Some teams have solidified themselves as legitimate contenders, while others have exceeded expectations. With the playoffs looming, here’s a breakdown of the Top 10 Best NBA Teams this season and how they stack up heading into the postseason.

Before we go into the Top 10 Best NBA Teams 2024-2025 Rankings, here is an Honorable Mention that just missed the list.

Honorable Mention

Milwaukee Bucks

Despite only sitting four games above .500, the Bucks still have a dangerous duo in Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. Although their defense has struggled at times, the star power alone makes them capable of beating any team in a seven-game series.

Milwaukee also recently acquired Kyle Kuzma in exchange for Khris Middleton, which could give the team a much-needed spark. They could make noise in the playoffs if they can hit their stride at the right time.

Top 10 Best NBA Teams Right Now

10. Indiana Pacers

The Pacers have had a solid season and find themselves comfortably in the playoff picture. Tyrese Haliburton has taken another leap, orchestrating one of the most efficient offenses in the league.

With a strong supporting cast and a well-coached squad, Indiana is poised to be a tough out in the postseason. Their defensive improvements and ability to score in transition make them a legitimate threat to higher-seeded teams. The Pacers have also seen significant contributions from their bench, adding depth to their rotation.

9. Los Angeles Clippers

Given their high expectations, it has been a disappointing year for the Clippers. However, with Kawhi Leonard back and James Harden and Norman Powell stepping up in key moments, they still have the ability to compete at a high level.

Their inconsistency remains an issue, but if they can string together strong performances, they could be a dangerous dark horse in the playoffs. However, time is running out for the Clippers to make a championship run, as their top guns are reaching the end of their primes.

8. Houston Rockets

Few expected Houston to be this competitive, but they have surpassed expectations and are in the thick of the playoff hunt. With young stars like Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, and Amen Thompson stepping up and their defense improving throughout the season, the Rockets have become a team nobody wants to face.

They could make a surprise playoff run if they can maintain their momentum and their younger players continue to shine. Veteran leadership has also helped keep the team steady through adversity.

7. Los Angeles Lakers

Lebron James

The Lakers have put together a strong season, and the addition of Luka Doncic has added another dimension to their offense. LeBron James is still playing at an elite level, and Austin Reaves and Dalton Knecht continue to contribute from the wings.

With their veteran leadership and championship pedigree, they remain a legitimate threat in the West. The Lakers’ ability to close out games in crunch time will be a key factor in their postseason success.

6. New York Knicks

The Knicks made a splash by acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns, and while his presence has helped by opening up the offense for Jalen Brunson to facilitate, they have still struggled against top-tier competition. Still, their defense has been a bright spot, and if they can stay healthy, they have the potential to make a deep playoff run.

Few teams have a stronger starting five, but the question remains whether they can perform at a high level consistently in the postseason. The Knicks’ physicality and rebounding could make them a tough matchup for any opponent.

5. Memphis Grizzlies

Ja Morant

Memphis has had an exciting season, fueled by a young and energetic roster led by Ja Morant. Their ability to play fast, their depth, and their addition of 7’4 rookie center Zach Edey have made them a dangerous opponent.

While they may not be the favorites to win it all, they can pull off an upset in the playoffs and make a deep run. The Grizzlies’ defensive intensity and ability to force turnovers have been crucial to their success.

4. Denver Nuggets

Nikola-Jokic

The Nuggets have struggled defensively, allowing the most opponent points per game among all Western Conference playoff teams. However, with Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray leading the way, they remain a serious contender.

If they can tighten up on defense, they will be tough to beat in a seven-game series. Denver’s playoff experience and chemistry could give them an edge against less battle-tested teams.

3. Boston Celtics

Jayson Tatum

Boston hasn’t been as dominant as in previous years, but they are still one of the most complete teams in the league. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown continue to be a formidable duo, and their depth makes them a tough matchup for anyone.

They will look to fend off challengers and make another deep playoff push. The Celtics’ ability to stretch the floor with their three-point shooting will be a major weapon in the playoffs.

2. Cleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland has emerged as the top team in the East, holding off Boston to claim the best record in the conference. Their balanced attack led by Donovan Mitchell and strong defense with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in the paint has made them a formidable force.

With an opportunity to win their first conference title since 2016, they must prove they can hold off the elite competition in the playoffs. The Cavaliers’ ability to control the pace of the game will be key to their success.

1. Oklahoma City Thunder

Shai Gilgeous Alexander

The Thunder have shocked the league as they currently hold the best record in the NBA. Their young core, including Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams, has taken a massive leap, and they have firmly established themselves as legitimate title contenders.

With their mix of talent, athleticism, and defensive prowess, Oklahoma City will be a tough opponent for any team in the postseason. Their sights are now set on bringing a championship back to OKC. The Thunder’s ability to stay composed in high-pressure situations will be critical in their playoff run.
