The landscape of women’s college basketball is loaded with talented women taking to the hardwood night in and night out. Some of those talented NCAA women’s basketball players are fixed among the center positions.

As you start to look at the Top 10 NCAAW Centers February 2023 rankings list, most if not all of these women’s college basketball players are deserving of being in consideration for the Lisa Leslie Award.

The Lisa Leslie Award is handed out each NCAA Women’s Basketball season to the best centers in college basketball.

Landing at the top of the Top 10 NCAAW Centers February 2023 rankings list as well as a front runner candidate to take home the Lisa Leslie Award is the Indiana Hoosiers star Mackenzie Holmes.

Holmes, who has the Hoosier ranked among the top two teams in the country, continues to dominate on both ends of the floor this season.

As Holmes headlines the list of the best centers in Women’s basketball, other top centers include Jessika Carter of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Taiyanna Jackson from the Kansas Jayhawks, and three-time Lisa Leslie Award winner Aliyah Boston of the South Carolina Gamecocks. Here is a look at the Top 10 NCAAW Centers 2023 Rankings.

Honorable Mention

Ila Lane

School: UC Santa Barbara Gauchos

Just missing the cut on the Top 10 NCAAW Centers February 2023 rankings list is the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos junior center Ila Lane.

Since arriving with the Gauchos back for the 2019-20 NCAA basketball season, Lane has averaged at least 12 points per game in each season while also posting at least 8.6 rebounds. 

Currently the Gauchos star center is averaging 12.3 points per game to go along with 8.6 rebounds and nearly one blocked shot per game across 26 games played this season.

Lauren Ebo

School: Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Another talented team across the 2022-23 NCAA Women’s Basketball schedule has been the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

One key member of the very talented Fighting Irish team is Lauren Ebo who continues to bring a strong commitment to the team as well as leadership night in and night out since arriving back in 2018-19.

This season Ebo is currently averaging a career high 9.5 points per game to go along with 6.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists and just below one blocked shot per contest.

Currently the success of Ebo and the team has the Fighting Irish ranked 10th among the Women’s AP Top 25 Basketball poll.

Top 10 Women’s College Centers

10. Bella Murekatete

School: Washington State Cougars

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 NCAAW Centers February 2023 rankings list is the Washington State Cougars senior center Bella Murekatete.

Murekatete has been a key contributor to the teams success this season that has seen the Cougars post a 18-9 record to start the season.

The Butare, Rwanda native is currently averaging 13.4 points per game to go along with 7.1 rebounds and 1.7 in her senior season while shooting 47.6 percent from the field this season. 

Over her last three games Murekatete has posted at least 17 points in each contest to go along with at least seven rebounds a stretch that saw the team win two of three contests.

9. Jessika Carter

School: Mississippi State Bulldogs

One center chasing the Lisa Leslie Award for the best center in women’s college basketball is the Mississippi State Bulldogs senior Jessika Carter.

After posting back-to-back seasons averaging at least 13 points per game, Carter has continued that success this season while currently averaging a career high 14.8 points per game. In addition, Carter has also posted 7.6 rebounds this season and 1.4 assists.

However, Carter’s ability to play aggressively on the defensive end of the floor has made it difficult for opponents to find open shots all season. Carter is currently averaging a career high 2.2 blocked shots per game.

8. Alexis Markowski

School: Nebraska Cornhuskers

Any time any college basketball player is averaging a double double it is pretty impressive while showcasing their ability to play at a high level.

For Alexis Markowski that has been the case since arriving with the Nebraska Cornhuskers as a freshman last season.

The sophomore center is currently averaging 12.4 points per game this season to go along with 10.1 rebounds per game.

The Lincoln, Nebraska native has registered 13 double doubles this season including a season high 24 points to go along with 18 rebounds back in a Cornhuskers 71-53 win in November 2022.

7. Quay Miller

School: Colorado Buffaloes

The Colorado Buffaloes have been as impressive as any team in women’s college basketball this season after starting the season winning 21 of their first 27 games.

Over this stretch the team has found a way to position themselves as the 21st ranked team among the AP Top 25 Women’s Basketball rankings.

