MLB Top 10 Best Third Basemen 2023 Rankings

Ranking the best third basemen of 2023 so far as Rafael Devers leads the way. Also where Max Muncy, Jose Ramirez, and more rank

The 2023 Major League Baseballschedule continues to move along as the month of May comes to an end and June arrives. The first two plus months of the season has delivered a ton of excitement for fans all around the country as many of the games top players have put together strong starts to the season.

One of those top young MLB stars is the Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers who continues to produce at a high-level despite being just 26 years old. Devers currently lands at the top of the Top 10 3rd Baseman 2023 Rankings list.

Entering the final few days of May 2023, Devers currently leads all MLB third baseman’s with 44 runs batted in while also ranking tied for 4th in all of baseball. As Devers has been hot to start the season the Red Sox third baseman is just one of a solid list of third baseman performing. 

Joining Devers among the top third baseman’s in baseball list is Max Muncy of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals, Josh Jung of the Texas Rangers, and Isaac Paredes of the Tampa Bay Rays. Here is a look at the Top 10 MLB 3rd Baseman 2023 Rankings.

Spencer Steer

Team: Cincinnati Reds 

Landing just outside of the Top 10 MLB Third Baseman Rankings list is the Cincinnati Reds third baseman Spencer Steer. Steer who is in his first full season in the Majors during the 2023 MLB season has not disappointed to start the season.

The 25-year-old third baseman currently ranks 3rd among MLB third baseman’s with a .284 batting average while picking up 55 hits over his first 194 at bats of the season.

In addition to the batting average, Steer has added a .352 on base percentage mark to go along with 14 doubles, two triple, and seven home runs while also adding 25 runs batted in.

Gio Urshela

Team: Los Angeles Angels

Only thing holding Gio Urshela back from a top 10 mark on the top MLB third baseman list is the lack of power numbers to start the season.

The Los Angeles Angels third baseman currently leads all third baseman in hits with 57 tied with Matt Chapman while also leading all hitters with a .310 batting average.

Over those 57 hits the Angels third baseman has picked up seven doubles, one triple and two home runs while scoring 19 runs and driving in 23 runs to start the season.

10. J.D. Davis

Team: San Francisco Giants

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 MLB Third Baseman 2023 Rankings is the San Francisco Giants third baseman J.D. Davis.

The Giants third baseman is putting together a strong season at the plate while ranking among the Top 10 third baseman in batting average, home runs, runs batted in, and on base percentage. 

Overall, Davis has 47 hits to start the season including eight doubles and nine home runs while driving in 30 runs to go along with his .354 on base percentage mark. 

9. Eugenio Suarez

Team: Seattle Mariners

The former Cincinnati Reds third baseman and currently Seattle Mariners third baseman has gotten off to another solid start in 2023.

Entering the 2023 MLB season Eugenio Suarez had posted 32 home runs in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023 while also completing the accomplishment in four of the past five overall seasons.

Suarez enters the final week of May 2023 batting .216 on the season to go along with a .332 on base percentage while hitting five doubles and six home runs to go along with 34 runs batted in to start the season.

8. Matt Chapman

Team: Toronto Blue Jays

One team that is loaded with offensive firepower is the Toronto Blue Jays while one of those weapons being third baseman Matt Chapman.

The Blue Jays 30-year-old third baseman currently sits tied with Gio Urshela for the lead in hits with 57 among all third baseman.

In addition to leading all third baseman in hits, Chapman currently leads all third baseman with 19 doubles to start the season while also adding seven home runs and 27 runs batted in.

The Blue Jays third baseman also leads all third baseman with a 2.4 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark over the course of his first 53 games of the season.

7. Austin Riley

Team: Atlanta Braves

If you are looking for one of the bright young faces of Major League Baseball look no farther than the Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley.

Riley, who just turned 26 back in April is coming off back-to-back MLB seasons with at least 33 home runs while driving in 93 runs.

To start the 2023 MLB season, the Braves third baseman has continued his success picking up 57 hits over his first 210 at bats including 11 doubles and 10 home runs while driving in 28 runs and posting a .271 batting average.

Riley’s strong play at the plate lands him 6th among all third baseman with a 1.2 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark to start the season.

6. Jose Ramirez

Team: Cleveland Guardians

The face of the Cleveland Guardians organization Jose Ramirez continues to produce at a high level each season since making his debut back during the 2013 MLB season.

Since that season, Ramirez has posted five 23 plus home run seasons, three seasons with at least 100 plus runs batted in, and six seasons with at least 30 doubles.

Ramirez is on the same pace to match that type of production batting .272 to start the season while posting 14 doubles, six home runs and driving in 68 runs to go along with a .347 on base percentage.

5. Isaac Paredes

Team: Tampa Bay Rays

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 MLB Third Baseman 2023 Rankings list is the Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Isaac Paredes.

Paredes, who is not a well known third baseman, is in his second season with the Rays after spending his first two seasons with the Detroit Tigers during the 2020 and 2021 MLB seasons. 

After hitting 20 home runs and 16 doubles last season, Paredes is off to a red-hot start in 2023 while ranking among the top third baseman’s in multiple offensive categories including doubles, home runs and runs batted in. Overall Paredes is batting .282 on the season with 10 doubles, eight home runs and 37 runs batted in.

4. Nolan Arenado

Team: St. Louis Cardinals

One of the top third baseman in all of baseball each season both at the plate as well as in the field is the St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado.

The former 10-time Gold Glove Award winner and seven-time NL All-Star is currently batting .262 on the season with nine home runs and 35 runs batted in while posting a .736 OPS mark. 

Currently Arenado ranks tied for 4th in baseball with the 35 runs batted in while also adding six doubles and one triple to start the season while also scoring 26 runs to go along with his 55 total hits.

3. Josh Jung

Team: Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers continue to be one of the hottest teams in baseball while multiple players put together strong 2023 MLB seasons. One of those players is 25-year-old third baseman Josh Jung who is appearing in his first full season in the big leagues.

After playing in 26 games last season and hitting five home runs, Jung has been the team’s day third baseman all season.

A move that has paid off as Jung is currently batting .283 on the year with nine home runs, one triple, 11 home runs, and 35 runs batted in while posting a 1.6 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) mark. Jung currently ranks 4th among all MLB third basemen in hits, batting average, home runs and runs batted in. 

2. Max Muncy

Team: Los Angeles Dodgers

Only one player could land at number one on the list of the best MLB third baseman leaving Max Muncy to land at number two.

The Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman is putting together one of the best seasons of his career while leading all third baseman’s with 17 home runs to start the season.

To go along with the 17 home runs, Muncy has added three doubles and 38 runs batted in while also adding 34 runs scored. Only thing holding Muncy back from the top spot is the .208 batting average over his first 168 total at bats of the season.

1. Rafael Devers

Team: Boston Red Sox

In at number one on the Top 10 MLB Third Baseman 2023 Rankings is the Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers. Evers, who has hit at least 20 home runs in four of the previous five MLB seasons, is off to another hot start in 2023 while hitting 13 home runs over his first 50 games of the season.

In addition to the 13 home runs, the Red Sox third baseman has added 12 doubles while leading all third baseman with 44 runs batted in and 27 runs scored to start the season.
