While the Chiefs and Eagles are both heading to the Super Bowl, each finished the regular season with the best regular season record after winning 14 of their 17 games.
As each of those teams finished the season with 14 wins, seven additional teams posted at least 10 wins including the Buffalo Bills who posted 13 wins.
Other teams landing on the list at the end of the year Top 10 NFL teams list for the 2022 NFL season include the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Chargers. Here is a look at the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 End of Season Rankings.
Honorable Mention
Miami Dolphins
Record: 9-8
Previous Ranking: #9
Just missing the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 End of Season Rankings list is the Miami Dolphins who finished in second place of the AFC East division.
While the Dolphins finished with just an 9-8 record during the regular season, the team was better than advertised including when Tua Tagovailoa was healthy and not dealing with concussion issues.
Leading the charge on the offensive side of the ball was one of the best 1-2 combinations at wide receiver in the NFL with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle that made it difficult for opposing teams to slow down.
Despite the talent, losing Tagovailoa for periods of time and his ability to make a play limited the team’s success down the stretch as well as in the 2022 NFL Playoffs.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Record: 9-8
Previous Ranking: Unranked
Questions and more questions continued to arise early during the 2022 NFL schedule on whether or not Trevor Lawrence was the quarterback of the future.
Despite the slow start, Lawrence and the Jaguars were strong down the stretch after falling to a 4-8 mark on the season.
The Jaguars would go on a run with a strong defense and a much-improved offense while winning five straight games to help them secure a playoff spot as well as the AFC South division crown.
On the defensive side of the ball the Jaguars finished allowing the 12th fewest number of points per game (20.6 ppg), while their offense ranked 10th among all NFL teams in scoring (23.8 ppg)
Top 10 Best NFL Team Rankings
10. New York Giants
Record: 9-7-1
Previous Ranking: #10
Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 End of Season Rankings list is the New York Giants. The Giants, who were one of three teams to reach the 2022 NFL Playoffs from the NFC East Division, were an overall strong football team on both sides of the football.
Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley helped carry their offensive performance while their defense was a stingy team around the NFL.
The team’s success came from managing and protecting the football where Daniel Jones threw for 3,205 yards with 15 touchdowns to just five interceptions.
Meanwhile Jones and Barkley combined to rush for 2,020 yards with 17 rushing touchdowns while losing just one fumble.
9. Los Angeles Chargers
Record: 10-7
Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention #1
As injuries hampered the Los Angeles Chargers during the 2022 NFL schedule, the team still found a way to compete in what was expected to be the most difficult division in the NFL.
The Chargers finished the regular season winning 10 of their 17 contests while posting a 7-5 record against teams within the AFC Conference.
Leading the team’s success was star quarterback Justin Herbert who helped the team finish the regular season 9th in yards per game (359.3) while averaging 23 points per game.
Herbert would finish the season throwing for 4,739 yards with 25 touchdowns while running back Austin Ekeler was dynamic in both the running and passing game.
8. Baltimore Ravens
Record: 10-7
Previous Ranking: #8
Another team battered by the injury bug for a second straight season was the Baltimore Ravens who lost former MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson to a knee injury while also losing J.K. Dobbins for an extended period of time as well.
Despite not having Jackson down the stretch the Ravens found a way to secure an AFC Wild Card spot and was just one play away from knocking off division rivals the Cincinnati Bengals within the NFL Playoffs.
The Ravens used a solid running attack down the stretch with Dobbins, while the acquisition of Raquan Smith turned the Ravens defense into one of the top units within the NFL.
7. Minnesota Vikings
Record: 13-4
Previous Ranking: #3
Anytime you win 13 games as an NFL team you have to be a good or should say great NFL team. For the Minnesota Vikings however the 2022 NFL season was a roller coaster of a ride that saw Kirk Cousins and the offense come back over and over to win games including coming back from being down by over 30 points at half time.
On the defensive side of the football the Vikings finished the season with the eighth most takeaways (25) while the team offense ranked 8th in scoring averaging 24.9 points per game.
During the regular season the Vikings knocked off the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, and New York Giants. Each of those teams finished the regular season with a winning record.
