Los Angeles Chargers

Pittsburgh Steelers

Record: 10-7, AFC North Champions

Steel City faithful had reason to celebrate when their beloved Steelers clinched the AFC North title with a gritty 10-7 record, a testament to Pittsburgh’s perennial identity as a blue-collar, hard-nosed football program.

The 10 wins also delivered Mike Tomlin another season without a losing season, a feat that his teams have accomplished since taking over the team back before the 2007 NFL Season. Defense remained the heartbeat of this team, generating pressure and forcing mistakes at a rate that made opposing offenses miserable. Overall the Steelers finished the season with an impressive 27 total forced turnovers and a strong +12 turnover differential.

However the team’s struggles on offense handicapped the team all season as well in the team’s 30-6 wild card round loss to the Houston Texans.

10. Philadelphia Eagles

11-6, NFC East Champions

The 49ers’ ability to stress defenses horizontally and vertically through motion, pre-snap manipulation, and elite route combinations made them a nightmare to prepare for. Christian McCaffrey continued to be a weapon impossible to take off the field, while the defensive front generated consistent chaos in opposing backfields.

Despite key injuries on both sides of the ball Shanahan’s squad found ways to win with both Brock Purdy and Mac Jones while averaging 351.4 yards of offense per game and 25.7 points per game. A healthy roster of the team’s stars all season last season the outcome may have been different for the 49ers.

8. Houston Texans

Record: 12-5, 2nd in NFC South

Few teams in the AFC played with more controlled ferocity than the Houston Texans, who parlayed a 12-5 record into the league’s most talked-about playoff run at the midway point of January.

Caleb Williams, the face of Chicago’s rebuild delivered a quarterback season that vindicated every ounce of the hype, threading tight windows with pinpoint accuracy and extending plays with athletic escapability that left defenders grasping at air. The Bears offense finished the season ranked sixth in the league in yards per game (369.2), third in rushing yards per game (144.5) and ninth in scoring (25.9).

While the offense was strong, the team’s defense was the backbone to their success forcing an NFL high 33 takeaways including a league high 23 interceptions during the regular season. Despite a difficult Divisional round loss to the Rams, the Bears showed the world they are back to compete.

6. Los Angeles Rams

Record: 12-5, 2nd in NFC West

Sean McVay’s offensive wizardry was on full display as the Los Angeles Rams carved through the regular season with a 12-5 record and the kind of scheme complexity that makes defensive coordinators lose sleep.

The success on defense didn’t stop there as the team allowed just 19.8 points per game while producing the second most takeaways (31) in the NFL. Jacksonville opened up the playoffs with a key win before falling to the Denver Broncos in the Divisional round of the playoffs.

3. Denver Broncos

Record: 14-3, AFC West Champions

The Mile High city has a football team worthy of its altitude again. The Denver Broncos 14-3 record was a statement from wire to wire, a dominant performance that saw Sean Payton’s offense hum with efficiency while a defense loaded with first-round talent made the AFC West a one-team race from October onward.

Bo Nix, in his second NFL season, silenced every doubter with a performance that ranked among the best in the NFL. On the defensive side of the ball the Broncos were as stingy as any team in the league allowing just 278.2 yards of offense and just 18.3 points per game.

Their overtime Divisional Round win over Buffalo (33-30) showcased their championship mettle, before New England’s 10-7 grinder in the AFC Championship ended their Super Bowl hopes. 

2. New England Patriots

Record: 14-3, AFC East Champions

Bill Belichick is gone, but the ghost of New England excellence has taken an entirely new form, and this New England Patriots team is something special.

Finishing 14-3 and capturing the AFC Championship was the culmination of a rebuild that stunned the football world. An MVP performance from second year quarterback Drake Maye helped pace the offense while the team’s defense allowed just 18.8 points per game during the regular season.

The success of Mayes to make the big play and their defense shutting down opponents helped pave their way to the Super Bowl. Despite falling 29-13 to the Seattle Seahawks, the Patriots were one of the biggest surprises this season.

Record: 14-3, Super Bowl Champions

Darnold along with a talented offensive roster that featured Jaxson Smith-Njigba and Kenneth Walker posted a staggering 28.4 points per game and 351.4 yards of offense per game. Meanwhile their impressive defense under second year head coach Mike Macdonald forced 25 takeaways while allowing a league low 17.2 points per game.

Everything clicked in the Pacific Northwest this year, as Seattle authored one of the most dominant postseason runs in recent memory en route to the Super Bowl title.
