Ranking the Top 10 WNBA Free Agents of 2024 as Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty leads the way this off season

The 2024 WNBA off-season has arrived as the teams around the WNBA look to reshape their rosters for the upcoming 2024 WNBA Season. As free agency opened up on the 1st of February, the headlines have been flowing with key moves as well as WNBA free agency rumors as teams look to secure the best WNBA free agents available on the market. One of those free agents is Breanna Stewart who elected to sign a one year deal with the New York Liberty before last season while delivering the team to the best record within the Eastern Conference and a trip to the WNBA Finals.
Stewart capped off her season with the Liberty finishing 2nd in the NBA in scoring while averaging 23.0 points per game while also ranking 3rd in rebounds posting 9.3 per game. The Liberty forward’s strong play on the floor landed her the second WNBA MVP Award of her career. As Stewart headlines the list of WNBA Free Agents, she is also joined by an extensive list of talented women’s basketball players looking for new contracts including her Liberty teammate Jonquel Jones, Nneka Ogwumike, Britney Griner, and Skylar Diggins-Smith. While the free agency period has been red a few of the top free agents remained unsigned entering the second full week of February.

Just missing the Top 10 WNBA Free Agents 2024 list is the former Washington Mystics guard Natasha Cloud.
Cloud who was drafted by the Mystics during the 2015 WNBA Draft has been solid since arriving leading the WNBA in assists in 2022 while also playing a key role during the teams run to the WNBA Championship during the 2019 WNBA Season.
Cloud entered the off-season as one of the top WNBA free agent guards on the market while ranking among the best point guards within the league before signing with the Phoenix Mercury on a two year deal as free agency opened within the WNBA.
Courtney Williams
Previous Team: Minnesota Lynx
Position: Guard
WNBA Free Agency Tracker: Chicago Sky (2 Year Deal)
Another talented guard who hit the WNBA free agency ranked among the best players available was the former Chicago Sky guard Courtney Williams.
Williams, who was coming off a strong season averaging 10.4 points per game to go along with six rebounds and 6.3 assists per game, was one of the top overall ball handling guards within the free agent class.

10. Candace Parker
Previous Team: Las Vegas Aces
Position: Forward
WNBA Free Agency Tracker: Las Vegas Aces (1 Year Deal)
Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 WNBA Free Agents Rankings list is the Las Vegas Aces All-Star Candace Parker. Parker, who was set to hit free agency, elected to return to the defending WNBA Champions while shooting for a potential three-peat.
After joining the Aces for 18 games last season in her only season with the team, Parker was a strong role player on the team averaging 23.6 minutes per game with nine points per game before her season ended due to a foot injury forcing her to have surgery.
The former Los Angeles Sparks and Chicago Sky forward will look to bounce back while helping the Aces to a three-peat during the 2024 WNBA Season.
9. Alanna Smith
Previous Team: Minnesota Lynx

One of the promising young stars of the WNBA Alanna Smith who finally had a chance to showcase her abilities as a top tier forward within the league last season has landed a two year deal to join the Minnesota Lynx.
After bouncing around and playing in limited games to start her career, Smith put together her first powerful performance of her career last season in her only season with the Chicago Sky.
The Sky forward averaged 9.2 points per game over 26.5 minutes per game while also adding 6.6 rebounds. On the opposite end of the floor Smith averaged 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocked shots per game. As Smith looks to continue on that success the Lynx have found a way to continue to build a winning team.
8. DeWanna Bonner

Entering the start of free agency DeWanna Bonner was one of the hottest names on the free agent market with multiple teams showing interest including the Phoenix Mercury and the Seattle Storm.
However, Bonner elected to return to the Sun roster who she had spent the previous four seasons with after starting her career with the Mercury.
Bonner capped off an All-Star performance last season averaging 17.4 points per game to go along with 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. The 17 points per game marked the fifth time of Bonner’s 14 year WNBA career averaged at least 17 points per game.
7. Satou Sabally

As you look around at the top 2024 WNBA free agents, Satou Sabally landed among the best on the market before re-signing with the Dallas Wing on a one year deal. Sabally, who landed among the best free agents next off-season will look to continue her strong success of the 2023 WNBA Season.
After appearing in just 34 games over her first three seasons, the former Oregon Ducks star started 38 games last season while averaging 18.6 points per game to go along with 8.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.
6. Brionna Jones

The longtime Connecticut Sun forward entered the off-season as one of the top potential WNBA Free agents before signing a one year deal to remain with the team.
Coming off a shortened 2023 WNBA Season after rupturing her Achilles, Jones will look to return to her previous form including averaging a career high 8.2 rebounds before going down with the injury during the season.
In just 13 games last season, Jones was also averaging a career high 15.9 points per game and assists with 2.4 per game. The Sun forward will look to rebound while playing herself atop the list of top WNBA agents during the 2025 WNBA off-season.
5. Brittney Griner

Position: Center

Rounding out the Top 5 WNBA Free Agents landing on the Top 10 WNBA Free Agents Rankings list is Brittney Griner.
While Griner remains one of the top unsigned free agents on the market, expectations are high the former Baylor Bears star is set to return to the Phoenix Mercury to finish out her WNBA career.
However, at this time no deal has been set leaving Griner as a premier option for each WNBA team. After her detainment in Russia, Griner bounced back in her return to the WNBA last season averaging 17.5 points per game to go along with 6.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
In addition, Griner was strong on the defensive end of the floor averaging 1.6 blocked shots per game.
4. Skylar Diggins-Smith

After taking off the entire 2023 WNBA Season after having a baby, Skylar Diggins-Smith is set to return to the WNBA after signing a two year deal with the Seattle Storm.
Entering the WNBA free agency period, Diggins-Smith was a hot commodity with multiple teams showing interest in bringing in the WNBA veteran to solidify their roster. Over her career, the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star has averaged 16.7 points per game to go along with three rebounds (2.9) and five assists per game.
During the 2022 WNBA Season, Diggins Smith posted an extraordinarily strong campaign averaging 19.7 points per game to go along with four rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
3. Nneka Ogwumike

The Seattle Storm are looking to retool their roster a year after losing multiple key weapons to free agency and retirement. One of those key moves was landing top tier free agent Nneka Ogwumike who ranked among the best WNBA free agents entering the WNBA off-season.
Ogwumike who has spent her first 11 WNBA Seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks posted a strong season at the age of 36 averaging 19.1 points per game to go along with 8.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals.
Ogwumike will also join fellow top WNBA free agents Skylar Diggins-Smith in Seattle along with MVP candidate Jewell Lloyd this season.
2. Jonquel Jones

After reaching the WNBA Finals last season the New York Liberty had their hands full this off-season while featuring multiple top tier free agents including both Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart.
While Stewart returns on a core designation, reports indicate Jones is set to return to the Liberty on a two year deal while helping to keep the core of the franchise together to make a run at the WNBA Championship during the 2024 WNBA Season.
Jones is coming off a season in which she averaged 11.3 points per game to go along with 8.4 rebounds per game and 1.8 assists per game.

In at number one among the best WNBA free agents during the 2024 WNBA offseason is the former Seattle Storm and New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart.
Stewart was set to be the premier free agent this off-season however, the Liberty re-signed Stewart on a one year supermax deal after placing the core designation on him before free agency.
The former Liberty star capped off a strong season with the Liberty while averaging a career high 23 points per game to go along with 9.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.6 blocked shots. Her strong play on the floor guided the Liberty to the WNBA Finals as well as earning Stewart her second league MVP Award.
