Ranking the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Players 2023 Rankings as Zach Edey remains number 1 in the Basketball NCAA Power Rankings

The 2022-23 NCAA Basketball schedule has wrapped up with an exciting National Championship Game capping off another memorable season. A season that saw so many teams compete at a high level during the regular season but more importantly during March Madness.

As you start to look at those talented NCAA basketball teams many are driven to success by at least one talented star while most of the top teams in the country feature some of the best basketball players in all of college basketball. With all that talent it is difficult to pinpoint just 10 players to land on the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Players 2023 rankings list.

One player that stands out is Zach Edey who recently took home the John Wooden Award as the top men’s basketball player from the past NCAA season. The Purdue Boilermakers junior center finished the season ranked in the top 10 in both scoring and rebounds.

Joining Edey on the list of the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball players Markquis Nowell from the Kansas State Wildcats, Brandon Miller of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Drew Timme of the Gonzaga Bulldogs, and Jalen Wilson of the Kansas Jayhawks. Here is a look at the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Players 2023 rankings list:

Honorable Mention

Antoine Davis

School: Detroit Mercy Titans

Previous Ranking: Unranked

Landing just outside of the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Players 2023 rankings list is the Detroit Mercy Titans guard Antoine Davis.

Davis finished the season leading all men’s basketball players in college basketball in scoring while averaging 28.2 points per game across the season.

In addition to his scoring, Davis finished the year averaging three rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while nearly passing Pete Maravich’s all-time scoring record.

Marcus Carr

School: Texas Longhorns

Previous Ranking: #9

Sometimes it is hard to see how good of a player someone is till you look back at the success of the team they played for. That is the case with the Texas Longhorns guard Marcus Carr who showcased his ability as one of the top guards in the country while also adding to his NBA Draft resume with his strong play in the NCAA Tournament.

Carr was an all-around great guard who could score (15.9 ppg), rebound (3.0 rpg), and find his open teammate with his ability to pass (4.1 apg).

10. Adama Sanogo

School: UConn Huskies

Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention #1

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Players 2023 rankings list is the UConn Huskies forward Adama Sanogo.

Sanogo, who is fresh off leading his Huskies team to their fifth National Championship ranks among the best forwards in the country while being solid on both ends of the floor.

The junior forward wrapped up his third season setting a career high in scoring while averaging 17.2 points per game. In addition, Sanogo added 7.7 rebounds per game to go along with 1.3 assists and nearly one blocked shot and one steal per contest.

9. Marcus Sasser

School: Houston Cougars

Previous Ranking: #7

The Houston Cougars senior guard showcased his ability to rank among college basketball’s top guards while leading the team to an impressive 2022-23 NCAA Basketball season.

Sasser and the Cougars remained ranked near the overall top spot on the AP Men’s Top 25 rankings all season while advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The future NBA Draft pick finished his senior season averaging 16.8 points per game to go along with 2.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. 

8. Azuolas Tubelis

School: Arizona Wildcats

Previous Ranking: #6

Coming off a solid sophomore season the Arizona Wildcats forward Azuolas Tubelis took another big stride forward during his junior season while propelling his name among some of the best forwards in college basketball.

Tubelis, who is from Vilnius, Lithuania set career highs in both scoring and rebounding during the 2022-23 NCAA Basketball season while guiding the team to the Pac-12 Tournament Championship.

The Wildcats forward finished the season averaging 19.8 points per game to go along with 9.1 rebounds, two assists and 1.1 steals per game. 

7. Oscar Tshiebwe

School: Kentucky Wildcats

Previous Ranking: #5

One player who is expected to be a lottery draft pick during the 2023 NBA Draft is the Kentucky Wildcats senior forward Oscar Tshiebwe.

The Wildcats senior ranked among the best rebounders in the country over the past two seasons while finishing his senior season averaging 13.7 rebounds per game.

In addition, the Wildcats forward also averaged 16.5 points per game to go along with 1.6 assists. While solid on the offensive end of the floor, Tshiebwe was strong on the opposite end of the floor as well, averaging 1.6 steals and one blocked shot per game.

6. Trayce Jackson-Davis

School: Indiana Hoosiers

Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention #2

Another potential top 5-10 NBA Draft pick is the Indiana Hoosiers senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis who was one of five finalists for the John Wooden Award.

Jackson-Davis led the Hoosiers to a 23-12 record and a second-place finish in the Big Ten Conference during the regular season while earning a 4th seed during the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Jackson-Davis who is from Greenwood, Indiana finished off his career with the Hoosiers averaging 20.9 points per game to go along with 10.8 rebounds, four assists, 2.9 blocked shots and nearly one steal per game. 

5. Jalen Wilson

School: Kansas Jayhawks

Previous Ranking: #4

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Players 2023 rankings list is the Kansas Jayhawks forward Jalen Wilson. Wilson, who posted his third straight season averaging at least 28 minutes per game for the Jayhawks was a key part of the team’s stride to repeat as National Champions.

Despite coming up short Wilson posted a strong junior season for the Jayhawks while setting a career high in scoring averaging 20.1 points per game and rebounds averaging 8.3 rebounds per game. Wilson finished the season ranked 26th in scoring and 77th in rebounding in the nation.

4. Markquis Nowell

School: Kansas State Wildcats

Previous Ranking: Unranked

A new name among the best NCAA Men’s Basketball players who has gone under the radar most of the season is Markquis Nowell of the Kansas State Wildcats.

Over the years the guard position has showcased their ability to carry their teams deep in the season and the NCAA Tournament. That is exactly what Nowell did for the Wildcats helping the team reach the Elite 8.

Over the teams final three games Nowell averaged over 25 points per game including a 30 point and 12 assist performance in a difficult 79-76 loss to Florida Atlantic. Overall Nowell finished the season averaging 17.6 points per game to go along with 8.3 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

3. Drew Timme

School: Gonzaga Bulldogs

Previous Ranking: #3

After electing to return for his senior season for the Gonzaga Bulldogs, Drew Time continued to demonstrate his ability to rank among the games best forwards night in and night out.

Timme finished the season ranked 14th in the Nation in scoring while averaging 21.2 point per game. The Bulldogs forward was dynamic on both ends of the floor while averaging 7.5 rebounds per game and one blocked shot.

In addition, the big man added the ability to not only score but find his open teammate all season long while averaging over three assists per game. Only question now will Timme return for another season rewarded due to the COVID-19 season or jump to the NBA?

2. Brandon Miller

School: Alabama Crimson Tide

Previous Ranking: #2

After leading the Alabama Crimson Tide on an amazing regular season run including the 2023 SEC Tournament Championship, it is hard not to see how exceptional of a basketball player Brandon Miller is.

Miller, who is just a freshman, ranked among the best freshmen in the country while also ranking among the best players in all of college basketball.

The Crimson Tide freshman forward finished the season averaging 18.8 points per game to go along with 8.2 rebounds per game while also adding nearly one blocked shot and one steal per game as well as 2.1 assists per game. The star forward has announced he will be taking his talent to the NBA while entering the 2023 NBA Draft.

1. Zach Edey

School: Purdue Boilermakers

Previous Ranking: #1

In at number one on the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Players 2023 rankings list is the John Wooden Award winner Zach Edey. Edey who has not made a decision on whether to return for his senior season for the Purdue Boilermakers or enter the 2023 NBA Draft is coming off a spectacular junior season.

The Boilermakers center finished ranked sixth in the Nation in scoring while averaging 22.3 points per game and second in the Nation in rebounding while averaging 12.9 rebounds per game. In addition, Edey added 1.5 assists per game and 2.1 blocked shots per game while shooting 60.7 percent from the field.
