Ranking the best players in baseball right now for the MLB 2023 Season as Ronald Acuna Jr. lead the way in the MLB Player Rankings

The 2023 MLB Season put on a firework show all season long both in the American League as well as within the National League. As you start to look around at the level of competition on the baseball diamond, Major League Baseball is loaded with star power both on the pitching mound as well as at the plate and field. This includes the long list of talented MLB All-Stars landing on the Top 10 MLB Player Rankings 2023 list headlined by the Atlanta Braves NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr and the Los Angeles Angels AL MVP Shohei Ohtani.

Acuna is coming off a story book season in which he became the first player in Major League Baseball history to post 40 home runs and 70 stolen bases. In addition to those numbers the Braves All-Star outfielder posted over 100 runs batted in, picked up 45 doubles and scored 149 runs on the season.

Meanwhile over in the American League Ohtani dazzled for three quarters of the season both on the mound as well as at the plate before going down with an arm injury that will force him to not pitch during the 2024 MLB schedule. Ohtani posted 44 home runs to go along with 95 runs batted in at the plate while also

Honorable Mention

Kyle Tucker

Team: Houston Astros

Position: Right Fielder
Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention

Just missing the Top 10 MLB Player Rankings 2023 list list is the Houston Astros right fielder Kyle Tucker. Tucker, who finished 3rd in all of baseball with 112 runs batted in, put together a strong season while helping to guide the Astros to another run to the American League Championship game.

After finishing with 30 home runs in each of the two previous seasons, Tucker capped off his third full season in the Majors with 29 home runs while tying his career high with 37 doubles to go along with a career high 112 runs batted in. The Astros right fielder also saw his batting average creep back up to .284 while posting a 5.4 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark.

Pete Alonso

Team: New York Mets

Position: First Baseman
Previous Ranking: 9

One player on the cut line of the 10 best players in Major League Baseball is the New York Mets veteran first baseman Pete Alonso. Alonso, who ranks among the best power hitters in the game finished the regular season ranked 3rd in baseball with 46 home runs while also finishing 2nd in runs batted in with 118.

However, despite ranking among the best power hitters in the game, Alonso’s low .217 batting average and .318 on base percentage limits his overall potential production all across the board to the Mets lineup.

Nonetheless despite not reaching base as much as other top hitters, Alonso continues to produce at a high rate while seeing his overall Wins Above Replacement sit at just 3.2 on the season.

10. Juan Soto

Team: San Diego Padres

Position: Left Fielder
Previous Ranking: Unranked

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 MLB Players 2023 Rankings list is the San Diego Padres left fielder Juan Soto. Soto is one of the top on base percentage players in baseball despite posting just a .275 batting average.

The Padres outfielder capped off a season leading all of Major League Baseball with 132 walks while posting the 3rd best On Base Percentage marks with a .410 mark. In addition to those numbers Soto added 156 hits, 32 doubles, 35 home runs and 109 runs batted in while also adding 97 runs scored and 12 stolen bases on the season.

9. Adolis Garcia

Team: Texas Rangers

Position: Right Fielder
Previous Ranking: Unranked

It is hard not to include Adolis Garcia in the mix for the best players in baseball after capping off a marvelous 2023 MLB Season by helping the Texas Rangers win the World Series. The Rangers right fielder who was acquired for nearly nothing from the St. Louis Cardinals has been a key acquisition for the Rangers over the past few seasons.

In his third full season with the Rangers, Garcia posted career highs across the board in every offensive category including runs scored (108), runs batted in (107), home runs (39), batting average (.245, and Wins Above Replacement (WAR) (4.2).

8. Sonny Gray

Team: Minnesota Twins

Position: Starting Pitcher
Previous Ranking: Unranked

For over half of the 2023 MLB Season the Minnesota Twins starting pitcher led all of Major League Baseball in earned run average while anchoring down the Twin rotation.

Gray, who is one of the older starters among the league leaderboard, capped off the season strong posting the 3rd lowest earned run average mark in the league at 2.79 among all starting pitchers.

The Twins starter also added a 5.4 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark to go along with an 8-8 record and 183 total strikeouts in 32 starts on the season. In addition, Gray went 1-1 in the postseason for the Twins including leading the team to a 2-0 win over the Blue Jays to advance to take on the Houston Astros.

7. Mookie Betts

Team: Los Angeles Dodgers

Position: Right Fielder
Previous Ranking: 4

Another Los Angele Dodgers All-Star who made a push for the NL MVP Award is the former AL MVP Mookie Betts. Betts who capped off potentially his second best season of his entire career finished the season posting a career high 39 home runs to go along with an MLB best 8.4 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark.

