The 2024 National Football League off-season is slowly wrapping up with a large number of the top NFL free agents signed and the 2024 NFL Draft in the books. As rookie mini camps get set to kick off followed by other team training camps, the excitement around the upcoming 2024 NFL season is slowly starting to build. After an exciting first day of the 2024 NFL draft that featured six quarterbacks selected, the emphasis on the quarterback position continues to be at the highest point for most if not all the 32 NFL teams. One team that does not have to worry about finding their future quarterback is the Kansas City Chiefs who are led by Patrick Mahomes who currently sits atop the Top 10 NFL Quarterback 2024 Rankings.

Since taking over as the starting quarterback for the Chiefs during the 2018 NFL season after appearing in just one game as a rookie in 2017, Mahomes has produced a career record of 74-22 during the regular season to go along with an 15-3 post season record while winning three Super Bowl Championships along the way.

In addition to helping the Chiefs win three titles, Mahomes has earned a lengthy list of individual honors and awards including winning three Super Bowl MVP Awards. As Mahomes continues to rank among the best quarterbacks in the NFL, the group behind him is loaded with talent and playmaking abilities.

A group that includes Justin Herbert of the San Diego Chargers, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys.

Here is a look at the Top 10 NFL Quarterback 2024 Rankings:

Honorable Mention

Tua Tagovailoa

Team: Miami Dolphins

Just missing the Top 10 NFL Quarterback 2024 Rankings list is the Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins quarterback can sling the football with the best of them while finishing the season leading the NFL in passing yards with 4,624 to go along with 29 touchdowns.

However, concerns with turnovers including throwing a career high 14 interceptions and losing 13 fumbles hampers him down among the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

On a positive note, Tagovailoa is coming off a healthy season finishing 17 games delivering promise entering the 2024 NFL season.

Kirk Cousins

Team: Atlanta Falcons

One big question mark at the quarterback entering the 2024 NFL season is the Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.

When healthy Cousins has displayed his passing abilities while ranking among the leaders in passing yards and passing touchdowns including through eight games last season before going down with an Achilles injury.

Cousins, who will make the move to the Atlanta Falcons for the upcoming season, arrives with a strong offensive roster that features talented sophomore running back Bijan Robinson, tight end Kyle Pitts as well as wide receiver Drake London.

Expectations entering training camps and summer workouts is Cousins is expected to be 100 percent to open up the start of the 2024 season.

Top 10 NFL Quarterback 2024 Rankings

10. Jared Goff

Team: Detroit Lions

Sliding in at number 10 on the Top 10 NFL Quarterback 2024 Rankings list is the Detroit Lions starting quarterback Jared Goff.

The former first overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft has put together a strong career passing for 30, 429 yards to go along with 185 touchdown passes while completing 64.7 percent of his passes.

With a loaded group of weapons including talented wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and tight end Sam LaPorta, Goff posted his second 30 passing touchdown season while finishing fourth in the NFL.

In addition to that success Goff finished the season ranked second in passing yards (4,575) and seventh in completion percentage with a 67.3 mark.

9. Jordan Love

Team: Green Bay Packers

Finally taking over the reins as the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback, Jordan Love shined as the starter helping the Packers reach the playoffs.

The former Utah State Aggies starting quarterback finished the season ranked among the Top 10 passers in a handful of statistics including second in passing touchdowns (32), seventh in passing yards (4,159) and ninth in QBR (62.1).

In addition to his regular season success, Love also led the Packers to the NFL playoffs picking up a win against the Dallas Cowboys during Wild Card weekend before falling late to the San Francisco 49ers within the divisional round of the playoffs. Love has a strong arm and accuracy to take his game to the next level during the upcoming season.

8. C.J. Stroud

Team: Houston Texans

One quarterback experts believe will take a huge step forward in his second season is the Houston Texans star and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud.

Stroud posted strong rookie numbers across the board while also finishing the season ranked eighth in passing yards (4,108), 13th in touchdown passes (23), and sixth in overall rating (100.8).

Fast forward to his second season and the Texans added former All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a receiving corps that features Nico Collins, Robert Woods, Tank Dell as well as Dalton Schultz at tight end.

With an improved offensive roster that also includes running back Joe Mixon, Stroud will be difficult to slow down this season while he looks to lead the Texans back to the NFL playoffs.

7. Brock Purdy

Team: San Francisco 49ers

From the last pick of the 2022 NFL draft, Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy has played his way into the list of the best quarterbacks in the league while capitalizing on the talent surrounding him.

