Top 10 Welterweight Rankings

10. Douglas Lima – Bellator

Lima has been the on and off Bellator Welterweight Champion since 2014. He’s always been in the title picture and is a 3 time champion in the organization. There is no denying he is a Top 10 fighter in the Welterweight division. His latest fight found him dominated by Yaroslav Amosov.

9. Yaroslav Amosov – Bellator, Champion

Amosov is undefeated and delivered his 26th win against then champion Douglas Lima. Amosov controlled Lima with his wrestling throughout the fight. Outside of an attempted armbar late in the fight there was nothing Lima could do to keep his title. Yaroslav Amosov is now the new Bellator Welterweight Champion.

8. Vicente Luque – UFC

Luque has been on a roll since his loss against Stephen Thompson. His last 3 fights were all stoppages by KO or Submission. His last fight against former champion Tyron Woodley was dominant and sealed the deal for another big fight against Michael Chiesa.

7. Stephen Thompson – UFC

“Wonderboy” is at #7 in these rankings with a record of 16-4 and winner of his last two. He is on the short list of fighting for the Welterweight title if he can do something spectacular against his upcoming opponent Gilbert Burns. He is one of the few in the Top 10 that hasn’t faced the Champion Kamaru Usman.

6. Michael Chiesa – UFC

Michael Chiesa is on a 4 fight win streak since his return to the Welterweight division. His last fight against Neil Magny showed his amazing ground skills as he dominated Magny throughout the fight. His next bout is against Vicente Luque who is on a win streak himself.

5. Jorge Masvidal – UFC

Masvidal is 3-2 in his last 5 with his last two against the champion Kamaru Usman. The first encounter he came as a late replacement and lost via unanimous decision. The second was coming off a full camp and lost via KO. Dana White is hinting at Masvidal fighting Leon Edwards but it would make no sense for Edwards.

4. Gilbert Burns – UFC

Since “Durinho” returned to the Welterweight division he has been 4-1 in his last 5. His lone loss was against the champion Kamaru Usman in a fight that showed a lot of heart before the KO stoppage. He has a tough fight next against Stephen Thompson.

3. Leon Edwards – UFC

Leon Edwards hasn’t lost a fight since losing to Kamaru Usman by unanimous decision back in 2015. He now has 9 wins and 1 No Contest since. Before the accidental eye poke against Belal Muhammad he was in cruise control and looked to be the better fighter. This eye poke was unfortunate.

His recent fight against Nate Diaz was a dominant win outside the last minute where he was nearly knocked out. That doesn’t erase his dominant performance against the popular veteran Diaz. Now it looks like he has secured a title shot and will wait for the Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington winner.

2. Colby Covington – UFC

Colby Covington is holding a 16-2 record with his last lost being the current champion Kamaru Usman. Since that last fight he fought against adversary and former champion Tyron Woodley who is now out of the UFC. That dominant showing against Woodley was enough for a rematch Usman as he is now the #1 contender.

1. Kamaru Usman – UFC, Champion

The “Nigerian Nightmare” has been tormenting the division for years. Before winning the UFC title, it was said fighters avoided him. Now touting a record of 16-1 he’s only getting better after each. His latest fight was a rematch where he put a stamp on that matching finishing Jorge Masvidal instead of it going to the judges. His next match looks to be against #1 contender Colby Covington.