The production does not stop their as Betts added 126 runs scored, 40 doubles, 107 runs scored, a .307 batting average and a .408 On Base Percentage mark while also picking up 96 walks on the season.

6. Freddie Freeman

Team: Los Angeles Dodgers

Position: First Baseman
Previous Ranking: 5

The Los Angeles Dodgers are as loaded as any team in Major League Baseball with Freddie Freeman ranking among the best first baseman in the game. The former Atlanta Braves All-Star first baseman has settled in nicely with the Dodgers while leading all of Major League Baseball with 59 doubles while also being the only player in baseball to top the 50 doubles mark.

The Braves first baseman also ranked among the leaders in runs scored (131), hits (211), batting average (.331), and On Base Percentage (.410). To go along with that number Freeman also posted 29 home runs, 102 runs batted in, and a 6.9 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark across 161 games played.

5. Gerrit Cole

Team: New York Yankees

Position: Starting Pitcher
Previous Ranking: Unranked

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 MLB Players 2023 Rankings list is the Unanimous AL CY Young Award winner Gerrit Cole. The New York Yankees starter was one of the team’s brightest stars all season while finishing the 2023 MLB season leading the American League in earned run average after posting a 2.63 mark across 33 starts on the season.

Over those 33 starts, Cole posted a 15-4 record while doing everything during his starts to keep the Yankees in postseason contention and above the .500 mark on the year.

Overall, Cole finished the season with 209 innings pitched a 7.5 Wins Above Replacement mark which led all starting pitchers while striking out 222 batters across 209 innings of work.

4. Matt Olson

Team: Atlanta Braves

Position: First Baseman
Previous Ranking: 3

When you start to look at the most talented teams in all of baseball over the past 10 to 20 MLB seasons, the 2023 Atlanta Braves rank among the list with a long list of fire power in their lineup. One of those players is NL All-Star first baseman Matt Olson who capped off his best seasons of his seven year MLB career.

Olson who had topped the 30 plus home run mark in three of the four previous seasons set a career high with 54 home runs while also setting a career high in runs batted in with 139.

To go along with setting career highs, the Braves first baseman also led all of Major League Baseball in both statistics while finishing the season with a 7.4 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark. His production on the field and at the plate helped the Braves post the best record in baseball while earning himself his second MLB All-Star selection.

3. Blake Snell

Team: San Diego Padres

Position: Starting Pitcher
Previous Ranking: 6

Despite failing to miss the playoffs the San Diego Padres team still remains one of the most talented in baseball with Blake Snell ranking among the best pitchers in all of baseball.

The veteran starter and former Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher capped off a strong season over 32 starts. Over the 32 starts Snell posted 20 quality starts while pitching 180 total innings. The soon to be 31 year old starter added 234 strikeouts on the season while finishing third in all of baseball while also leading all of Major League Baseball with a 2.25 earned run average.

His production on the mound landed Snell his second career CY Young Award while winning the award in both the American League as well as now in the National League.

2. Shohei Ohtani

Team: Los Angeles Angels

Position: Starting Pitcher, Designated Hitter
Previous Ranking: 2

When it comes to the top two players in all of baseball it simply comes down to Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels and Ronald Acuna Jr of the Atlanta Braves. In the end Ohtani lands at number two on the Top 10 MLB Player Rankings 2023 list after missing time due to various injuries including shutting him down from pitching the rest of the season.

Nonetheless Ohtani who did not play after September 3rd, 2023, finished the season leading the American League with 44 home runs while also driving in 95 runs and posting a .304 batting average.

Meanwhile before going down with an arm injury shutting him down from pitching both this season as well as next season, the Angels starter had posted a 10-5 record to go along with a 3.14 earned run average mark and 167 strikeouts in just 132 innings pitched.

Now the top tier free agent who is more than likely going to find a new home this off-season will look to continue his production at the plate as a full time hitter next season.

1. Ronald Acuna Jr.

Team: Atlanta Braves

Position: Right Fielder

In at number one on the Top 10 MLB Player Rankings 2023 list is the Atlanta Braves right fielder Ronald Acuna Jr. Acuna Jr put together a season no other Major League Baseball player has ever done while posting 41 home runs and stealing 73 total bases.

The Braves right fielder was as dynamic as any player in the game during the 2023 MLB Season while expectations were set high for him leading into the 2024 MLB Season.

The production does not stop there for the Braves All-Star as Acuna finished the season leading all baseball in hits with 217 and runs scored with 149 while posting a .337 batting average to go along with the 2nd highest Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark at 8.1 jut behind Mookie Betts who posted an 8.4 mark.

The Braves outfielder has speed, power, and a great bat to continue to rank among the leader board in most offensive statistics for years to come while also having the potential to take home multiple MVP Awards.
