The shooting guard position continues to evolve as the entire landscape of the NBA has evolved over the years. Once a position loaded with talented shooters has now seen many of the best shooting guards in the NBA become all around better players.

This includes the 10 NBA shooting guards landing among the Top 10 NBA Shooting Guards  2023 rankings list. Each of these shooting guards not only have the ability to score at will but also have the ability to handle the basketball, attack the rim, and set their teammates up for their own shots.

Over the years James Harden has ranked among the best shooting guards in the NBA before taking a step back last season. However, the “Beard” as some would call him has returned this season at a high level while doing everything in his power to help the Philadelphia 76ers compete for an NBA Championship in 2023.

Joining Harden on the list of the best shooting guards in the NBA include Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics, Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers. CJ McCollum

Team: New Orleans Pelicans

Just missing the Top 10 NBA Shooting Guards 2023 rankings list is the New Orleans Pelicans veteran shooting guard CJ McCollum.

McCollum who has been around the NBA since being drafted within the 2013 NBA Draft has put together a solid career as one of the NBA’s top shooting guards each regular season.

The same can be said for this season as McCollum is ranked 10th among all shooting guards while averaging 21.1 points per game over his first 52 games of the season. In addition, the Pelicans guard has added 5.9 assists per game to go along with 4.3 rebounds.

Fred VanVleet

Team: Toronto Raptors

If you are looking for a shooting guard that can run the team’s offense while also finding ways to open up his only shot, Fred VanVleet of the Toronto Raptors is that guy.

The Raptors shooting guard who can shoot with the best shooting guards in the NBA also ranks among one of the best passers at the position.

VanVleet is currently averaging 6.6 assists per game while trailing only James Harden among shooting guards in assists. To go along with the 6.6 assists per game, VanVleet is averaging 4.3 rebounds per game to go along with 19.7 points per game.

10. Anfernee Simons

Team: Portland Trail Blazers

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 NBA Shooting Guards 2023 rankings list is a name that not all NBA fans might be aware of and that is Anfernee Simons of the Portland Trail Blazers. 

Simons, who broke on the scene last year for the Trail Blazers posting a career high 17.3 points per game after scoring no higher than 8.3 points per game in the previous three games got a chance to shine with Damian Lillard out.

Simons didn’t disappoint and now the Trail Blazers shooting guard has continued those trends this season posting 21.4 points per game to go along with 4.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game.

9. Dejounte Murray

Team: Atlanta Hawks

After spending the first five seasons of his NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks, Dejounte Murray has landed a new home with the Atlanta Hawks this season.

The move has been a win for Murray as well as for his new Hawks team. Murray is currently shooting 36.3 percent from behind the three-point line this season and 46.2 percent from the field while averaging 20.7 points per game.

While Murray was more of a facilitator in years past, this season the team has relied on him to shoot more. Nonetheless, Murray has performed well on both ends of the floor including posting 1.5 steals per game while also grabbing 5.5 rebounds to go along with 6.1 assists per game.

8. Terry Rozier

Team: Charlotte Hornets

The former first round pick of the Boston Celtics has slowly emerged over the past four seasons as one of the best shooting guards in the NBA.

The same can be said for this season as he ranks among the best in the game while landing on the Top 10 NBA Shooting Guards 2023 rankings list.

Rozier is currently averaging a career high 21.8 points per game this season to go along with 4.9 assists, 4.3 rebounds and a 41.9 percent field goal percentage mark from the field. Meanwhile Rozier is a gritty defender who can slow down an opposing shooter while also forcing over a steal per contest.

7. Klay Thompson

Team: Golden State Warriors

When it comes to one of the best shooters in the NBA, Klay Thompson as well as his teammate Stephen Curry rank among the best in the game.

As Thompson has dealt with some injury concerns over the past few seasons, the longtime Golden State Warriors shooting guard looks healthy during the 2022-23 NBA Season.

Thompson is currently averaging 21.4 points per game while shooting nearly 40 percent from behind the three-point line this season (30.8%) and 44 percent from the field. To go along with his ability to score, Thompson is averaging 3.9 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists this season.

6. Jalen Green

Team: Houston Rockets

One of the youngest faces on the list of the best shooting guards is the former 2nd overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft Jalen Green. Green, who the Houston Rockets selected with that pick, has not disappointed during his sophomore season within the NBA.

After finishing his rookie NBA season averaging 17.3 points per game, Green has increased that performance up to 21.8 points per game this season while also increasing his rebounds per game to four rebounds per game as well as his assists to 3.6 per game.

As the Rockets continue to rebuild with a young core, Green will continue to be a key piece moving forward into the future.

5. Zach LaVine

Team: Chicago Bulls

Rounding out the top five on the Top 10 NBA Shooting Guards 2023 rankings list is the Chicago Bulls shooting guard Zach LaVine.

LaVine who entered this season as a two-time NBA All-Star continues to play at a high level this season while keeping the Bulls in playoff contention within the NBA Eastern Conference. 

Entering the second half of the 2022-23 NBA Season, LaVine currently ranks 4th among all shooting guards in scoring while averaging 24 points per game.

In addition, LaVine ranks 10th in rebounding while averaging 4.9 per game and 11th in assists among the other top shooting guards.

4. Donovan Mitchell

Team: Cleveland Cavaliers

After a busy offseason and start to the 2022-23 NBA Season, Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers has been busy this season producing for a team competing for one of the top seeds in the Eastern Conference.

Mitchell, who is averaging a career high 27.3 points per game this season is also known for his ability to play defense at a high level.

The former Utah Jazz star is posting 1.5 steals per game this season while helping the Cavaliers play top notch defense for most of the season. In addition to those numbers Mitchell ranks 7th among shooting guards while averaging 4.9 assists per game.

3. Anthony Edwards

Team: Minnesota Timberwolves

When it comes to finding new fresh faces around the NBA to take the game into the next decade, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves is one player who has the talent and ability to be the face of the league for many years to come.

Edwards, who will turn 22 in August of 2023, is in his third season in the NBA while continuing to improve each season. After averaging 19.3 points per game as a rookie, Edwards increased those totals to 21.3 points per game last season before registering nearly 25 points per game this season (24.9).

As his scoring numbers have improved his defense has also improved posting a career high 1.6 steals per game as well as his rebounding increasing to 5.9 rebounds and assists to 4.5 per game. 

2. Jaylen Brown

Team: Boston Celtics

It is hard not to like Jaylen Brown as one of the best shooting guards in the NBA while forming one of the best young duos in the NBA with teammate Jayson Tatum.

Brown currently trails only Donovan Mitchell in scoring this season while averaging 26.5 points per game. However, Brown’s play on the defensive end of the floor while shutting down opposing shooting guards has him among the top defenders at the position.

To go with his scoring numbers Brown is posting seven rebounds per game to go along with 3.2 assists per game and 1.1 steals per game.

1. James Harden

Team: Philadelphia 76ers 

The long time NBA All-Star has found his groove again this season for a talented Philadelphia 76ers team looking to make a run during the 2022-23 NBA Playoffs.

Once a league leader in scoring has found a new role with this 76ers team scoring when required while finding his open teammates as much as possible.

His play has shown this all season as he is averaging 21.4 points per game while leading the NBA as well as shooting guards with 10.8 assists per game. The 76ers All-Star is also averaging 6.2 rebounds per game and 1.2 steals per game this season.
