Top 10 College Basketball Point Guards 2022 Rankings
Ranking the best NCAA Point Guards of 2022 with names such as Scotty Pippen Jr., Antoine Davis, Caleb Love and more

The 2021-2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball schedule continues to roll along as the calendar approaches the final full week of January 2022. As Conference play moves along and conference tournaments get set the point guard position is as important as any of the positions on the floor.
As we have seen over the years, top tier play at the point guard position has played a key role in teams dominating down the stretch while making deep runs if not National Title Championships for their respective programs.
During the 2021 NCAA Basketball season a long list of stars have shined at the point guard position delivering high hopes for many solid programs across the country. Meanwhile, many of these top options continue to solidify themselves as potential top prospects for the upcoming 2022 NBA Draft. The group includes the likes of Antoine Davis, Scottie Pippen Jr, Max Abmas, Sahvir Wheeler and Collin Gillespie to name just a few.
With that said, here is our rankings of the Top 10 Best Point Guards in College Basketball in 2022.
Honorable Mention
Jahvon Quinerly
School: Alabama Crimson Tide
The junior point guard for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Jahvon Quinerly continues to shine this season through his first 19 games posting career highs in points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game and steals per game while averaging a career high 31.4 minutes per game.
With the play of Quinerly, the Crimson Tide has made big strides this season while playing to a 13-6 overall record. In the team’s five matchups against Top 25 ranked programs, the Crimson Tide point guard has scored no fewer than 14 points while averaging 16.6 points per game over the stretch while leading the team to a 4-1 mark against those programs.
Overall, Quinerly is averaging 14.8 points to go along with 3.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game this season.
Andre Curbelo
School: Illinois Fighting Illini
Another star in the rising at the point guard position is Andre Curbelo who is averaging 10.2 points a game to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per contests in limited action this season.
While Curbelo lands on this list more for his potential, he has shown at times this season in just six games he has the potential to take over a game. Now after missing more than a month of the season, Curbelo has returned to the floor of the Illinois Fighting Illini, while attempting to get healthy for a stretch run.
In his first game back, Curbelo scored 20 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists against a very solid Purdue Boilermakers team. For the Fighting Illini to make a run, Curbelo will need to continue that success.
Top 10 College Point Guards
10. Sahvir Wheeler
School: Kentucky Wildcats
Despite not putting together the performance and numbers he did a year ago, Sahvir Wheeler is still one of the top point guards in the country and one that can ultimately help the Kentucky Wildcats make a run in the SEC to finish the season and a good chance to lead his team to the Final Four.
Wheeler is averaging 10.8 points a game to go along with 2.1 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game this season. Over his last three contest has averaged 16.7 points a game to go along with four assists while leading the Wildcats to a 2-1 record including a key 107-79 win over 22nd ranked Tennessee.
9. Kennedy Chandler
School: Tennessee Volunteers
The Tennessee Volunteers have put together a terrific 2021-22 NCAA basketball campaign together after winning 13 of their first 18 games this season while landing within the AP Men’s Top 25 Rankings (18th).
Some of the team’s success comes from the point guard position where Kennedy Chandler has averaged 13.3 points a game to go along with 3.1 rebounds and nearly five assists per game (4.9).
At various times this season, Chandler has shown his ability to take over games including a 14 point, eight assists, and five rebound performance against 18th ranked North Carolina while also turning in a 27 point performance in the team’s 69-54 win against Colorado in the Jimmy V Classic championship game.
8. Will Richardson
School: Oregon Ducks
One name that will continue to move up the rankings at the point guard position is the Oregon Ducks senior point guard Will Richardson. Richardson, who is averaging 14.8 points a game to go along with 3.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists through the first 18 games, has been hot over the teams current six game winning streak.
Over that stretch, Richardson has posted over 21 in three of those six games while averaging 20 points a game. Since December 12th, Richardson has scored no fewer than 15 points a game while the team has gone 7-2 over that stretch.
7. Kyle Lofton
School: St. Bonaventure Bonnies
Entering the last week of January 2022, Kyle Lofton of the St. Bonaventure Bonnies is one point guard who may go under the radar but is as good as nearly anyone on the Top 10 College Basketball Point Guards in 2022 list.
Lofton is averaging 13.8 points a game to go along with 3.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
While Lofton has struggled at times since returning from an ankle injury, he showcased his abilities scoring at least 17 points in five of the team’s first six games including 22 points, four assists, and four rebounds in the team’s 68-65 win over the Clemson’s Tiger.
6. Caleb Love
School: North Carolina Tar Heels
The sophomore season guard from St. Louis, Missouri is playing at an extreme level for the North Carolina Tar Heels this season while posting a career high 14.6 points a game through the clubs first 18 contests.
To go along with the 14.6 points a game, Love is averaging 32.7 minutes a game while averaging 3.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. In addition to his playmaking abilities on the offensive side of the floor, Love is a tremendous defender who is averaging 1.4 steals per game.
In the year, Love has scored at least 22 points in five different contests including a 22 point performance in the team’s 72-51 win against 24th ranked Michigan Wolverines in the CBS Sports Classic.
5. Collin Gillespie
School: Villanova Wildcats
One point guard who should hear his name on draft night this year is the Villanova Wildcats senior Collin Gillespie. Gillespie, who has put together a stellar college career since arriving in 2017, is averaging 17.3 points a game to go along with 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contests this season.
Gillespie who was the Co Big East Player of the Year last year, has continued his success this season and is a key part of the Wildcats performance as they sit atop the Big East with a 14-5 record.
Over his last five contests, Gillespie has averaged 20.8 points a game to go along with 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists while leading the team to a 4-1 record.
4. Kendric Davis
School: SMU Mustangs
It is hard to look past Kendric Davis as one of the top overall point guards in all of College Basketball this season. The SMU Mustangs point guard ranks near the top 10 in points scored, rebounds and assists of all the point guards to play this season.
Through 18 games this season, Davis is averaging 21 points a game to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. On the year, Davis has posted at least 20 points in 10 different contests including scoring a season high 33 points in the team’s 90-72 win against UNM on December 19th, 2021.
Davis has the size and speed to get to the rim while also having the play making abilities to find his teammates and play aggressively on the glass.
3. Max Abmas
School: Oral Roberts Golden Eagles
While not many fans of College Basketball are paying attention to the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, the fans that have been able to witness one of the top point guards in all of the country take to the floor each game.
Max Abmas who is a junior this season is putting together a strong season in 2021-22 while averaging 22.6 points a game to go along with 3.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Abmas has shown at various times his ability to take over the game posting at least 30 points in four different games and at least 20 points in seven additional games.
2. Scotty Pippen Jr.
School: Vanderbilt Commodores
The son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, Scotty Pippen Jr is one of the Nation’s top point guards as he looks to lead the Vanderbilt Commodores on a postseason run before potentially leaving for the NBA.
Pippen Jr, who elected to return for school this season is averaging 18.1 points a game to go along with 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists while attempting to help Vanderbilt make a push in the SEC.
Pippen is a versatile guard who has the talent to run the team’s game plan while also having the ability to put together big time scoring performances. Despite his team struggles of late, Pippen Jr is a player you must watch when the Commodores are on.
1. Antoine Davis
School: Detroit Mercy Titans
The number one player on the Top 10 College Basketball Point Guards in 2022 list is the Detroit Mercy Titan’s senior Antoine Davis who continues to dominate on the floor despite the struggles of his team.
Davis is averaging a career high in points (24.4), rebounds (3.7) and assists (4.9) through the first 16 games this season. On the year Davis has posted two double doubles to go along with four 30 plus point performances while scoring at least 16 points in all 16 games to start the season.
