Ranking the best 2021-2022 NBA teams for the month of March after watching Jayson Tatum, Jaylon Brown, and the Boston Celtics debut in our NBA Power Rankings
By admin | March 22, 2022
The 2021-2022 NBA Schedule continues to heat up as the final few weeks of the regular season slowly approaches.
With most teams having completed at least 65 games and most teams having fewer than 20 games remaining on their regular season schedule, the big question around the NBA is which teams are deserving of one of the Top 10 NBA Teams?
The question is very debatable as the league is loaded with talented teams in both the Western Conference as well as the Eastern Conference.
Out West, the battle for the top overall spot continues to be an exciting matchup to watch as now the Memphis Grizzlies have joined the likes of the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors as possibly the three best teams in the entire NBA.
In addition to those three teams, the reigning NBA Champions the Milwaukee Bucks have continued to play at a high level while teams like the Miami Heat, Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks all have shown how good of a team they are.
With that said, here is our list of the Top 10 NBA Teams as of March 15th, 2022
Honorable Mention
Denver Nuggets
Sitting at number one on the first out and just missing the ten spot on the rankings list is the Denver Nuggets who currently hold on to the 6th spot in the Western Conference after posting a 41-28 record through their first 69 games of the season.
This success includes of late as the team has won seven of their past 10 contests including key wins over the Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors over their past five games. Leading the charge is MVP candidate Nikola Jokic who currently leads the team in nearly every offensive and defensive category.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Right behind the Denver Nuggets sit the Minnesota Timberwolves who have won 40 of their first 70 games to start the season including each of their last two games. The back-to-back wins pushed their current mark to 8-2 over their last 10 games allowing them to keep a lead over the Los Angeles Clippers while also making a push to dethrone the Nuggets in the 6th spot.
The Timberwolves have seen production from a wide range of players this season including Karl-Anthony Towns who is coming off an impressive 60-point, 17 rebound performance in the team’s 149-139 win over the San Antonio Spurs.
Top 10 NBA Teams
10. Utah Jazz
When it comes to the number 10 and nine spots, it was a toss up as both teams currently sit with an identical 42-26 record. Nonetheless the Utah Jazz found themselves holding on to a Top 10 NBA Team as of March 15th, 2022, rankings spot.
The Jazz, who have won six of their past 10 games, is a well balanced team on both sides of the ball and one that has used their rebounding and defense to take advantage of their opponents.
The Jazz are holding opponents to the 8th worst three-point shooting percentage, second fewest rebounds and fourth fewest rebounds meanwhile the team ranks 4th in the NBA in total rebounds helping the team the third best point differential at +6.2 in the NBA.
9. Dallas Mavericks
Luka Doncic continues to play at an MVP caliber level despite the departure of a key member of the team Kristaps Porzingis who the team traded before the NBA trade deadline.
Despite the shake up, the Mavericks are one of the hottest teams in the NBA winning eight of their past 10 contests including wins over both the Boston Celtics, Utah Jazz and two straight wins over the Golden State Warriors.
Doncic is putting together another strong season while they have had seven different players this season average in double figures.
8. Chicago Bulls
While some expected the Chicago Bulls to take a big step back after the NBA All-Star break, that has not been the case as the team continues to trend near the top of the Eastern Conference after starting the season winning 41 of their first 68 contests.
Despite the success, the Bulls have stumbled on a list a few spots after winning just four of their last ten contests while allowing the likes of the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics to reach them with 41 total wins. As the team looks to bounce back, key stars such as DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine have the talent to help the team hold tight to one of the top six spots in the Eastern Conference.
7. Boston Celtics
Jayson Tatum is all you need to know when thinking about who this Boston Celtics team is despite their slow start to the regular season. They have been climbing up the NBA standings winning five of their last six games, 14 of their last 17 games since the start of February and 16 of their last 20 overall contests.
