Here are the 10 best teams in the NHL so far this season.

Vegas Golden Knights
Minnesota Wild
Nashville Predators
Top 10 NHL Teams
10. St. Louis Blues
The St. Louis Blues had a slow start of the season but recently has climbed to the third spot in the West and had many blowout wins this season. They are one of the most fun teams to watch this season and should not be underestimated by any means. They are the fifth-best scoring team in the league with 3.6 goals per game and are third in power-play conversion.
9. Boston Bruins
The Boston Bruins are not as good as they were in the past seasons but are still a tough team that can upset any contender in the East. The Bruins are ranked third in the league in shots allowed and fifth in goals allowed which puts them among the best defensive teams in the league. They also convert on 25% of their power plays which ranks them fourth in the league.
8. New York Rangers
The New York Rangers are the sleeping favorite this season in the NHL. As usual, they are among the top defensive teams in the league as they are ranked third in goals allowed with 2.6 per game. Offensively, they have one of the best duos in the league as they are the only team that has players among top three scoring and assists leaders in Chris Kreider and Artemi Panarin.
7. Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames had a slow start of the season but were the hottest team in the league in February, winning 10 straight games at one point. The Flames are among the top 3 teams in the league in every defensive category and have had 10 shutdowns already this season. Johnny Gaudreau is second in assists and fourth in total points in the league and seems ready to lead his team to a deep playoff run.
6. Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs are one of the toughest teams to predict in the league but on the other hand, that is exactly what makes them dangerous. On a good night, Toronto can beat literally any team but also had a couple of disappointing losses during the season. Still, the Maple Leafs are a serious contender mainly because they have Auston Matthews who leads the league in goals scored.
5. Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins had many ups and downs during the season but were able to regroup and get back among the top four teams in the Eastern Conference. They are among the top 10 teams in the league in every major defensive stats category and their offensive efficiency has never been questionable. Sidney Crosby plays like he doesn’t age and the Penguins cannot be counted out as long as “Sid the Kid” plays on a high level.
4. Tampa Bay Lightning
The defending champions are having another solid season and it will not be a surprise if they go for another deep playoff run. Steven Stamkos finally has an injury-free season and the Lightning often seems unbeatable when he is on top of the game. Andrei Vasilevsky is still among the top goalies in the league and he can be the key man when playoff time comes.
3. Florida Panthers
The Florida Panthers are the best-scoring team in the league with 4.2 goals per game. They are the best home team in the league winning on average by more than two goals differential in FLA Live Arena. Jonathan Huberdeau leads the league in assists but the Panthers looked very vulnerable when he was out with an injury.
2. Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes were considered a ‘dark-horse’ candidate this season but by this point, they have proved that they are real contenders. Carolina is the best defensive team in the league allowing only 2.4 goals per game and saving their net in 89.4% when playing under penalty. In 44% of the games, the Hurricanes have allowed not more than one goal.
1. Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche entered the season as top contenders to win the Stanley Cup but many doubted them after a slow start losing 6 of the first 10 games. As the season progressed, the Avalanche improved their game winning 15 of 16 games in January. They have a double-digits point lead in the Western Conference and will most definitely go into the playoffs as the top seed.
