The game of football is built around momentum, big plays, and ultimately field position.

While offenses and defenses typically receive most if not all the credit of the outcome of a football game, kickers typically do not. That is especially said for any team’s punter including the top college football punters and the best punters in the NFL.

However, when you think about it, making a team drive 90, 95 and even 99 yards after pinning them with a beautiful, pinned punt is a game changer. That makes the Top 10 College Football Punters 2022-23 so valuable despite going under the radar.

As you start to look around college football the list of standout punters is strong with the next wave of future NFL punters just waiting in the wings.

Headlining the list of the best college football punters is Bryce Baringer of the Michigan State Spartans. Baringer led all punters while averaging 49 yards per punt during his 50 punts during the 2022-23 NCAA Football season.

Joining Baringer on the list includes Kyle Ulbrich of the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, Adam Korsak of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Ethan Evans of the Wingate Bulldogs, and Michael Turk of the Oklahoma Sooners. Here is a look at the Top 10 College Football Punters 2022-23 rankings list.

Tory Taylor

School: Iowa Hawkeyes

Just missing the Top 10 list of punters for the 2022-23 NCAA Football season was Tory Taylor of the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes punter has been extremely busy over the past two seasons posting 82 punts in 2022 and 80 punts in 2021.

Over the course of the 2022 season, Taylor averaged 45.4 yards per punt to go along with a net average of 41.6 yards per punt. In addition, Taylor recorded 39 punts inside of the 20-yard line.

Daniel Sparks

School: Virginia Cavaliers

Landing just outside of the Top 10 punters on the Top 10 College Football Punters 2022-23 rankings list is Daniel Sparks of the Virginia Cavaliers.

Sparks, who transferred to the Virginia Cavaliers before the start of the 2022 NCAA Football season finished the season strong while averaging nearly 46 yards per punt (45.9) while posting a net average of 27 yards per punt over his 47 punts for the Cavaliers this past season.

10. Jack Browning

School: San Diego State Aztecs

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 College Football Punters 2022-23 rankings list is the San Diego State Aztecs punter and kicker Jack Browning.

Browning, who did all the kicking for the Aztecs this season, nailed 20 field goals, posted 37 touchbacks on kickoffs, and averaged 46.1 yards per punt.

Nonetheless Browning ranked among the best punters in football while pinning 28 kicks inside the 20-yard line and recording 21 punts of at least 50 yards.

9. Eddie Czaplicki

School: Arizona State Sun Devils (USC Trojans Upcoming Season)

One name to mention among the best punters in college football is the former Arizona State Sun Devils sophomore punter Eddie Czaplicki.

Czaplicki, who is transferring to the USC Trojans for the 2023-24 NCAA Football season ranked among the best punters in punt yards and punts inside the 20-yard line.

The former Sun Devils punter averaged 46 yards per punt over the 2022 NCAA Football schedule while recording 15 punts inside the 20-yard line and 16 punts that traveled at least 50 yards.

8. Kai Kroeger

School: South Carolina Gamecocks

The South Carolina Gamecocks junior punter Kai Kroeger is coming off his best season of his college punting year while averaging a career high 46.1 yards per punt while also averaging 42.8 net yards per punt.

Named to the ESPN All-American list based on his performance, Kroeger continues to rank among the best punters in the nation while potentially having one additional season to add to his already strong career. Kroeger posted 18 punts of at least 50 yards while also posting 29 punts inside the 20-yard line.

7. Mason Fletcher

School: Cincinnati Bearcats

While many of the other top punters in college football are seniors while preparing for a potential to punt in the NFL, Mason Fletcher of the Cincinnati Bearcats is coming off just his second college football season.

The sophomore punter didn’t disappoint taking home the 2022 AAC Special Team’s Player of the Year while also being nominated as a finalist for the 2022 Ray Guy Award.

The Bearcats punter finished the season averaging 46.2 yards per punt while pinning opposing teams inside the 20-yard line 29 times as well as 10 times inside the 10-yard line.

6. Brad Robbins

School: Michigan Wolverines

The Big Ten is home to some of the top college football programs in all of college football with the Michigan Wolverines ranking among the best.

With their success on the football field the team has been able to land some very talented players including Brad Robbins. Robbins is coming off a stellar senior season averaging 42.3 yards per punt while pinning 16 punts inside of the 20-yard line and zero touchbacks while nearly 50 percent (48.8) of his punts were fair caught by opposing punt returners. His performance on the field earned him an invite to the NFL Draft combine.

5. Kyle Ulbrich

School: Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders

Rounding out the top five punters landing on the Top 10 College Football Punters 2022-23 rankings list is the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders punter Kyle Ulbrich.

The Blue Raiders punter has averaged at least 41 yards per punt in each of the past four seasons before recording a career high 47.1 yards per punt in his final college football season while ranking 2nd behind Bryce Baringer.

In addition, Ulbrich set a career high in net average per punt while averaging 42.5 net yards on each of his 67 punts this season.

4. Michael Turk

School: Oklahoma Sooners

Another one of the top punters in college football during the 2022-23 NCAA Football season was the Oklahoma Sooners punter Michael Turk.

Turk, who attended the 2020 NFL combine elected to return to the school and continue punting. Fast forward a few seasons and the Sooners punter ranks among the top punters and a candidate to land with an NFL team this summer.

Over the season Turk posted a 46.8 yard per punt mark this season while posting no less than 46 yards per punt in each of the past four college football seasons.

3. Ethan Evans

School: Wingate Bulldogs

Not that it is already hard enough for punters to get recognition, it is even harder when you play for a much smaller school such as the Wingate Bulldogs.

Nonetheless, it won’t hurt Ethan Evans potential to land on with an NFL team either during the 2023 NFL Draft or after. Evans, despite landing at number three on the list of the best punters in college football, was well deserving of the top spot.

The Bulldogs punter finished the season averaging 45.7 yards per punt with 39 punts landing inside of the 20-yard line while recording a season long of 66 yards.

2. Adam Korsak

School: Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Challenging for the spot as the best punter in college football, Adam Korsak put together another strong season while wrapping up his college career.

Korsak averaged 44 yards per punt with a net average punt of 43.6 yards. Overall, the Knights punter racked up 3,297 punt yards on 75 punts over the course of the 2022 NCAA Football season.

While his average yard per punt doesn’t match up to some of the other top punters, he ability to punt with accuracy and pin the other team inside of the 20 ranks among the best in college football. Korsak finished the 2022-23 NCAA Football season with 32 punts inside of the 20-yard line while averaging 44 yards per punt.

1. Bryce Baringer

School: Michigan State Spartans

In at number one on the Top 10 College Football Punters 2022-23 rankings list is the Michigan State Spartans punter and potential NFL Draft Pick Bryce Baringer.

Baringer capped off a strong punting career for the Spartans whole being selected as a Consensus All-American and First-team All-Big Ten based on his success on the football field.

The Spartans senior punter finished his season averaging 49 yards per punt while posting a 45.7 net yard per punt average while pinning 22 punts inside the 20 compared to just four touchbacks.
