After capping off a strong regular WNBA season and landing their first WNBA Championship the Liberty find themselves atop the Top 10 WNBA Teams 2024 Rankings list.
It is hard to look at another team around the WNBA and slide them in at the top spot after the Liberty put together. The same Liberty team that finished the season atop the WNBA standings with a 32-8 record during the regular season before posting an 8-3 record during the playoffs.
As the Liberty stand atop the best teams in the WNBA, teams like the Las Vegas Aces, Minnesota Lynx, Connecticut Sun and the Seattle Storm are just on their heels. Meanwhile, up and coming teams such as the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky led by talented rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have delivered the next wave of talented teams to compete in the years to come.
Here is a look at the Top 10 WNBA Teams 2024 Rankings:
Honorable Mention
Dallas Wings
WNBA Record: 9-31
Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention
Falling outside of the Top 10 WNBA Teams 2024 Rankings list is the Dallas Wings who were just one of two teams within the WNBA that failed to reach double figure wins.
The Wings were as talented as any team in the WNBA offensively while averaging the fourth most points per game (84.2) however the lack of defense led the team allowing the most points per game in the WNBA at 92.1 points per game allowed.
These types of struggles offset the team’s talented scoring threat that featured Arike Ogunbowale who averaged 22.2 points per game while Natasha Howard added 17.6 points per game and Teaira McCowan added 11.7 points per game. Ultimately the defensive struggles dropped the Wings to the bottom of the WNBA rankings.
Los Angeles Sparks
WNBA Record: 8-32
Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention
Joining the Dallas Wings as the only two teams in the WNBA failing to post double digit win totals is the Los Angeles Sparks. Like many of the other teams that struggled during the 2024 WNBA Season, the Sparks are in the midst of a rebuild while featuring a roster that includes just three players that are 30 or older.
Despite the eight wins the team showed progress earlier including the play of young stars including Cameron Brink before going down with an injury as well as Rickea Jackson who finished the season averaging 13.4 points per game on a team that only featured two players to average double figures.
Ultimately the lack of scoring threats and the inexperienced roster proved to be too much for the Sparks who allowed 85.6 points per game to averaging just 78.4 points per game.
Top 10 WNBA Teams 2024 Rankings
10. Chicago Sky
WNBA Record: 13-27
Previous Ranking: 8
Sliding in at number 10 on the Top 10 WNBA Teams 2024 Rankings list is the Chicago Sky who entered the season as one of the teams looking to rebuild and retool for the future.
That was exactly the case as the Sky managed two talented stars within the WNBA Draft in Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. Ultimately the youth movement didn’t kick start the success as fast as many fans would have liked but ultimately the future looks promising in Chicago.
Overall, the Sky finished the season winning 13 of 40 games and fell short of the WNBA Playoffs after losing five straight and eight of their last 10 games to finish the WNBA regular season. Despite the down season the Sky finished the season tied for the most rebounds per game (36.6).
9. Washington Mystics
WNBA Record: 14-26
Previous Ranking: 9
After a decision by Elena Delle Donne to walk away from the Washington Mystics prior to the start of the 2024 WNBA Season, the Mystics were left scrambling to fill a void held by one of the best players in the league.
While the lack of leadership and star power impacted the team, the team came together down the stretch winning six of their last 10 games while just missing the final playoff position.
Overall, the Mystics featured just one player to average double figures while also appearing in 20 or more games ultimately playing a key role in the team’s success. On the opposite end of the floor the lack of experience and veteran leadership showed as the tea allowed 82.3 points per game.
8. Atlanta Dream
WNBA Record: 15-25
Previous Ranking: 10
The last of the eight WNBA Playoff teams to reach the postseason, the Atlanta Dream had their ups and downs for most of the 2024 WNBA Season. Much of those struggles came on the offensive end of the floor as the team averaged a league low 77 points per game while the team ranked fifth in the WNBA allowing just 79.8 points per game.
Despite their struggles the Dream finished off the season winning three straight games to secure the eighth seed within the WNBA Playoffs.
Ultimately injuries played a role in the overall success of the Dream that included multiple players missing at least 10 games including leading scorer Rhyne Howard as well as Jordin Canada and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus.
7. Phoenix Mercury
WNBA Record: 19-21
Previous Ranking: 6
One of the older roster teams in the WNBA, the Phoenix Mercury led by talented long time stars Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner the Mercury found a way to hold on to the seventh seed of the WNBA Playoffs after finishing with a 19-21 overall record.
Along with the long-time veterans, the addition of Kahleah Copper and Natasha Cloud proved to pay off as both added a scoring presence to the aging roster as well as athletic all-around games to pick up the pace of play on both ends of the floor.
The Mercury would go on to average 81.5 points per game that ranked among the leaders within the WNBA however the aging roster struggled at times on the defensive end of the floor while allowing 84.8 points per game and a league high 12.8 points off second chance opportunities.
6. Indiana Fever
WNBA Record: 20-20
Previous Ranking: 7
The future looks promising for the Indiana Fever who has seen their young roster that includes back-to-back first round picks Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark blossom into what looks to be future stars of the WNBA.
Overall, the hype of Clark brought new attendance records and viewership records to the WNBA while her ability to shoot and score while running the team’s offense showed up night to night.
Despite failing to get out of the first round of the 2024 WNBA Playoffs, the excitement and future success is just beginning for the very young Fever team.
In the year the Fever finished leading the WNBA in shooting posting a 45.4 field goal percentage mark while also finishing third in the WNBA in scoring (85) and fourth in rebounds (35.1).
5. Seattle Storm
WNBA Record: 25-15

