The game of baseball continues to see top tier players take the diamond each season with the 2023 MLB season being no different. As the second full month of the 2023 MLB season ends a chance to look at the top performing MLB left fielders has presented itself.

As you start to look around the best left fielders in baseball a solid list of players present themselves as candidates to land among the Top 10 Best MLB Left Fielders 2023 Rankings list. One of those players is the Houston Astros left fielder Yordan Alvarez.

Alvarez is off to another hot start to his young career as he currently leads all MLB left fielders with 14 home runs to start the season. As the Astros 25-year-old left fielder looks to repeat past success, other top left fielders including Randy Arozarena of the Tampa Bay Rays make a case for themselves to rank as the best left fielder in all of baseball.

Joining Alvarez and Arozarena on the list of the best left fielders includes Juan Soto of the San Diego Padres, Bryan Reynolds of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Here is a look at the Top 10 MLB Best Left Fielders 2023 Rankings.

Honorable Mention

Bryan De La Cruz

Team: Miami Marlins

Landing just outside of the Top 10 MLB Left Fielders 2023 Rankings list is the Miami Marlins left fielder Bryan De La Cruz. The 26-year-old left fielder from the Dominican Republic is in the midst of his second full season in the majors after making his MLB debut back during the 2021 MLB Season.

De La Cruz is currently off to a stronger start in 2023 while batting .291 over his first 182 at bats of the season. Over the course of the 182 at bats, the Marlins outfielder had picked up 10 doubles, six home runs, 23 runs scored while driving in 20 runs.

Corbin Carroll

Team: Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks have a very talented outfield crew including rookie Corbin Carroll as well as Lourdes Gurriel Jr. While each land among the best left fielders rankings list, the tandem have both split time in left field with the majority of their at bats coming while playing left field.

Nonetheless Carroll is well deserving of a mention as the 22-year-old left fielder is currently batting .282 on the season with eight home runs and 19 runs batted in.

The Diamondbacks left fielder currently ranks 11th in hits with 50, tied for 7th with 13 doubles, and tied for 7th with eight home runs.

Top 10 Left Fielders

10. Steven Kwan

Team: Cleveland Guardians

Coming in at number 10 is the Cleveland Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan who was in the running for the 2022 AL Rookie of the Year Award.

While Kwan has not seen the power numbers expected to start the season the Guardians left fielder still ranks tied for 5th in baseball with 54 hits to start the season over his first 206 at bats. 

Among those 54 hits, Kwan has posted 13 doubles, one triple and one home run while scoring 31 runs and driving in 17 total runs while posting a .349 on base percentage mark.

9. Jarred Kelenic

Team: Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners are building one impressive lineup built around a core of young studs including Jarred Kelenic who joins Julio Rodriguez within the outfield.

Kelenic, who will turn 24 years old in July, is batting .283 on the year over the course of his first 191 at bats while picking up 54 hits over that stretch.

The Mariners left fielder has added a .340 on base percentage to go along with a 1.8 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark while hitting 14 doubles and 10 home runs to start the 2023 MLB season.

8. Austin Hays

Team: Baltimore Orioles

When it comes to top outfielders sometimes you have to look past just their offense and that is the case with the Baltimore Orioles left fielder Austin Hayes.

Hayes holds the 4th best Defensive Wins Above Replacement (DWAR) mark among all left fielders while also sitting tied for the lead with three outfield assists to start the season.

In addition to his play at the plate, Hays ranks 2nd among left fielders with a .315 batting average while picking up 56 hits over the course of his first 178 at bats of the season. Among those 56 hits, Hays has picked up 13 doubles, two triples and six home runs to go along with 22 runs batted in.

7. Masaktaka Yoshida

Team: Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox rookie left fielder has been impressive after making the transition from the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league to Major League Baseball.

The former two-time Pacific League Batting Champion currently ranks 3rd among all left fielders with a .303 batting average to start the 2023 MLB season over his first 175 at bats.

Over those 175 at bats Yoshida has added 10 doubles, one triple, and six home runs while driving in 29 runs. The Red Sox left fielder has also added a .379 on base percentage mark to go with a .853 OPS over 45 games this season.

6. Brent Rooker

Team: Oakland A’s

The 28-year-old left fielder of the Oakland A’s is making the most of his opportunities to play every day during the 2023 MLB season. Entering the 2023 MLB season Brent Rooker had appeared in no more than 58 games over his career dating back to 2020 while picking up no more than nine home runs.

Through 49 games in 2023, Rooker has set a career high in home runs with 11, hits with 43, and runs batted in with 32. Rooker currently ranks tied for 2nd in home runs and 4th in runs batted in among all MLB left fielders during the 2023 MLB schedule.

5. Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

Team: Arizona Diamondbacks

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 MLB Left Fielders 2023 Rankings is the Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

Gurriel Jr. who has recorded the majority of his bats while playing left field has built a solid rotation with Diamondbacks rookie Corbin Carroll during the 2023 MLB season.

Gurriel Jr who was traded to the Diamondbacks during the offseason is batting .319 on the season to go along with nine home runs and 29 runs batted in.

His .319 batting average leads all MLB left fielders to start the season while also ranking 2nd with a 1.9 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark. 

4. Juan Soto

Team: San Diego Padres

It is hard to look past Juan Soto of the San Diego Padres as one of the best hitters in all of baseball and top left fielders. The Padres left fielder currently leads all third left fielders with a 2.0 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark over the course of his first 53 games played this season.

Over those 53 games Soto has posted 47 hits in 180 at bats including 14 doubles and 10 home runs while also adding 50 total walks. The Padres left fielder currently leads all left fielders in walks and on base percentage (.422).

3. Bryan Reynolds

Team: Pittsburgh Pirates

One popular name during the MLB offseason was Bryan Reynolds of the Pittsburgh Pirates who was subjected to trade rumors dating back to last season.

Now after landing a new eight-year deal, Reynolds continues to be one of the faces of the Pirates organization while ranking among the best left fielders in baseball.

The Pirates left fielder is currently batting .284 on the season with seven home runs to go along with 33 runs batted in and an .839 OPS mark.

Currently Reynolds ranks 2nd in hit with 56 among left fielders while also ranking 3rd in runs batted in over his first 51 games of the 2023 MLB season.

2. Randy Arozarena

Team: Tampa Bay Rays

It has been a crazy few months for Randy Arozarena dating back to his stellar performance during the World Baseball Classic (WBC). That performance has continued during the regular season while Arozarena has helped the Tampa Bay Rays to the hottest start in baseball in 2023. 

The Rays left fielder is currently batting .296 on the season with 56 hits over his first 53 games including seven doubles, one triple, and 11 home runs. In addition to those numbers Arozarena currently ranks tied for 2nd with a 1.9 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark. 

1. Yordan Alvarez

Team: Houston Astros

In at number one on the Top 10 MLB Left Fielders 2023 Rankings is the Houston Astros left fielder Yordan Alvarez. It is hard to look past Alvarez as the top left fielders currently in all of baseball after his strong start to the season.

The Astros left fielder currently leads all left fielders in home runs with 14 and runs batted in with 48 while also posting a .284 batting average and .397 on base percentage.

The numbers don’t stop there as Alvarez currently leads all left fielders in total bases (101), slugging percentage (.598), and OPS (.995).