After a strong rookie season over just nine games played, Purdy came in ready to play in his sophomore season improving his completion percentage mark to 69.4 to go along with his first 4,000-yard passing season (4,280) to go along with 31 touchdown passes.

While the 49ers quarterback has work to do improving his turnovers, it is safe to say the 49ers won the 2022 NFL Draft. Purdy has led the 49ers to the NFC championship game as a rookie before leaving with an injury and the Super Bowl last season.

6. Jalen Hurts

Team: Philadelphia Eagles

Dual threat quarterbacks continue to be the go-to for NFL teams with Jalen Hurts ranking among the best dual threats in the league while also being a playmaker at the position.

As the heated debate continues to roam over running quarterbacks it is hard to look past their ability to put points on the board and make plays with Jalen Hurts being one of the best.

The fifth-year quarterback has been brilliant over the past three seasons improving his passing yard each season since taking over the starting role while posting back-to-back seasons with at least a 65 percent completion mark.

In addition to making plays with his arm including setting a career high with 23 touchdowns last season, Hurts posted his third straight double digit rushing total while tying the record high with 15.

With a loaded receiving corps featuring A.J. Brown, the Eagles young quarterback will continue to shine as he looks to lead the Eagles on another postseason run.

5. Justin Herbert

Team: Los Angeles Chargers

Rounding out the Top 5 quarterbacks on the Top 10 NFL Quarterback 2024 Rankings is the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.

While Herbert is coming off a down season after missing the end of the season with a finger injury that required surgery, the Chargers quarterback displayed when healthy his ability to put up big numbers while being an elite passer within the league.

With Jim Harbaugh taking over as head coach, expectations are high for the Chargers starting with the play of their franchise quarterback. In three previous seasons including his rookie season, Herbert topped the 4,300 marks with at least 25 touchdown passes.

Despite losing veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen to free agency, Herbert’s ability to read defenses will allow him to find a new go-to receiver this season.

4. Dak Prescott

Team: Dallas Cowboys

The one big knack on Dak Prescott continues to be his success and the Dallas Cowboys overall success during the NFL Playoffs. While this is a major concern it is hard to put the blame all on his shoulder as the team has struggled as a whole come January football.

Nonetheless Prescott continues to rank among the NFL’s top overall passers including finishing third in the NFL with 4,516 passing yards during the regular season.

In three healthy seasons over the past five seasons, Prescott has thrown for at least 4,000 yards in each season to go along with at least 30 touchdown passes ranking him among the leaders in the NFL.

In addition, Prescott is coming off his best completion percentage mark of his career after posting a 69.5 mark over 590 passing attempts.

3. Josh Allen

Team: Buffalo Bills

Another dual threat style quarterback that continues to use his ability to make plays with both his arm and legs is the Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

While Allen will look for a new number one receiver entering the 2024 NFL schedule with the departure of Stefon Diggs, the seven-year veteran will continue to adapt while finding a way to make a play.

Since arriving in the NFL as a rookie Allen has posted at least 500 rushing yards and six touchdowns in five of the six seasons.

Meanwhile the Bills quarterback has passed for at least 4,200 yards in each of the previous five seasons with at least 29 touchdowns. Despite failing to find a way to get to the Super Bowl, it is hard not to like what Allen brings to the field at quarterback.

2. Lamar Jackson

Team: Baltimore Ravens

When you look around the NFL it is hard to look past another quarterback that has physical tools to make plays with both his arm and feet making it nearly impossible for opposing defensive quarterbacks to game for than Lamar Jackson.

The Baltimore Ravens franchise quarterback is entering the 2024 NFL season coming off his second NFL MVP Award while also leading the team to an NFL best 13-4 record.

Jackson is coming off a career high 67.2 completion percentage mark while throwing for a career high 3,678 yards while also topping the 700 yard rushing mark for the fifth straight season.

The dynamic dual threat option will continue to make Jackson a big play threat each week during the upcoming season.

1. Patrick Mahomes

Team: Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes lands at number one as the best quarterback in the league looks to lead the Chiefs to a third straight Super Bowl championship this season.

Despite lacking a true number one wide receiver last season, Mahomes continued his dominance all season long while relying on a handful of receivers as well as All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce.

Mahomes finished the season with his sixth straight 4,000-yard passing season while also throwing for at least 26 touchdowns in each season.

As the 2024 season approaches, the Chiefs have added multiple weapons to the receiving corps which has the upside of producing his third NFL MVP Award.
