Ranking the best NFL teams for the month of October as Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings move up the rankings

The 2022 NFL Schedule roles into Week 7 as the midway point approaches for NFL teams around the league. As you look around the National Football League, many of the same top tier teams land on the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 rankings October list.
However, many of those same teams are sitting with just a .500 record after splitting their games to start the season. Leading the charge as the top team in the NFL is the Buffalo Bills who currently sit atop the AFC East division to start the 2022 season.
As the Bills continue to dominate within the AFC Conference, the Philadelphia Eagles continue to surprise most in the NFC East after starting the season with six straight wins.
Joining the Bills and Eagles inside of the Top 5 NFL teams includes the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants, and Minnesota Vikings
Each of those team’s landed on the list winning at least four games to start the season. Another surprising team to start the season is the New York Jets who have won four of their first six games to position themselves just below the Bills within the AFC East. Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams enter their bye week during Week 7 with a chance to retool themselves after winning just three of their first six contests to start the season.
Despite splitting to start the season the Rams have struggled on offense while averaging just 17.3 points per game to start the season.
In addition, the Rams have had troubles protecting the football, turning the ball over 13 times to start the season including a league high eight interceptions.
These struggles have led to the Rams ranking tied for second to last in the NFL in turnover differential with a mark of -5 to through six games.

Baltimore Ravens

As you start to look around at some of the top teams in the NFL, one team that lands just outside of the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 rankings October list is the Baltimore Ravens after winning just three of their first six games to start the season.
Nonetheless one of those wins came during week 5 of the NFL Schedule 2022 against division rivals the Cincinnati Bengals. Looking at the Ravens the team has been a tale of two halves this season dominating the first half while struggling late.
Overall, the Ravens have had double digit leads in the fourth quarter in all three of their losses before losing late while losing by a combined 11 total points.

10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Despite the return of Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the team finds themselves slotted in at number 10 on the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 rankings October list.
The Buccaneers currently sit atop the NFC South to start the season but have struggled at times on the offensive side of the ball scoring just 103 points on the season. Currently the team ranks 20th in the NFL in scoring averaging 20.2 points per game.
On the defensive side of the football the Buccaneers have been solid recording the 3rd most sacks (21), allowing the 7th fewest yards per game (193.3), and rank 5th in points allowed per game (17.2).

9. Miami Dolphins

After a hot start for the Miami Dolphins including winning three straight games to start the season including an impressive win over the Buffalo Bills, the team has struggled over the past three games.
Much of their struggles have come after losing Tua Tagovailoa to a head injury, as the team has lost three straight contests to fall to 3-3 on the season.
However, the team’s struggles on defense is alarming as the team is allowing 25.8 points per game through their first six contests. Despite their recent struggles. The Dolphins passing attack has ranked near the tops around the league to start the season.

8. New York Jets

One of the most surprising teams in the NFL during the 2022 NFL season has been the New York Jets. The Jets who have gotten off to a 4-2 start to the season while posting the second-best record in the AFC Conference.
After starting the season with a 1-2 record, the Jets have reeled off three straight wins including wins against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins, and Green Bay Packers.
The Jets offense is currently ranked 10th in the NFL in points per game (23.8) while the defense is allowing the 9th fewest number of yards (313.2) in the NFL per game. Rooking running back Breece Hall has been a bright spot racking up 609 yards of offense and four total touchdowns.

7. Dallas Cowboys

After a solid performance during the 2021 NFL schedule high expectations were set for the Dallas Cowboys entering the current NFL season.
Currently the Cowboys are living up to those expectations despite dropping a critical NFC East matchup against the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles during Week 6 of the NFL Schedule.
In addition, the Cowboys have managed to play to a 4-2 record all while missing Dak Prescott over the past five games due to a hand injury. Much of their success is due to their defense which currently ranks 3rd in the NFL while allowing just 16.3 points per game to start the season.

6. Los Angeles Chargers

It is hard to wrap your head around the true potential of the Los Angeles Chargers during the 2022 NFL season. A team expected to compete for the AFC West has done exactly that but at times have looked like a team that could explode at any minute.
The Chargers have started the season with a 4-2 record while sitting tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for the best record within the AFC West.
After dropping back-to-back games during Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3, the Chargers have rolled off three straight wins including a key 19-16 overtime win against division rivals the Denver Broncos in Week 6.

5. New York Giants

Landing in at number five on the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 rankings October list is possibly the most surprising team around the NFL, the New York Giants.
The Giants who have struggled within the NFC East over the past few seasons currently sit at 5-1 on the year and trail only the Philadelphia Eagles within the division.
In addition, the Giants currently have the second-best record within the NFC Conference. The team’s only loss came back in Week 3 in a 23-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
The Giants have used a stingy defense that has allowed the 8th fewest points in the league (18.8) to keep them in football games.

4. Kansas City Chiefs

In the midst of another NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs continue to rank among the best teams in the NFL. Despite the loss of a few key players including All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill, Patrick Mahomes and company has rolled to a 4-2 start to open up the season.
The Chiefs offense currently ranks 1st in the NFL in points per game (29.8) and 5th in total offense (382.3) per game.
One of their two losses came to the hands of the Buffalo Bills in Week 6 while the two losses the team has been outscored by seven total points.

3. Minnesota Vikings

Entering the 2022 NFL Schedule many expected the Green Bay Packers to sit atop the NFC Central division, however that isn’t the case as the NFL season rolls into Week 7 on the NFL Schedule.
The Minnesota Vikings are currently sitting at 5-1 to start the season and trailing just the Philadelphia Eagles (6-0) for the best overall record in the NFL.
The Vikings have used their solid offenses and defenses to outscore their opponents while ranking tied for 2nd in turnover differential (+4) through the team’s first six contests.
The team currently ranks 12th in points allowed per game (19.7), tied for 5th in takeaways (10) and 14th in points per game (23.2).

2. Philadelphia Eagles

While it can easily be debated the Philadelphia Eagles are well deserving of the top spot on the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 rankings October list. Despite starting the season at 6-0, the Eagles land just behind the Buffalo Bills while sitting as the second-best team in the NFL.
The Eagles have looked impressive on the defensive side of the football while the offense has put up the numbers to win football games. The Eagles have protected the football on the year, turning the ball over just two times while forcing a league high 14 interceptions.
Their ability to force turnovers have led to the Eagles allowing the 6th fewest number of points (17.5) in the NFL. On the flip side the Eagles offense ranks 4th in scoring (26.8), third in total yards (394.5), and 5th in rushing (156) per game.

1. Buffalo Bills

In at number one on the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 rankings October list is the first place Buffalo Bills who have started the season with five wins over their first six contests.
Despite sitting behind the Eagles who had the best record, the Bills were a short pass away from also sitting at 6-0 on the year. That loss came to a red-hot Miami Dolphins team that has since struggled due to injuries at the quarterback position.
The Bills offense currently ranks 2nd in the NFL in points per game (29.3), 1st in the NFL in total offense (440.8), and 1st in passing yards per game (323). Meanwhile the defense has allowed the fewest number of points to start the season with just 13.5 points allowed per game.
