of yet.
