Who Are The Best WNBA Players Right Now?

The excitement and admiration for the WNBA continues to grow from the WNBA season to the next WNBA season. The 2024 campaign delivered all-time records for the league as the next wave of superstars arrived to help deliver additional hype to go along with a long list of stellar stars surrounding the league. As the hype for the league grows top stars such as A’ja Wilson who lands atop the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings list continues to dominate the league night in and night out.

Here is a look at the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings:

Honorable Mention

Sabrina Ionescu

Team: New York Liberty

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: 10

Just missing the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings list is the New York Liberty’s guard Sabrina Ionescu. Ionescu ranks among the best shooters in the WNBA, and it was on full display during the WNBA Finals.

The former Oregon Ducks guard posted her first season averaging at least 18 points per game (18.2) while playing at least 30 games during the regular season.

Dearica Hamby

Team: Los Angeles Sparks

Position: Forward
Previous Ranking: 6

Like Sabrina Ionescu, Dearica Hamby of the Los Angeles Sparks came up just short of landing among the 10 best women’s basketball players within the WNBA. Hamby, who just capped off her second season with the Sparks turned in her best season of her career setting career highs in scoring (17.3), rebounds (9.2), and assists per game (3.5).

Despite not much to cheer about for most of the season, the Sparks forward turned in a strong season while delivering veteran leadership to a team that lacked all around talent. In addition to those numbers the Sparks forward posted 1.7 steals per game while providing a ton of defensive presence on the opposite end of the hardwood.

10. Britney Griner

Team: Phoenix Mercury

Position: Center
Previous Ranking: Unranked

Sliding in at number 10 on the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings is the long-time center of the Phoenix Mercury Britney Griner. Griner, who is not a young dynamic down low player she once was but still ranks among the best defensive players down low within the WNBA and a threat on both ends of the floor.

The 34-year-old veteran center finished off the 2024 WNBA season averaging 17.8 points per game to go along with 6.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Meanwhile the former Baylor Bears center capped off another strong season on the defensive side of the floor posting 1.5 blocked shots per game.

9. Kelsey Mitchell

Team: Indiana Fever

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: Unranked

As all eyes were on the Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark, another Fever put together her best season within the WNBA since entering the league before the start of the 2018 WNBA Season. That player was Kelsey Mitchel who like Clark was a highly regarded talent after being drafted number two overall back during the 2018 WNBA Season.

Mitchell finished the season setting a career high in scoring averaging 19.2 points while sitting tied with Clark for seventh among all scorers in the WNBA. To go along with those numbers Mitchell also added 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

8. Jewell Loyd

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: 5

After watching the Seattle Storm retool heading into the 2024 WNBA Season, Jewell Loyd continued to produce at a high level while ranking among the best players within the league. The 31-year-old veteran and former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star finished the season shooting 36 percent from the floor while averaging 19.7 points per game.

After setting a career high with 24.7 points per game last season, Loyd stepped back while helping the team compete for a chance for the WNBA Championship all season while playing an unselfish style of basketball for most of the season. To go along with the scoring, Loyd averaged 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game for the Storm

7. Kahleah Copper

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: 7

Coming off a move from the Chicago Sky to the Phoenix Mercury, Kahleah Copper did not disappoint on a team loaded with aging veterans. Nonetheless, Copper who had spent the previous seven seasons with the Sky turned in her best season of her WNBA career posting career highs in minutes played (32.4), points scored (21.1) and assists per game (2.3).

Overall, the 30-year-old posted a career season while turning a new chapter in her WNBA career while delivering the Mercury a scorer to help compete within a league of talented stars. In addition, Copper finished the season ranked third among all WNBA players in scoring while posting her new career high of 21.1 points per game.

6. Arike Ogunbowale

The 2024 WNBA season did not play out the way the Dallas Wings had hoped entering the season, however none of those struggles were due to the play from Arike Ogunbowale. The 27-year-old guard from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish did a little bit of everything including finishing second among all WNBA scorers while averaging 22.2 points per game while shooting 38.3 percent from the floor.

The 22.2 points per game marked the third time over her first six WNBA seasons, crossing the 20-point mark average during the regular season. In addition to her offensive success the former Fighting Irish star finished the 2024 WNBA season leading all players while averaging a career high 2.1 steals per game on the defensive end of the floor.

5. Alyssa Thomas

Team: Connecticut Sun

Position: Forward
Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings list is the long time Connecticut Sun Alyssa Thomas who is capping off her 11th WNBA season all with the Sun. The former Maryland Terps women’s basketball star does it all on both ends of the floor.

Thomas finished the season ranked in the Top 10 in rebounds (8.4), assists (7.9), and steals (1.6) while also averaging 10.6 points per game. The 10.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.9 assists marked the third straight season the veteran has averaged at least 10 points, eight rebounds, and six assists per game.

4. Caitlin Clark

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: Unranked

Once in a generation type talent only comes around so often and Caitlin Clark is one of those players who could end her career delivering up to those standards. The former Iowa Hawkeyes star who was selected first overall did not disappoint during her first WNBA season while many expected her to struggle.

Overall, Clark had her ups and down during her rookie WNBA season but ultimately finished the season ranked fifth in the WNBA in scoring while averaging 19.2 points per game. In addition, the Indiana Fever rookie led all WNBA players while averaging 8.4 assists per game while also adding 14 double doubles with one of those going for her first triple double of her career.

To add to that success Clark completely brought in a new fan base, increased fan attendance and more importantly brought a new fan base to the league to help the league to continue growing.

3. Napheesa Collier

Position: Forward
Previous Ranking: 2

After a strong 2023 WNBA Season, Napheesa Collier didn’t take a step back during the 2024 WNBA schedule posting her second straight season averaging at least 20.4 points per game while helping to lead the Minnesota Lynx to the NBA Finals.

Despite coming up just short, it is hard not to be excited about the Lynx moving forward along with the play of Collier who will be looking to help the team make a deep run at a WNBA Championship next season.

To go along with the 20.4 points per game, the former UConn Huskies women’s basketball star also averaged 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.4 blocked shots per game. The talented two-way star ranks among the leaders on both ends of the WNBA hardwood.

2. Breanna Stewart

Position: Forward

It is hard to not like the style of game Breanna Stewart brings to the WNBA hardwood night in and night out. Stewart who is in her second season with the New York Liberty elected to return to the Liberty during free agency ultimately a move that paid off for both her and the Liberty with the team winning their first WNBA Championship.

Despite the former WNBA MVP numbers taking a small decline this season, the eight-year veteran still ranked among the leaders in scoring (20.4) and rebounding (8.5) while averaging 32.7 minutes per game. The 20.4 points per game marked the fourth consecutive season averaging at least 20 points per game and the fifth time overall.

In at number one on the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings list is the 2024 WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces. Wilson continues to build a stored WNBA resume that includes not only her third WNBA MVP Award but also her fourth All-WNBA First Team selection, third WNBA All-Defensive First Team and sixth WNBA All-Star selection.

The 28-year-old former South Carolina Gamecock who just finished her seventh season within the WNBA finished off the year leading the league in scoring (26.9), second in rebounds per game (11.9), and first in blocked shots (2.6). In addition, Wilson along with rookie Angel Reese were the only two WNBA players to average a double double during the 2024 WNBA Season.
