The success of any NFL team starts up front with the constructing and success of their offensive and defensive lines. In today’s NFL teams have focused on building high powered offenses that have the ability to put up 30 plus points a game.

With this focus, the team must have a strong offensive line including at both of the offensive tackle positions. In addition to success of the offense, top tier offensive tackles protect the quarterbacks from the edge position.

As you look at the Top 10 NFL Offensive Tackles 2023 Rankings list, each of these offensive tackles help solidify their team’s offense.

Headlining the list of the best offensive tackles in the NFL heading into the 2023 NFL schedule is the San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams.

Williams is coming off his second straight First-Team All-Pro selection at the left tackle position while pushing his Pro Bowl selections to 10 since arriving in the NFL during the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Joining Williams among the best offensive tackles in the NFL includes Tristan Wirfs of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lane Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles, Laremy Tunsil of the Houston Texans, and Andrew Thomas of the New York Giants. Here is a look at the Top 10 NFL Offensive Tackles 2023 Rankings list.

Honorable Mention

Kolton Miller

Team: Las Vegas Raiders

Position: Left Tackle

Landing just outside of the Top 10 NFL Offensive Tackles 2023 Rankings list is the Las Vegas Raiders left tackle Kolton Miller. After starting his NFL career at the right tackle position upon being selected by the Raiders with the 15th overall pick during the 2018 NFL Draft, Miller has slowly transitioned into one of the top left tackles in the NFL.

Miller is coming off his third consecutive season posting at least an 81 grade from PFF in pass blocking while posting an overall 84.1 grade combining both pass blocking and run blocking. In addition, the Raiders finished the season ranked 6th in the NFL in yards per rushing attempt averaging 4.8 yards per carry.

Penei Sewell

Team: Detroit Lions

Position: Right Tackle

Coming off a strong second year in the NFL, Penei Sewell of the Detroit Lions is blossoming into one of the best right tackles in the NFL in 2023.

The former Oregon Ducks offensive tackle is coming off his first Pro Bowl selection after putting together a strong performance during the 2022 NFL season.

Sewell posted 1,142 total snaps during the 2022 NFL allowing just two total sacks over that stretch while posting an 80.6 overall grade according to PFF while also posting the 4th best run blocking grade among all right tackles.

Top 10 NFL Offensive Tackles

10. Ryan Ramczyk

Team: New Orleans Saints

Position: Right Tackle

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 NFL Offensive Tackles 2023 Rankings list is the New Orleans Saints right tackle Ryan Ramczyk.

Since arriving in the NFL before the start of the 2017 NFL season after being selected during the first round of the 20107 NFL Draft, Ramczyk continues to develop into one of the top right tackles in the NFL.

After earning a selection to the All-Rookie team in 2017, the Saints right tackle has earned two Second-Team All-Pro selections and one First-Team All-Pro selection. Over the course of the 2022 NFL season, the Saints tackle allowed just three sacks over 936 snaps played at the right tackle position.

9. Jordan Mailata

Team: Philadelphia Eagles

Position: Left Tackle

It is nearly impossible to not include both offensive tackles of the Philadelphia Eagles on the list after the performance the offense put together in 2022.

The Eagles finished the season ranked 5th in the NFL in rushing yards with 2,509 yards, 1st in the NFL in rushing touchdowns with 32, 3rd in total yards with 6,614, and 3rd in points scored per game posting 28.1 per game.

With this success Jordan Mailata lands on the list of the best offensive tackles joining teammate Lane Johnson while forming one of the best offensive tackle tandems in the NFL. Last season Mailata posted 1,024 snaps across the season to go with a 76.5 overall grade according to PFF.

8. Ronnie Stanley

Team: Baltimore Ravens

Position: Left Tackle

When looking at the success of the Baltimore Ravens over the years including the improvement last season, Ronnie Stanley has been a consistent part of that success.

However, after missing nearly all of the 2021 NFL season Stanley returned at a high level during the 2022 NFL season helping the Ravens offense to improve both in the passing game as well as the run game with him on the field.

The Ravens finished the season ranked 2nd in the NFL in rushing yards per game averaging 160 yards per game. Over the course of 602 snaps last season Stanley accumulated just one penalty while allowing just one sack.