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 WNBA Teams 2024 Rankings list is the Seattle Storm who entered the off-season after the 2023 WNBA Season looking to bounce back among the best teams within the WNBA.
These moves included adding talented forward Nneka Ogwumike and guard Skylar Diggins-Smith to a roster that featured Jewell Loyd. Ogwumike and Diggins-Smith added 38.1 points per game to go along with 10.2 rebounds, 8.7 assists, and 3.6 steals per game.
The addition of those two veterans along with other moves and returning WNBA stars, the Storm’s offensive attack jumped from just 78.8 points per game in 2023 to the fifth most points per game in the WNBA with 83.2 per game.

When it comes to all around strong teams the Connecticut Sun are that team after finishing the season winning 28 of their 40 regular season games while landing yet again another WNBA Playoff position. Like many of the top teams around the WNBA, the Sun used a strong defense all season long to post a +6.5 points differential while allowing an WNBA low 73.6 points per game.
After a strong regular season, the Sun came up just short of reaching the WNBA Finals after falling to the Minnesota Lynx in Game 5. Possibly the deepest roster in the WNBA the Sun featured five players who averaged at least 10 points per game with at least 39 games played and a sixth player who also averaged 14.4 points over just 16 games.

Previous Ranking: 3
A bounce here or there and the 2024 Minnesota Lynx was in position to take home the 2024 WNBA Championship ultimately coming up short in five games against the New York Liberty.
The Lynx are a loaded roster led by talented forward Napheesa Collier who led the team in scoring (20.4), rebounding (9.7), and steals (1.9). The talent doesn’t stop their as Lynch also included three additional double-digit scorers and a fourth player averaging just 9.6 points per game.
While the Lynx were strong on the offensive end of the floor, the team’s strong defensive presence was even stronger with the team allowing just 75.6 points per game. The strong play on both ends of the floor had the Lynx win eight straight games to end the regular season.
2. Las Vegas Aces
WNBA Record: 27-13
Previous Ranking: 4
The bid to three-peat came to an end as the Las Vegas Aces posted another strong regular season before coming up short, falling to the New York Liberty in the best of five WNBA Semifinals.
Despite failing to three-peat it is hard not to like the Aces as one of the best teams in the league based on the top tier roster filling out their rotation. That includes the 2024 WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson who headlines one of the deepest rosters within the NBA.
Regardless of dropping 13 games during the regular season the Aces were red hot down the stretch winning nine of their last 10 games to finish with the fourth best record in the WNBA. Led by Wilson the Aces finished the season leading the WNBA in scoring while averaging 86.4 points per game while shooting 44.9 percent from the floor.
