Updating the best Lightweight Boxers - World Rankings after Gervonta Davis defeated Frank Martin by knockout to retain the WBA Title

Who is the Best Lightweight Boxer?

These boxing lightweight rankings have some of the most exciting boxers in the world right now, and with the former undisputed champion, Devin Haney moving up to super lightweight, the division is wide open. Gervonta Davis recently shows why he is the most exciting boxer today. Lomachenko once again makes it to the top of the Lightweight rankings as the best boxer after winning the IBF and IBO titles. However, before we get into the updated lightweight boxing rankings, here are some honorable mentions.

What is a Lightweight in Boxing?

Lightweight is a weight class of boxers that consists of boxers weighing 130 pounds (59kg) to 135 pounds (61.2 kg). The following are the Best Lightweight Boxers in the World.

10. Keyshawn Davis

Starting the list, we have Keyshawn Davis is an American, undefeated professional boxer with 10 wins on his resume. 

Davis is the current WBO Inter-Continental lightweight champion and also holds the  IBF–USBA lightweight title as well. He made it into the rankings after his most recent win over José Pedraza, whom he defeated by 8th round TKO. 

For his next fight, Keyshawn Davis is scheduled to face Miguel Madueno on July 6th, 2024.

9. George Kambosos Jr.

George Kambosos Jr is an Australian boxer with a professional record of 21 wins and 3 losses. 

Kambosos is the former unified WBA, WBO, IBF, and the Ring lightweight champion, and won the titles after defeating Teofimo Lopez. However, in his next fight, he lost the title to Devin Haney. 

He rematched against British boxer, Maxi Hughes, which he won in a close controversial fight by majority decision. He won the IBO Lightweight Championship.

In his most recent fight, he fought Vasiliy Lomachenko with his IBO, and the vacant IBF title on the line, however, he lost via TKO in the 11th round.

8. Denys Berinchyk

  • WBO Lightweight World Champion

Next up, we have Denys Berinchyk from Ukraine, who is an undefeated professional boxer, with 19 wins on his record.

Berinchyk is the current WBO International Lightweight champion and has already defended his title 8 times. He has also held other regional titles including the European lightweight title, and WBO Oriental lightweight title. 

Berinchyk defeated Anthony Yigit via Unanimous Decision, and earned a fight against WBO Super Featherweight World Champion Emanuel Navarrete with the vacant WBO Lightweight world title on the line. He received the upset split decision win to in a slow fight.

7. Raymond Muratalla

Next up, we have Raymond Muratalla from the United States. He is an undefeated boxer with 20 wins on his record and is ranked #7 on our list. 

Muratalla is the former NABF and WBO Global Lightweight champion and has defended his titles once as well. In his most recent fight, he defeated South African boxer Xolisani Ndongeni via Unanimous Decision, and there is no official announcement about his next fight.

6. Frank Martin

Frank Martin is a professional boxer from the USA, and he has an undefeated record of 18 wins and 0 losses. 

He has notable wins over fighters like Jerry Perez, Romero Duno, Jackson Maríñez, and Michel Rivera. He defeated Artem Harutyunyan winning by unanimous decision. A knockdown in the last round of the sealed the victory.

In his recent fight he faced Gervonta Davis for the WBA Lightweight World Title. Martin used his footwork and jab to keep Davis at bay and were successful in a couple counters as well. Martin started slowing down in the fourth round where he ate power shots in the 7th round. He was knocked out in the following round.

5. Ryan Garcia

Ryan Garcia is an American boxer with an undefeated record of 25 wins and 1 loss. 

Garcia is the former WBC interim lightweight champion. He won the title after defeating Luke Campbell back in January of 2021. Garcia has also held multiple regional titles, including the WBC silver lightweight title. 

In his most recent fight, Garcia moved up to super lightweight to fight Devin Haney and won via Majority decision. As of now, his fight is under investigation as he failed his drug test and the fight could be overturned.

4. William Zepeda

William Zepeda is a Mexican professional boxer, and he has an undefeated record of 30 wins and 0 losses. 

Zepeda has previously held the WBC Continental Americas lightweight title, which he defended twice. He defeated Jaime Arboleda by knockout. Zepeda knocked down Arboleda 3 times in the 2nd round all by body shots.

He defeated Mercito Gesta via TKO and then in his next fight he defeated Maxi Hughes. As of now, there is no official announcement about his next fight. 

3. Shakur Stevenson

  • WBC Lightweight World Champion

Shakur Stevenson is a professional boxer from the USA. He has an undefeated record of 21-0.

Stevenson is the current WBC lightweight world champion and the former unified The Ring, WBO, and WBC super featherweight champion of the world. He was stripped of his titles after missing weight for his fight against Robson Conceição. Stevenson is also the former WBO Featherweight world champion and has held multiple regional titles. 

Stevenson put on a technical clinic in his Lightweight introduction to the weight class against Shuichiro Yoshino. He defeated him via Unanimous Decision in a very one-sided match.

Stevenson then defeated Edwin De Los Santos to win the vacant WBC lightweight title. The fight was very slow-paced, as Stevenson relied more on his defense to get the unanimous decision win. Though it wasn’t his most exciting performance, he won the fight decisively, by outclassing his opponent.

Stevenson is scheduled to face Artem Harutyunyan on July 6th.

2. Gervonta Davis

Title(s):

  • WBA Lightweight World Champion

Gervonta Davis is an American Boxer with an undefeated professional record of 29 wins and 0 losses. 

Davis has held world titles in three different weight classes, he recently held the WBA lightweight world title and defended it 4 times. He also held the same title at super lightweight, and the WBA (Super) and IBF titles at super featherweight.

Against Hector Garcia, he had quite a competitive fight until the 8th round when Davis dropped Garcia with a flush straight left. Davis continued to visibly hurt Garcia for the remainder of the round. The fight was called off by Garcia Corner after the 8th round and Davis won via Corner stoppage. 

Davis fought Ryan Garcia. He dominated the fight from start to finish, getting a knockdown in the second round, followed by a finish in the seventh round. It was done by a body shot that shutdown Garcia for the 10 count.

In his most recent fight, Davis faced Frank Martin and won by knockout. Martin kept Davis at bay with his footwork and tagging him on the move. Davis kept moving forward hitting Martin with power shots and successfully landing an uppercut to stun him. Soon after finished him off in the 8th round with a vicious left hand.

1. Vasyl Lomachenko

  • IBF Lightweight World Champion
  • IBO Lightweight World Champion

Vasyl Lomachenko is a Boxer from Ukraine. He has a professional boxing record of 18 wins and 3 losses. 

Lomachenko has won world titles in three different world classes, and at lightweight, he held the unified WBA (Super), WBO, WBC, and The Ring lightweight titles. He lost the title to Teofimo Lopez, however, since then, he has won his next three fights in a row.

Lomachenko faced Devin Haney for the undisputed title and lost a close fight to Haney losing by split decision. He won the early rounds and later rounds as well with heavy shots but was not enough.

Vasyl Lomachenko is the current unified IBF and IBO Lightweight world champion after defeating former champ George Kambosos Jr via 11th-round TKO. Loma dominated the fight from the beginning, and finally dropped Kambosos twice with body shots in the 11th round, getting the TKO win.
