Updating the Welterweight boxing rankings after Radzhab Butaev successfully defeats Jamal James for the WBA Regular Welterweight Title. Also, Terence Crawford defeating Shawn Porter cementing his status as the best Welterweight in the world

Honorable Mention

Mikey Garcia

Mikey Garcia is a very talented boxer, with a record of 40-2. Over the course of his career, he has won multiple world championships in four different weight classes. 

He held the lineal junior welterweight title from 2018 to 2020, the WBO junior lightweight title from 2013 to 2014, the WBO and Ring magazine featherweight titles in 2013, the WBC and IBF lightweight titles between 2017 and 2019. 

Competing at welterweight, Garcia also challenged Errol Spence Jr. for the IBF title in 2019, but could not win. 

He lost his last fight against Sandor Martin via MD, and his next fight has not been announced yet. 

Jamal James

Jamal James is an American boxer with a record of 27-1. He is the former WBA (Regular) welterweight champion. He lost the title last weekend to Radzhab Butaev. Though he is not in the rankings, he deserves an honorable mention.

Top 10 Welterweights

  1. Eimantas Stanionis

At number 9, we have a new entry to the Welterweight Fan Rankings, Eimantas Stanionis from Lithuania is an undefeated boxer, with a record of 13 wins and 1 no-contest. 

As an amateur, he became the European champion in 2015, and he has defeated some big names as a professional as well. His last fight was against Luis Collazo, however, it was ruled as a no-contest after an accidental head clash. 

  1. Kudratillo Abdukakhorov

Kudratillo Abdukakhorov is an Uzbek professional boxer with an undefeated professional record of 18-0. 

He has 10 career knockouts and Most notably, “The Punisher” has held the WBC Silver welterweight title from 2017 to 2018

His most recent fight was against Javier Flores, in March of this year. Abdukakhorov won that fight via corner retirement in the 8th round. As of now, there is no official announcement about his next fight. 

  1. Vergil Ortiz Jr

Vergil Ortiz Jr. is an incredible American boxer of Mexican descent with an undefeated record of 18-0, with 18 knockouts. As an amateur, he also won the 2013 Junior Olympics.

Though he has not won any world title, he defeated Maurice Hooker and won the WBO International welterweight title. Which he has also defended once.

His last fight was against Egidijus Kavaliauskas in August which he won by TKO. His next fight has not been announced yet but looks to be aiming for a January return.

 

 

 

  1. Jaron Ennis

Jaron Ennis is an American boxer, with an undefeated professional record of 28 wins, no losses, and 1 no contest. 

In December of last year, Jaron Ennis fought Chris van Heerden for the vacant IBO welterweight title. However, the fight was ruled as a no-contest after van Heerden suffered a cut from an accidental head clash. 

His most recent fight was against Thomas Dulorme, which happened last weekend. Enis had a super dominating performance, knocking out Dulorme in the first round. 

  1. Danny Garcia

Danny Garcia is another popular American boxer, who has an extensive record of 36 wins and 3 losses. 

He has held multiple world titles in two weight classes. He was the unified WBA (Super), WBC, Ring magazine, and lineal light-welterweight champion between 2012 and 2015. In the welterweight division, he held the WBC title from2016 to 2017. 

Garcia lost his most recent fight against Errol Spence Jr., and his next fight has not been announced yet. 

  1. Shawn Porter

Next up is Shawn Porter, an American Boxer with a record of 31 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw. 

Porter is a former two-time welterweight world champion. He held the IBF title from 2013 to 2014 and the WBC title from 2018 to 2019. He lost the WBS title to Errol Spence Jr. in 2019. Last year, Porter defeated Sebastian Formella and won the vacant WBC Silver welterweight title.

This past weekend Shawn Porter took on Terence Crawford in what was an exciting close fight till the 10th round. In the 10th round Porter was knocked down and then soon after a TKO by Crawford to end the night. Porter showed amazing energy tallying points before being finished. He is now eyeing retirement on an amazing career.

  1. Radzhab Butaev

Title(s): WBA Regular Champion

Radzhab Butaev is an exciting boxer from Russia, who holds an undefeated professional record of 14 wins and 0 losses. 

Last weekend, Butaev also became the WBA (Regular) welterweight champion, after defeating the former champion, Jamal James. The fight was full of action, as Butaev established a good jab and threw some good shots to the body. 

In the 9th round, the referee stepped in after Butaev landed some heavy shots

  1. Yordenis Ugás

Title(s): WBA Super Champion

The next fighter on the list, Yordenis Ugás is from Cuba. Ugás has a professional record of 26 wins and 4 losses. 

He is the current WBA (Super) welterweight champion, holding the title since January. Back in 2019, he also challenged Shawn Porter for the WBC welterweight title but lost a split decision. 

In his most recent fight, he faced off against the Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao and won the fight via a unanimous decision. 

  1. Errol Spence Jr.

Title(s): WBC, IBF Champion

Number two on the list, we have the current unified WBC and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. 

With an undefeated record of 27-0, he has defeated some big names in the sport. In his most recent fight, he defended his titles against Danny García and won via unanimous decision.

He was set to face Pacquiao next, but the fight was canceled when Errol Spence Jr was injured in camp, suffering from a retinal tear in his left eye. 

As of now, there is no official announcement about the champ’s next title defense

 

 

 

  1. Terence Crawford

Title(s): WBO Champion

Terence Crawford is easily one of the best boxers right now. He has an impressive undefeated record of 38-0 and has won multiple world titles in three different weight divisions. He is also the current WBO welterweight world champion and has held the title since 2018. 

Crawford also held the WBO, Ring magazine, and lineal lightweight titles from 2014 to 2015, and was the unified WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, Ring, and lineal light-welterweight titles from 2015 and 2017, making him a former undisputed champion at light-welterweight. 

Crawford’s last defense was against Shawn Porter this past weekend which he won via TKO in the 10th round. In what was an exciting fight, Crawford turned up the heat in the 10th round knocking him down and later finishing him with a combination with the last shot to the temple by a right hook.

Terence Crawford is the first boxer to knockout Shawn Porter. This fight and this finish helps his case as the #1 Welterweight and a discussion as the #1 Pound for Pound boxer in the world.
