Ranking the best NCAA Power Forwards of 2023 with names such as Drew Timme, Kris Murray, and more

The 2022-23 NCAA Basketball schedule is heating up as mid-2023 has arrived. As teams around college basketball start to set their sights on the NCAA Tournament and what looks to be another great March Madness, NCAA players including the top power forwards continue to put in the work and dedication to be successful.
As you start to look around the landscape of college basketball during the ongoing 2022-23 NCAA season, a nice solid list of power forwards land on the Best Power Forwards in College Basketball 2023 Rankings
One name that lands at the top of the list of the best power forwards and a player looking to take home the Karl Malone award for the best power forward is the Gonzaga Bulldogs senior Drew Timme.
Timme, who elected to return for his senior season, is turning in another great season while keeping the Bulldogs hopes of a National Tournament run alive.
In addition to Timme the list of other top NCAA power forwards include Azuolas Tubelis of the Arizona Wildcats, Kris Murry of the Iowa Hawkeyes, and Trayce Jackson-Davis of the Indiana Hoosiers. Here is a look at the Top 10 NCAA Power Forward 2023 Rankings:
Honorable Mention
Justyn Mutts
School: Virginia Tech Hokies
One name that just missed landing on the Top 10 NCAA Power Forward 2023 Rankings list is the Virginia Tech Hokies senior Justyn Mutts.
Mutts, who is from Millville, New Jersey continues to put together his best season in college basketball this season.
Mutts is averaging a career high 13.3 points per game this season while also setting career high in assists while averaging 4.7 per game as well as 1.6 steals per game. In addition to those numbers, Mutts has posted six double doubles this season.
Jarace Walker
School: Houston Cougars
Another power forward missing the best power forward top 10 is the Houston Cougars talented freshman Jarace Walker.
Walker, who was a five-star recruit as well as the number two overall rated power forward before entering his freshman season has been strong for the Cougars this season.
Walker, who is from New Freedom, Pennsylvania is averaging 11.5 points per game this season to go along with 6.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists.
His play has gotten strong down the stretch averaging 17.2 pints per game over his last five including two 23 plus scoring performances.
Top 10 College Power Forwards
10. Norchad Omier
School: Miami Hurricanes
In at number 10 on the Top 10 NCAA Power Forward 2023 Rankings list is the Miami Hurricanes Norchad Omier. The sophomore power forward from Nicaragua has been strong all season for the Hurricanes.
In 25 games during the 2022-23 NCAA Men’s Basketball schedule, Omier has posted 14.1 points per game along with 10 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.4 blocked shots and one steal per game.
While the Hurricanes power forward has averaged a double double this season, he has also turned in 11 double doubles
9. Gregory (GG) Jackson II
School: South Carolina Gamecocks
The future looks bright for the South Carolina Gamecocks after landing one of the most talented freshman power forwards to arrive in college basketball this season.
That power forward is the top overall recruit at the power forward position and top overall recruit in the state of South Carolina Gregory Jackson II who was one of the top ranked five-star recruits entering school this season.
As a freshman this season Jackson II has averaged 15.7 points per game to go along with 6.2 rebounds while shooting 62.9 percent from the floor for the Gamecocks.
8. KJ Williams
School: LSU Tigers
One NCAA power forward continuing to build a strong basketball resume while building himself a solid NBA Draft resume is the LSU Tigers power forward KJ Williams.
Williams enters the final few weeks of the NCAA Basketball regular season averaging 16 points per game. In addition to his ability to score, Williams is shooting 42 percent from behind the three-point line this season.
On the defensive end of the floor Williams has been strong averaging 7.3 rebounds per game to go along with 1.3 steals per game and one blocked shot.
7. Enrique Freeman
School: Akron Zips
A name that might not ring the bells of every college basketball fan among the best power forwards in the game is the Akron Zips junior power forward Enrique Freeman.
Freeman, who has solid size, speed, and athleticism has displayed his full potential this season while being one of the Zips most consistent players on the hardwood.
His will and determination has paid off this season as Freeman is averaging a career high 15.3 points per game while also averaging career highs in assists (2.0 per game), steals (.6 per game), and rebounds (11.1 per game).
6. Deandre Williams
School: Memphis Tigers
Entering mid-2023, the Memphis Tigers have played solid basketball to start the season while winning 19 of their first 25 games to start the season while sitting second in the American Conference.
That success starts with the Tigers senior power forward Deandre Williams who has been strong all season long while setting career highs in scoring while averaging 17.5 points per game.
Williams is also averaging 8.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and nearly one blocked shot per game while building a strong NBA resume for the 2023 NBA Draft.
5. Josh Cohen
School: St. Francis Red Flash
Rounding out the top five on the Top 10 NCAA Power Forward 2023 Rankings list is the St. Francis Red Flash junior Josh Cohen.
Cohen, who doesn’t get the benefit or recognition while playing for a much smaller school, has been brilliant during the 2022-23 NCAA Basketball season. The Lincroft, New Jersey native is currently ranked 9th in college basketball while averaging 21.7 points per game.
The Red Flash big man is a terrific all-around player who can attack the glass while averaging eight rebounds per game while also playing solid defense averaging nearly one blocked shot and one steal per contest.
4. Kris Murray
School: Iowa Hawkeyes
Last season it was Keegan Murray, this season it is Kris Murray dominating the headlines as one of the top players in college basketball while ranking among the best power forwards in college basketball.
Kris, who is the identical brother of Keegan has stepped up big this season while setting career highs in scoring, rebounds, blocked shots, assists, and steals.
Currently Murray is averaging 21 points per game to go along with 8.5 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.2 blocked shots, and just under one steal per contest.
3. Trayce Jackson-Davis
School: Indiana Hoosiers
As you look around at the Big Ten conference the conference is loaded with talented basketball players as well as teams.
One of those teams is the Indiana Hoosiers which are currently ranked 18th in the Nation while Trayce Jackson-Davis has helped the team to a 16-7 record to start the season.
Jackson-Davis who is in his final season with the club while preparing for his name to be called during the NBA Draft is averaging 20.2 points per game this season to go along with 11.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
On the defensive end of the floor the Hoosiers power forward makes it difficult for opposing players to score while averaging three blocked shots per game.
2. Azuolas Tubelis
School: Arizona Wildcats
When it comes to the top two players on the list of the top college basketball power forward both Azuolas Tubelis of the Arizona Wildcats and Drew Timme of the Gonzaga Bulldogs are worth talking about.
In the end the Wildcats power forward lands at number two on the list of the Top 10 NCAA Power Forward 2023.
Currently, Tubelis is averaging 20.2 points per game to go along with 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.2 steals while shooting 58.2 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from behind the three-point line. In addition, Tubelis has turned in 11 double doubles while posting at least 25 points in seven different contests.
1. Drew Timme
School: Gonzaga Bulldogs
After electing to skip the 2022 NBA Draft, Drew Timme arrived back with the Gonzaga Bulldogs with the hopes of taking home a National Championship in 2022-22.
Timme is in the best season of his career after averaging at least 18.4 points in each of the previous two seasons.
The Bulldogs senior power forward is averaging 21.1 points per game this season, the most of his college career while also averaging 7.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and one blocked shot per game this season.
It is hard to look past the success and performance Timme has put together this season to make him the best power forward in college basketball.
