Ranking the best Latino Basketball Players in the NBA of 2022 in Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month

The NBA continues to evolve as Latin American Basketball players and players from all around the world continue to pick up the sport, make a name for themselves, and enter the league.

While the majority of the league is built from players from the United States, many other countries including Latino countries are slowly developing NBA talent that is finding their way into the game.

While other sports including both baseball and soccer have a higher quantity of Latino players, the NBA does have a few filling out their rosters. Here is an opportunity to look at the Top 10 NBA Latino Players 2021-22 rankings.

Headlining the list of the top Latino NBA players is the veteran big man Al Horford who has continued to be a solid player year in and year out.

Meanwhile other top Latino basketball players include the future NBA Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony, young 2021 NBA first round draft pick Chris Duarte of the Indiana Pacers, and veteran versatile big man Brook Lopez. Here is a look at the Top 10 NBA Latino Players 2021-22 Rankings list in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month

Leandro Bolmaro

Team(s): Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz

Landing just outside of the Top 10 NBA Latino Players 2021-22 rankings is the Utah Jazz small forward Leandro Bolmaro.

Bolmaro who was originally drafted by the New York Knicks before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves prior to the start of the 2021-22 NBA season.

As a rookie for the Timberwolves, Bolmaro averaged 6.9 minutes per game over the course of 35 games. Over that stretch the Argentina native averaged 1.4 points per game to go along with 1.2 rebounds and just under an assist per game.

Gabriel Deck

Team(s): Oklahoma City Thunder, Free Agent

As the NBA continues to see an increase in Latino players, the list of the top Latino basketball players will continue to grow.

One player who has been at the front of the international basketball landscape for many years is the Oklahoma City Thunder forward Gabriel Deck.

Deck, who made his international scene in 2013 at the Hooks Summit presented by Nike, made his NBA debut last season while averaging just over two points per game to go along with nearly one rebound.

While Deck has yet to get a full-time spot in the NBA he continues to play at a high level for Real Madrid in the Liga ACB and Euro League.

Top 10 NBA Latino Players

10. Didi Louzada

Team(s): Portland Trail Blazers, Free Agent

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 NBA Latino Players 2021-22 rankings list is the current Portland Trail Blazers guard Didi Louzada.

Louzada, who is from Cachoeiro de Itapemirim in Brazil was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks during the 2nd round of the 2019 NBA Draft before being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. 

After a slow start with the Pelicans in the 2021-2022 NBA season, Louzada was dealt to the Trail Blazers. Down the stretch, Louzada would average five points a game to go along with 2.1 rebounds in limited playing time for his new team. 

9. Juancho Hernangomez

Team(s): Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs & Utah Jazz

The former 1st round pick during the 2016 NBA draft has bounced around since entering the NBA including spending time with three different teams during the 2021-22 NBA schedule.

For the Latino NBA basketball player those teams included the Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs before landing with the Utah Jazz.

Over the season Hernangomez averaged 3.3 points to go along with 2.5 rebounds. However, his production picked up with the Jazz where he averaged 6.2 points per game to go along with 3.5 rebounds leading to him signing a new deal for the upcoming NBA season with the Toronto Raptors.

8. Juan Toscano-Anderson

Team(s): Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers

Despite failing to get drafted during the 2015 NBA Draft, Juan Toscano-Anderson made the best of his basketball days playing in the Liga Nicional de Baloncesto Professional (LNBP) league before signing on with the Santa Cruz Warriors.

After a slow start to his NBA career, Toscano-Anderson saw his workload pick up during the 2021-22 NBA season for the Warriors appearing in 73 games over the course of the season.

Over that stretch, the Warriors shooting guard/small forward averaged 4.1 points per game to go along with 2.4 rebounds and nearly two assists per game (1.7 apg). 

7. Facundo Campazzo

Team(s): Denver Nuggets

The former Euro League champion and Spanish League champion, Facundo Campazzo has built up a solid international basketball resume.

A resume that includes multiple MVPs and First-Team selections. His international performance landed him a multi-year contract with the Denver Nuggets during the 2020-21 NBA season. 

Over the course of the 2021-22 NBA season, Campazzo appeared in 65 games with the Nuggets averaging 5.1 points per game to go along with 1.4 rebound and 3.4 assists per contest. The Nuggets point guard is one of multiple Latino players playing the NBA from Argentina.

6. Raul Neto

Team(s): Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers

The Brazilian born NBA player has seen himself bounce around since being selected in the second round of the 2013 NBA draft.

Over the past two seasons, Raul Neto has been a member of the Washington Wizards team playing the point guard position.

In 70 games last season for the Wizards, Neto averaged 7.5 points per game to go along with 3.1 assists and 1.6 rebounds per contest.

5. Willy Hernangomez

Team(s): New Orleans Pelicans

After bouncing around the NBA, Willy Hernangomez has landed a home with the New Orleans Pelicans where he has spent the parts of the past two seasons appearing in 97 combined NBA games over that stretch.

Last season Hernangomez was a key contributor on the Pelicans roster that made a stretch run to the postseason.

Over the course of the season the Pelicans big man averaged 9.1 points per game to go along with 6.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while supplying solid defensive contributors down low.

4. Brook Lopez

Team(s): Milwaukee Bucks

The native Cuban Brook Lopez has been a staple of the NBA since arriving with the New Jersey Nets during the 2008 NBA Draft.

Since then, Lopez has won an NBA Championship with the Milwaukee Bucks, made the 2013 NBA All-Star team, and was a member of the 2009 NBA All-Rookie team.

Last season with the Bucks, Lopez averaged 12.4 points per game to go along with 4.1 rebounds while providing solid play before suffering a back injury that would shut him down for the remainder of the regular season. Lopez would return in the post season to average 10.6 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game.

3. Carmelo Anthony

Team(s): Los Angeles Lakers, Free Agent

Landing at number three on the Top 10 NBA Latino Players 2021-22 rankings list is the long time NBA All-Star and potential Basketball Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony.

The 10-time NBA All-Star and former NCAA Champion is of Puerto Rican descent by his father. Prior to the start of the 2021-22 NBA season, Anthony elected to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers while teaming up with his long-time friend LeBron James.

The Lakers forward would average 13.3 points per game to go along with 4.2 rebounds and one assists per contest and will go down as one of the best players in NBA History

2. Chris Duarte

Team(s): Indiana Pacers

The former 13th overall draft pick during the 2021 NBA Draft is slowly becoming a household name within the Indiana Pacers organization as well as around the NBA.

Duarte, who grew up in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic played his college basketball with the Oregon Ducks prior to being drafted by the Pacers.

As a rookie Duarte averaged 13. Points per game to go along with 4.1 rebound and 2.1 assists while being named to the NBA All-Rookie Second team.

1. Al Horford

Team(s): Boston Celtics

Landing at the top of the Top 10 NBA Latino Players 2021-22 rankings list is the long time NBA All-Star Al Horford.

Horford who was drafted in the 1st round of the 2007 NBA Draft has built a strong NBA resume including five NBA All-Star selections, one NBA All-Rookie First team selection and multiple trips to the postseason.

In 69 games with the Celtics last season, Horford averaged 10.2 points per game to go along with 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.3 blocked shots per game while helping the Celtics to the NBA playoffs. During the postseason Horford would average 12 points per game to go along with 9.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest.
