The National Basketball Association has produced a long list of great NBA coach’s year in and year out. The same can be said as you look towards the upcoming 2022-23 NBA Season and the list of coaches around the league.

As you start to look around the NBA many of those great coaches are well deserving of a spot among the Top 10 NBA Head Coaches 2022 rankings list.

A list that includes one of the greatest NBA coaches of All-Time and one of the best coaches over the past five plus NBA seasons.

Leading the rankings among the best coaches in the NBA are the Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and the San Antonio Spurs coaching legend Greg Popovich.

Each of these two coaches have coached among NBA dynasties while also building their organizations to rank among the best in the NBA.

Along with Kerr and Popovich the list of the Top 10 NBA Coaches 2022 includes the likes of Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks and Ime Udoka of the Boston Celtics. Here is a look at the Top 10 NBA Coaches 2022 rankings list

Honorable Mention

Mike Brown

Team: Sacramento Kings

Landing back at top as an NBA head coach is the former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown. Brown, who was hired by the Sacramento Kings in early May will look to guide the Kings back to the playoffs after not appearing in the postseason since the 2006 NBA season.

Despite being fresh back into coaching, Brown has led multiple high caliber teams including the Cavaliers team that reached the NBA Finals in 2007.

Over the past five plus seasons Brown has been an assistant coach to Steve Kerr while being a part of three NBA Championships with the club.

Ime Udoka

Team: Boston Celtics

One of the fresh faces of the NBA is the second year Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka who took over last season after spending the 2020-21 NBA season as an assistant with the Brooklyn Nets.

Udoka is another top tier assistant coach who spent time within a Championship organization after spending 2012 to 2019 with the San Antonio Spurs and Greg Popovich.

In his first season in Boston, Udoka would guide the Celtics to a 51-31 overall record before falling in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Top 10 NBA Coaches

10. Mike Budenholzer

Team: Milwaukee Bucks

Since arriving as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2018-19 NBA Season, Mike Budenholzer has helped guide the team to the postseason in each of those four seasons.

Over that stretch the Bucks have finished with a record with no fewer than 46 wins while winning at least five playoff games in each season.

This includes the 2020-21 NBA season as the team went on to win the NBA Championship after going 16-7 in the NBA Playoffs.

While having Giannis Antetokounmpo can make it a little easy, finding chemistry around him continues to be a challenge each season.

9. Michael Malone

Team: Denver Nuggets

Entering his eighth season as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets, Michael Malone continues to be one of the better coaches around the NBA.

In each of the past four seasons, the Nuggets have reached the postseason with Malone putting together his best coach performance last year after losing multiple star players to injury.

Malone with the help of NBA MVP Nikola Jokic still managed to win 48 games before losing in the first round of the playoffs.

With the off-season additions of Aaron Gordon and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the hopeful returns of Jamal Murray and Michael Porter, Malone should have a ton of fire power to help guide the Nuggets back to the postseason.

8. Doc Rivers

Team: Philadelphia 76ers

As NBA fans continue to wait to see Doc Rivers get another NBA championship, it is hard not to include him among the best coaches in the NBA right now.

Rivers, who is in his third season with the Philadelphia 76ers has posted a combined 100-54 record over the past two seasons and two strong playoff runs.

However, his struggles to reach the NBA Finals with star loaded teams lands him at number eight on the Top 10 NBA Coaches 2022 rankings list as the 2022-23 NBA season approaches. Can 2022-23 be the year Rivers lands another NBA Championship?

7. Ty Lue

Team: Los Angeles Clippers

Despite failing to reach the NBA playoffs during the 2021-22 NBA schedule, Ty Lue continues to rank among one of the best head coaches in the NBA.

Despite injury issues with multiple players last season including stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Los Angeles Clippers still posted a winning record at 42-40.

Lue and the Clippers are expected to bounce back during the 2022-23 NBA season. The former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach has shown his ability to lead star power teams to the postseason while helping guide that team to one NBA championship and two additional NBA Finals.

6. Erik Spoelstra

Team: Miami Heat

The longtime Miami coach who has been with the Miami Heat organization since the 1997-98 NBA season continues to help guide the team to the postseason.

After putting a run together that matches some of the best coaches in NBA history from 2010 to 2014, Spoelstra guided the Heat on another deep run during the 2021-22 NBA season falling just short of reaching the NBA finals.

Since taking over as head coach the Heat have only two losing seasons with Spoelstra at the helm. Another NBA Championship could push Spoelstra high on the list of the best coaches in the NBA.

5. Nick Nurse

Team: Toronto Raptors

Coming in at number five on the Top 10 NBA Coaches 2022 rankings list is the Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse. If this was just a few short seasons ago Nurse would be as high as possible number two on the list as one the top NBA coaches entering the 2022-23 NBA Season.

However, despite falling to number six on the list, Nurse has built an impressive resume including leading the Toronto Raptors to their first NBA Championship in just his first NBA season as head coach back in 2018-19.

Over his four NBA seasons, the Raptors have put together three winning seasons while Nurse has compiled a career record of 186-122 while going 25-16 in the postseason.

4. Jason Kidd

Team: Dallas Mavericks

Despite entering just his second season as the Dallas Mavericks head coach, high expectations are set forth for Jason Kidd after the strong run to the Western Conference finals last season.

Kidd, who helped guide the Mavericks to a 52-30 overall record made changes on the fly while helping to get the most out of Luka Doncic.

Despite trading away Kristaps Porzingis before the All-Star trade deadline, the Mavericks were still able to play at a high level the entire season including posting a 9-9 record within the NBA playoffs.

3. Gregg Popovich

Team: San Antonio Spurs

Possibly the best coach if not one of the greatest coaches in the History of the NBA, Greg Popovich continues to be well deserving of the top three spot.

Popovich, the same head coach that helped build the Spurs dynasty, has struggled to build around lineups that did not feature three All-Star caliber players.

However, the long-time Spurs head coach continues to win games and any season he has the potential to guide the Spurs on a deep playoff run. During the 2021-22 NBA season, Popovich surpassed Don Nelson with the most all-time regular season wins.

2. Monty Williams

Team: Phoenix Suns

After guiding the Phoenix Suns to the best record in the NBA it is easy to see why Monty Williams is highly regarded among the best coaches in the NBA and won the Coach of the Year award.

The All Star Game Coach, who took over before the start of the 2019-20 NBA Seasons has led the Suns to the playoffs in each of the past two seasons and a Western Conference Championship during the 2020-21 NBA season.

High expectations are set forth for the Suns as they look to gain on an impressive 64-18 overall record last season.

1. Steve Kerr

Team: Golden State Warriors

All the Golden State Warriors do is win NBA Titles and dominate nearly year in and year out. At least that is the case when the team has their stars on the floor and Steve Kerr as the head coach.

Since arriving with the Warriors during the 2014-15 NBA Season, the Warriors have gone on to win four NBA Championships and make the playoffs in six of eight seasons.

While the Warriors are loaded with talent, it also takes great coaching to keep a roster filled with All-Stars working together from the first game of the season to the final whistle of the NBA Finals.

Kerr has a chance to continue to build on his strong NBA coaching resume while moving up the All-Time head coaching rankings.

How would you rank these National Basketball Coaches this past 2022 NBA Season?