One player helping to lead that charge is Quay Miller who currently leads the Buffaloes in scoring (14.2 points per game) and rebounds (8.7 rebounds per game). Miller has also shown her ability to play solid defense all season long while recording 1.5 steals per game. 

6. Dorka Juhasz

School: UConn Huskies

Year in and year out the UConn Huskies continue to find star power all across the hardwood while ranking among the best teams in college basketball each season.

The same can be said this season as the Huskies are currently ranked 4th in the nation winning 24 of their first 28 games this season.

Despite losing Paige Bueckers for the season the Huskies other top stars have stepped up including Dorka Juhasz.

Juhasz who is from Pecs, Hungary is rounding out her college career on a strong note while averaging 14.4 points per game to go along with 3.2 assists, 1.4 blocked shots and 1.4 steals.

5. Taiyanna Jackson

School: Kansas Jayhawks

Rounding out the top five on the Top 10 NCAAW Centers February 2023 rankings list is the Kansas Jayhawks star center Taiyanna Jackson.

Much like many of the other top centers in women’s college basketball, Jackson is in her final season while looking to close out her senior season with a bang. Jackson is currently averaging 15.9 points per game over her first 25 games played this season for the Jayhawks.

While scoring has been solid, Jacksons defense has stood out for most of the season as she can guard and slow down the ball while forcing steals and blocking shots when the ball gets down low.

Jackson is currently averaging 1.6 steals per game to go along with just below three blocked shots per contest (2.9).

4. Aliyah Boston

School: South Carolina Gamecocks

It is hard not to include Aliyah Boston among the best centers in all of basketball and honestly depending on how you rate players and what you look at Boston might still be the best center. 

The South Carolina Gamecocks star is looking to take home the Lisa Leslie Award for the best center for the fourth straight season while leading the Gamecocks to a repeat National Championship during the Women’s NCAA Tournament Bracket during March Madness.

The Gamecocks senior is averaging 13 points per game this season to go along with 9.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.9 blocked shots per game.

Boston has been a key player in the Gamecocks success last season as well as their 27-0 start to the 2022-23 NCAA Women’s Basketball season.

3. Monika Czinano

School: Iowa Hawkeyes

The Iowa Hawkeyes senior center is just one part of the dynamic tandem that Iowa Hawkeyes feature among their starting lineups.

The other part of that tandem has been Caitlin Clark who currently ranks among the best scorers, rebounders, and passers in all of college basketball.

Clark along with Monika Czinano have played extremely well all season while having them currently ranked 6th on the AP Top 25 Women’s College Basketball poll.

The senior center is currently averaging 17.3 points per game to go along with a career high 6.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game this season.

2. Elizabeth Kitley

School: Virginia Tech Hokies

If you want to see a dynamic women’s center in college basketball, look no farther than the Virginia Tech Hokies senior center Elizabeth Kitley.

Kitley, who has solid size at 6 foot 6 inches, also has tremendous athletic abilities and speed to help her dominate on the hardwood.

The Summerfield, North Carolina native is currently averaging a career high 18.3 points per game to go along with a career high 10.8 rebounds per game.

In the year Kitley has posted 16 double double performances including back-to-back games against two strong ACC opponents. Her play on the floor has helped the Hokies land 9th on the AP Top 25 rankings list and third place in the ACC conference. 

1. Mackenzie Holmes

School: Indiana Hoosiers

While the debate could be made for many of these centers to land among the Top 10 NCAAW Centers February 2023 rankings list, only one could with the Indiana Hoosiers star Mackenzie Holmes taking home that honor.

As Holmes chases the Lisa Leslie Award for the best center in college basketball her performance on the floor has been strong all season for the Hoosiers.

A Hoosiers team that is currently ranked 2nd in the country after starting the season with a 26-1 overall record. Currently Holmes ranks 6th in the country in scoring while averaging 22.6 points per game while also adding 7.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

As her offense has been dominant, Holmes has also been strong on the defensive end of the floor while averaging 1.1 steals and 1.9 blocked shots per game.