7. Rashawn Slater

Team: Los Angeles Chargers

Position: Left Tackle

Entering his third NFL season, Rashawn Slater ranks among the best left tackles in the NFL while playing on one of the most explosive offenses in the league.

As a rookie Slater posted a stellar rookie season including being named as a Second-Team All-Pro selection while also making a Pro Bowl team.

Slater was off to a fast start last season but a bicep injury during the Chargers week 3 contest landed him on the IR and limited him to just two total games played. Slater will look to enter the 2023 NFL season healthy while returning to the quality of play he produced prior to his injury.

6. Christian Darrisaw

Team: Minnesota Vikings

Position: Left Tackle

Success of any offense starts with their play up front on the offensive line and the Minnesota Vikings have one of the best lines in the NFL.

One of those key contributors is the team’s left tackle Christian Darrisaw. Darrisaw finished the 2022 NFL season ranked 3rd among left tackles in run blocking with a 90.6 grade as well as 8th in pass blocking with an 82.4 grade according to PFF.

The Vikings offense finished the season ranked 7th in the NFL averaging 361.5 yards per game, 6th in the NFL in passing yards per game with 263.8, and 8th in the NFL in scoring averaging 24.9 points per game. Over the course of 853 Snaps, the Vikings left tackle allowed five sacks to go along with only two penalties collected.

5. Tristan Wirfs

Team: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Position: Left Tackle

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 NFL Offensive Tackles 2023 Rankings list is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers left tackle Tristan Wirfs. It is hard to look past Wirfs as one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL while also ranking him among the best left tackles.

Since being drafted by the Buccaneers during the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Wirfs has been brilliant on the offensive line posting two Pro Bowl selections to go along with one First-Team All-Pro selection in 2021 and Second-Team All-Pro selection during the 2022 NFL season.

Wirfs is coming off his third consecutive pass blocking grade of at least 82 during last season while allowing just six quarterback pressures to go along with allowing only two sacks.

4. Laremy Tunsil

Team: Houston Texans

Position: Left Tackle

One of the bright spots among the Houston Texans roster is the team’s starting left tackle Laremy Tunsil. Tunsil is coming off another strong season at the left tackle position while earning his third Pro Bowl selection after allowing just one sack over 1,061 snaps played during the 2022 NFL season.

In addition to allowing just one sack, the Texans left tackle finished with the highest pass blocking grade among all left tackles and allowed just three hits over the course of the season.

3. Andrew Thomas

Team: New York Giants

Position: Left Tackle

As the 2023 NFL season approaches Andrew Thomas of the New York Giants slides in at number three among the best offensive tackles in the NFL.

The former Georgia Bulldogs offensive tackle is slowly developing into one of the best left tackles in the NFL. As he enters his 4th season in the NFL expectations are set high for Thomas to take another step forward while helping to improve the overall play of the team’s offense.

The Giants finished last season ranked 4th in the NFL while averaging 148.2 yards rushing yards per game. Thomas finished ranked among the top ten in both pass blocking (89.9) and run blocking (81).

2. Lane Johnson

Team: Philadelphia Eagles

Position: Right Tackle

Coming off his second First-Team All-Pro selection during his 2022 NFL season, Lane Johnson enters the 2023 NFL season competing to be ranked as the best offensive tackle in the NFL.

A case could be made that Johnson warrants consideration as the number one offensive tackle based on the success the Philadelphia Eagles had during last season.

The Eagles finished in the top five in scoring (28.1 ppg), rushing yards (147.6 rpg), and total yards per game (389.1 ypg). Over 972 snaps last season Johnson allowed no sacks and quarterback hits from week 1 of the 2022 NFL season to the Super Bowl.

1. Trent Williams

Team: San Francisco 49ers

Position: Left Tackle

In at number one on the Top 10 NFL Offensive Tackles 2023 Rankings list is the San Francisco 49ers First-Team All-Pro selection Trent Williams.

Williams, who is coming off back-to-back First-Team selections, will enter the upcoming 2023 NFL season ranked as the best offensive tackle in the NFL as well as the best left tackle in the NFL.

The 49ers tackle is looking to build on his 93.0 player grade handed out by PFF last season while also improving on allowing just one sack and two quarterback hits during both the NFL regular season and NFL Playoffs.