Leading that charge has been Tatum who has put himself into the running for the league MVP. Tatum has led the team in scoring in seven straight games while posting multiple double doubles over that stretch. Along with Tatum, Jaylen Brown is averaging 22.9 points per game while five other players average double-digit points.
6. Philadelphia 76ers
As the Boston Celtics make a case to pass the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks hold tight to their two-game lead, the 76ers are right where they want to be heading down to the final month or so of their regular season since acquiring All-Star James Harden.
The 76ers rank 7th in the NBA in opponents scoring average per game and sixth in team blocked shots. Now with Harden growing accustomed to the team’s roster and Joel Embiid playing at an MVP level, the opportunity for the 76ers to make a run at the top overall spot in the Eastern Conference has arrived on their doorsteps.
5. Milwaukee Bucks
The reigning NBA Champions the Milwaukee Bucks are as talented as any team in the NBA led by possibly the best player in the league Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo who ranks 3rd in the NBA in scoring and 5th in rebounds continues to drive the Bucks toward another straight run to the NBA Finals.
The Bucks who have won seven of their last ten games to push their overall record to 43-26 on the year are slowly marching to the top spot within the Eastern Conference. In addition to the Greek Freak, the Bucks have seen Bobby Portis, Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton all average at least 15.3 points per game while having four players average at least four assists per game.
4. Miami Heat
Jimmy Butler continues to be the glue holding the Miami Heat together while leading them to the best record within the Eastern Conference. The Heat who have won 45 of their first 69 games to start the 2021-22 NBA Schedule have a slim two game lead over the surging Milwaukee Bucks. The Heat who have posted an impressive 11-2 record within their division have also posted a 29-13 overall record against teams in the Eastern Conference.
The Heat success comes on both sides of the ball including on defense where they are holding opponents to the fourth lowest scoring total (104.8 ppg), fourth lowest opponents field goal percentage (44.3 percent) and the fewest rebounds allowed (41.8 rpg).
3. Memphis Grizzlies
The battle to land at the number one on the Top 10 NBA Teams as of March 15th, 2022, comes down to the Western Conference as the top three teams on the list all suit up within the conference. While the Memphis Grizzlies have secured the 2nd spot in the Western Conference, the team still has much to prove down the stretch while holding them to the 3rd spot.
However, with the MVP play from JA Morant, the Grizzlies may be a difficult team for opponents over the last portion of the season as well as into the NBA Playoffs. The Grizzlies are as deep as any team in the NBA with seven eight different players averaging at least four rebounds, four five different players averaging at least 10.3 points per game and seven players averaging at least two assists per game.
2. Golden State Warriors
Despite winning just five of their last 10 overall contests, the Golden State Warriors are still one of the top two teams in the NBA and one of the most dangerous teams overall. With both Steph Curry and Klay Thompson shooting the ball well and the team ranking near the tops of the NBA in points allowed to opponents, the Warriors are just fine as they allow their roster to play at their pace down the stretch.
Currently the Warriors rank 5th in fewest points allowed in the NBA (105 ppg), 2nd in the NBA in lowest opponent field goal percentage (43.8 percent) and 4th in fewest rebounds allowed per game (42.6 rpg). Meanwhile their offense ranks 3rd in the NBA in three pointers made per game (14.6) and tied for 2nd with 27.4 assists per game.
1. Phoenix Suns
When you are the only team in the NBA to secure a playoff spot entering Mid-March it is easy to say why you are well deserving of the top overall spot on the Top 10 NBA Teams as of March 15th, 2022, rankings.
The Warriors have eight fewer losses then both the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies while being the only team in the NBA to reach at least 50 wins. The Suns rank 5th in points per game (114), 1st in team field goal percentage (48.3 percent) and 1st in the points differential (+7.9).
While Chris Paul has not played since the All-Star game, the loss of their All-Star hasn’t slowed down the team’s success as stars Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton have stepped up to fill the void. Meanwhile four other players are averaging double figures and two other players are averaging at least 9.3 points per game.