6. Dallas Cowboys
Record: 12-5
Previous Ranking: #5
For most of the season the AFC looked to be a two-team race between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. In the end the Eagles took home the NFC East title while the Cowboys finished the season with a 12-5 record.
The Cowboys were loaded on the offensive side of the football while also ranking among the best teams in the NFL in points differential (+125).
Led by Dak Prescott the Cowboys offense finished the season ranked 4th in the NFL in points per game (27.5), 11th in total yards per game (354.9), and 9th in rushing yards per game (135.2).
Meanwhile the team’s defense led by Micah Parsons allowed just 20.1 points per game while forcing an NFL high 33 turnovers.
5. San Francisco 49ers
Record: 13-4
Previous Ranking: #6
Rounding out the top five teams on the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 End of Season Rankings is the San Francisco 49ers.
When you start to look at how good of a team the 49ers had it all started with how they were built on the offensive side of the ball to recover from losing Trey Lance to a season ending injury as well as Jimmy Garoppolo turning to Brock Purdy to make a run at the end of the season.
While the offense recovered the 49ers defense helped carry the team posting a league high turnover differential mark (+13) while forcing 30 turnovers.
Meanwhile Nick Bosa turned in a Defensive Player of the Year type season finishing with 18.5 sacks, 19 tackles for a loss, and two forced fumbles.
4. Buffalo Bills
Record: 13-3
Previous Ranking: #4
Finishing the regular season with the second-best record in football trailing only the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, the Buffalo Bills were as good as any team in the NFL.
On the offensive side of the ball the team led by Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen was as explosive as any team while their defense ranked among the best in multiple defensive statistics.
Led by Allen and Diggs, the Bills finished the season averaging the 2nd most points per game (28.4) and 2nd most yards per game (397.6).
On the defensive side of the ball the team allowed the 2nd fewest number of points per game (17.9), 6th fewest number of yards per game (319.1), and the 4th most takeaways (27).
3. Cincinnati Bengals
Record: 12-4
Previous Ranking: #7
It is hard not to like the Cincinnati Bengals as one of the best teams in the NFL as they are built around a very strong offense that can score and a solid defense.
When healthy the Bengals with Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins, Joe Mixon, and Ja’Marr Chase are as explosive as any team in the NFL.
The Bengals offense finished the season ranked 7th in the NFL while averaging 26.1 points per game to go along with 360.5 yards per game.
On the defensive side of the football the Bengals finished the season tied for 5th in fewest points allowed per game (20.1) while also allowing the 7th fewest rushing yards per game (106.6).
2. Kansas City Chiefs
Record: 14-3
Previous Ranking: #2
Super Bowl Betting Odds: +105
When the season wrapped up the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs each finished the season with identical records while both are well deserving of the top spot.
In the end only one team can land at the top with the Kansas City Chiefs landing at number two. Despite losing Tyreek Hill before the season in a trade, the Chiefs offense was as good as advertised while Patrick Mahomes put together an MVP caliber season at quarterback.
The Chiefs finished the season ranked 1st in scoring the NFL averaging 29.2 points per game while also ranking 1st in yards per game with 413.6 yards per contests.
With Mahomes throwing for 5,250 yards to go with 41 touchdowns the Chiefs high powered offense led them to the best record in the NFL.
1. Philadelphia Eagles
Record: 14-3
Previous Ranking: #1
Super Bowl Betting Odds: -125
Landing atop the Top 10 NFL Teams 2022 End of Season Rankings list is the Philadelphia Eagles. While they finished with an identical record as the Kansas City Chiefs, the Eagles were dominant on all sides of the football while ranking 3rd in scoring (28.1 ppg) and their defense posted the 5th most takeaways (27).
In addition, the team’s success at protecting the football while also forcing turnovers led to the 3rd highest turnover differential in the NFL (+8).
This success led to the team having the second highest point differential mark in the NFL while outscoring their opponents by 133 points.
The move to land A.J. Brown in the offseason delivered the Eagles one of the best 1-2 wide receiver duos in the NFL while their defense featured four different players with at least 11 sacks.
